    Alexander Ferguson, deceased, who was one of the successful and highly respected farmers of Fillmore county, was born in North Sherbrooke, Canada, August 19, 1837, son of Duncan and Barbara (Currie) Ferguson, natives of Argyleshire, Scotland, who came to Fillmore county in 1862, where the father acquired land which he broke and developed. Alexander was educated in the schools of Canada, came with his parents to this county in 1862, and purchased 200 acres of land in section seven, Arendahl township, where he engaged in general agriculture and became a substantial citizen. In connection with his general farming interests he raised many cattle, sheep and hogs, and realized from this branch a profitable income. He was a staunch Republican and was elected to serve as a member of both town and school boards, discharging the duties of all offices to which he was elected with credit to himself and with satisfaction to all. He was united in marriage to Janet Gillmore in the year 1864, and their marriage was blessed with two children: Duncan and Janet G. The latter is now Mrs. Samuel Randall. Janet (Gillmore) Ferguson died September, 1867, and on February 14, 1882, Mr. Ferguson married Maggie McKay, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter McKay, and to this marriage four children were born: Alister P., Ethel M., Florence M. and Charles McDonald. Ethel M. is now Mrs. Henry Cocker, of Winona county. Alexander Ferguson died April 9, 1886. Mrs. Ferguson then rented the farm until 1900, since which date she and her children have conducted it. The farm is known as "Faraway."

    (note - The biography does not mention the marriage on May 1,1873 to Isabella Gilmore, sister of his 1st wife, Janet. She, like her sister Janet, died of Typhoid fever on Sept.4,1873, four months after their marriage)

    John Geddes was born May 21, 1854 at the parental home, Lot 12, Concession 1, Township of NorthSherbrooke about one mile south west of Dalhousie Lake. He attended school in the area and worked on the farm, in lumber camps and mills and then went to Western Canada.

    The following is an excerpt from the book "Echoes of Rural Canada" written by his son William John Geddes about 1967:

    He grew up at Elphin with lots of work. He was in the shanty when he was fifteen years old and helped take a raft of logs down the river that spring to Ottawa.

    In 1886, John Geddes and Bob Geddes came west to Pilot Mound, Manitoba. Bob was an uncle to John. John spent part of the year butchering in Winnipeg then came out to Munros at Wood Bay. That fall he and Bob Geddes took up homesteads west of Pilot Mound. John got the S.W. 1/4 of 10-3-12 and Bob the N.E. 1/4 of 10-3-12. They built a log shanty and stayed the first part of the winter of 1886 and 1887. While there, there was a bear bothering them which Bob shot and they used the skin for a rug on the earth floor.

    They left in February 1887, Dad to get a wife and Bob a carload of lumber for two houses.

    Dad married Emily Hannah, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hannah of Elphin, Ontario, on March 16, 1887. There were ten in mother's family; 8 girls and 2 boys.

    John Geddes and wife came west that spring by way of East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Dad had two brothers, Dave and Adam, and a sister Tena who made that their home a few years later. Dad and mother spent the first two years in Crystal City, Manitoba, where Dad was butchering. In the summer of 1889 they got the two houses built with some ground ready for crops the next spring and moved out onto the homesteads that fall where they stayed until the end of 1898. In July 1898, Dad bought the N.E. 1/4 of 3-3-12 and that summer he and Bob Geddes built a log house. Bob was an extra good axeman. It was he who squared the logs and did the dovetailing on the corners. So, with the help of neighbours, they were not long in getting the house built, which is still standing. For the next twenty years it was a happy home as Dad and Mother were the best. They moved into Crystal City that fall of 1918. I rented the farm for the next three years. In the spring of 1922 I moved into Pilot Mound where we have been ever since. Jim rented Dad's farm until the fall of 1928, when it was sold to Doug McKay. Mother and Dad bought the Herb Howard house. It was a large brick house so they had lots of room when family came home. They spent another twenty years there. Dad died Septenber 5, 1938 and Mother in August 1940.

    David D. Geddes, 79, Pioneer Here, Dies - Two Weeks Illness Fatal to Early Resident

    David D. Geddes, 79 years old, pioneer of the East Grand Forks, MN vicinity, died Monday in a Grand Forks, ND hospital from pneumonia. Mr. Geddes lived at 319 North First Street, East Grand Forks.

    Born at Elphin, Ontario, October 19, 1855, Mr. Geddes came to Fisher, Minnesota in 1879 and homesteaded near Key West. He moved to East Grand Forks in 1919. He had been in good health until two weeks ago when he contracted a bad cold which turned to pneumonia.

    He was married to Ellen McDonald, who died in 1893.

    In 1903, he married Miss Catherine Beveridge.

    Survivors are his wife and their daughter, Mrs. A.S. Nelson of Northwood. By his first marriage he leaves four daughters, one son; Mrs. W.G. Miller and Mrs. P.W. Miller, both of Glendale, California; Mrs. W.J. McDonald of Wilkie, Saskatchewan; Mrs. Lillie Olsen of Grand Forks, and W.J. Geddes of East Grand Forks.

    He is also survived by three brothers and three sisters; Mrs. Agnes Ferguson, Lanark, Ontario; Mrs. Joseph Bishop of Strathcona, Alberta; Mrs. John Nevills of East Grand Forks; Dan Geddes of Elphin, Ontario; John Geddes of Crystal City, Manitoba; and Adam Geddes of Grand Forks. He also leaves 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

    Burial: Nisbet Cemetery, Huntsville Township, Polk County, Minnesota Cemetery.

    Agnes Geddes, fourth in the family of Daniel Geddes, was born at the parental home in North Sherbrooke in 1857. She attended school in the Elphin area. On January 23rd, 1880, she married Alexander Ferguson and they lived on the lot just south of the one owned by Duncan Ferguson. They had a family of five girls and one boy, who lived a few years only. Shortly after the death of her husband in November 1917, Agnes moved to a house on the outskirts of Lanark Village where she lived until her death in 1942. She is buried in Crawford's Cemetery in Dalhousie Township.

    Mrs. Alex. Ferguson - On Sunday morning, Feb. 1, there passed away in the Great War Memorial hospital, Perth, one of Lanark's older and much respected residents, Agnes Ferguson, wife of the late Alex. Ferguson, in her 85th year. Almost three weeks previous she had broken her hip through a fall in her home on the Perth road near the village and although everything possible was done to effect a recovery the shock and suffering proved too severe for her advanced age. Mrs. Ferguson had enjoyed exceptional health and vigor in spite of her years and her death came as a shock to he many friends in this community where she was well known for her loyalty and many other sterling qualities. Formerly Miss Agnes Geddes, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Geddes of North Sherbrooke. Sixty-two years ago she was married at McDonald's Corners to Alexander Ferguson, and lived on the second line of North Sherbrooke until the death of Mr. Ferguson in December 1917. Shortly after, she and her daughter, Mary Christena, took up residence on the Perth road near the village of Lanark. Left to mourn the loss of a loving mother and an exemplary wife are three daughters, Agnes Jane (Mrs. John McDougall), Kathren Jennette (Mrs. John Sergeant), both of Bathurst, and Mary Christena at home. There are three children deceased, Margaret (Mrs. Duncan Ferguson), Violet (Mrs. James Gilmour) and Dewight. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Bishop of Alberta and Tena, Mrs. Neville, of Minnesota and two brothers, Daniel Geddes of Elphin and Adam Geddes of Minnesota surviving. The funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon from the residence of George S. Young, to McDonald's Corners' church, with Rev. P. C. Lewis of Lanark and Rev. K. McCaskill of McDonald's Corners officiating. Interment took place in Crawford's cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were : M. M. Knowles, Wilfred McLaren, Robert McFarlane, Ben Willis, Chas. Deachman and Percy Ferguson.

    Dalhousie Lake, Thursday, March 8th, William B. Geddes, aged 50 years, 2 mos. & 13 days. He was born in North Sherbrooke, on December 26th, 1866, the son of the late Daniel Geddes. He went west to Minnesota and Alberta at the age of 20 and returned due to ill health about 10 years ago. In Sept. 1915, he married Mary Milliken, who survives. Five brothers & five sisters also survive; John, Pilot Mound, Manitoba; David and Adam, Minnesota; Daniel, on the homestead in North Sherbrooke; Mrs. Wm.     Obituary - The Perth Courier -Mar.23,1917-
    Geddes - The death of Mr. William B. Geddes occurred on Thursday, March 8th, at Dalhousie Lake, after an illness from anaemia. Deceased was born in North Sherbrooke in Dec. 1866. When about twenty years of age he went West, but his health failing he returned to Dalhousie about ten years ago and purchased a farm at Dalhousie Lake, where he had resided until his demise. On September 22nd, 1915, he married Mary Millikin, who survives him. He was a son of the late Daniel Geddes and was one of a family of eleven, of whom nine survive : (Barbara) Mrs. Wm. Legary, Crystal City, Man.; (Agnes) Mrs. Alex. Ferguson, North Sherbrooke; (Maggie) Mrs. James Darou, Ardoch; (Jennie) Mrs. Josephus Bishop, Edmonton; (Tena) Mrs. Robert Nisbet, Mallory, Minn; John, Pilot Mound, Man.; David and Adam, Grand Forks, N.D.; Duncan (deceased) and Daniel on the old homestead, North Sherbrooke. Services were conducted by the Rev. A. J. McMullen and remains were interred in Crawford's cemetery.

    Mrs John McDougall
    Family and friends were shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Agnes Jane McDougall on friday, November 6, 1970 at Kemptville District Hospital. Although she was in failing health for several years, her cheery, friendly manner and quiet personality, along with her faith and courage, made her a joy to be with. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

    Daughter of the late Alex Ferguson and his wife, Agnes Geddes, she was born on February 11, 1883 in the township of North Sherbrooke.

    On December 6, 1911, at Lanark, she was united in marriage to John McDougall, Prior to the purchase of their farm on the 8th line of Bathurst, they lived for a number of years at Elphin,

    Left to mourn her loss are three daughters, Florence (Mrs. Craig Greer), Maberly; Blanche (Mrs Charles Foster), Bathurst; Margaret (Mrs Russell Banville), Merrickville, and one son, Stanley, Oxford Mills. Also surviving is one sister, Katie (Mrs. John Sargeant), Bathurst; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, three sisters and one brother.

    The funeral service was conducted by Mr. Jensen of Oxford Mills from the Morrow Funeral Home, Perth, on Monday, Nov. 9, 1970. Interment was in Crawford's Cemetery, Elphin.

    The pallbearers were Kenneth Blair, James Rutherford, Harold Trueloove, Ernest Rogers, Lloyd McVeigh and William Charles.

    The beautiful floral tributes and donations to the Canadian Bible Society and The Ontario Heart Foundation showed the esteem in which Mrs McDougall was held.

    Mary Christena Ferguson
    The death of Mary Christena Ferguson occurred at the GWM Hospital, Perth, on Aug 10, from a heart seizure.

    A daughter of the late Alexander Ferguson and his wife Agnes Geddes, tena was born on the second line of North Sherbrooke. She received her education at SS No 2 and attended Elphin Presbyterian Church of which she was a member.

    After her father's deatah in 1917, she and her mother moved from the old homestead to Lanark. Her mother passed aaway in 1942. Although stricken with diabetes early in life, with the help of medical care and self denial, Miss Ferguson carried on a diligent, unassuming life until the fall of 1962 when ill health forced her to give up her home. since then she had been receiving care in several public and private nursing homes.

    Left to mourn are two sistsers, (Janie) Mrs. John McDougall, and (Katie) Mrs. John Sergeant, both of Perth RR 7, and several nieces and nephews.

    The funeral took place from Young's funeral home on Aug. 12. Pallbearers were Lloyd Knowles, John Lashley, Elwin McVeigh, and three nephews, Percy Fergusonn, Allie Sergeant, and Stanley McDougall.

    Beautiful floral tributes were silent testimony of esteem for deceased.

    We deeply regret to record the death of Duncan Dwight, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Ferguson. Deceased was about four years old, and was taken ill on Sunday afternoon, and on the same evening took convulsions, from which death relieved him on Monday morning at 10 o'clock. The parents have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood in their sore bereavement.
