"Gouverneur. Eugenie Gardner. Eugenie J. Gardner, age 85, of Gouverneur, passed away on May 4, 2012 at the United Helpers River Ledge Nursing Home in Ogdensburg.
"Calling hours will be on Monday, May 7, 2012 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at French Funeral Home, Gouverneur with her funeral service following at 3:00 p.m. with Father Stephen Rocker of St. James Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Old St. James Cemetery.
"Eugenie was born on November 10, 1926 in Oneida, NY to the late Robert C. and Hazel (Miller) Joudry. She graduated from Gouverneur High School and went on to Potsdam State where she received a four year degree from Crane School of Music graduating in 1948. She married George K. Gardner on July 1, 1949 at the Gouverneur Episcopal Church with her father with [sic] Robert C. Joudry officiating. The marriage ended in divorce.
"Eugenie was a music teacher at Ft. Covington School for three years and then became a case worker for St. Lawrence County for 23 years retiring in November of 1988. She was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, a former member of the Democratic Committee, the American Red Cross, Travelers Club, Community Players Club, St. James Choir and organist and the Alter Rosary Society. She enjoyed swimming, walking, reading, doing cross word puzzles and listening to classical music.
"She is survived by three sons and their wives, George R. and Dana Gardner of Spanaway, WA, Douglas J. and Judy Gardner of Chili, NY and Daniel L. and Jane Gardner of Ft. Myers, FL; four daughters and their husbands, Barbara J. and George Pierce of Richville, Constance I. and Thomas Matchette of Columbia, SC, Giselle M. Thompson of Theresa and Cathleen L. and Steven Keyes of Gouverneur; a brother, Kermit Joudry of Athens, TN; three sisters, Rita Boggess of Athens, TN, Janet Sabo of Hudson Falls, NY and Kathleen Williams of Glens Falls, NY; 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
"Donations may be made in Eugenie's memory to the American Red Cross of Northern New York, P.O. Box 627, Potsdam NY 13676."
