Dodds - In the sudden death of Mrs. Ralph Dodds, of Glen Tay, on Thursday morning last that community and township is bereft of a whole hearted woman. Mrs. Dodds was in her usual health and on Thursday morning was going about as usual until about 10 o'clock when she fell in a faint. Members of the family went to her aid immediately  but could do nothing and she passed away a few moments later. Heart trouble won the cause.

Deceased was born in Rochester 72 years ago, daughter of James McKay. When three years of age she came to live with her uncle the late John W. Adams, on the Scotch Line, and his home was her home until her marriage with Mr. Ralph Dodds in 1851. Their marriage was a long and happy one and the bereaved and aged husband is tendered the sympathy of the community in the sudden loss he has been called upon to bear in the death of his sharer of joyts and sorrows for more than 55 years.

Eight children were born to the union: Alex., Davidson Man.; Mrs. Robert Miller, 3rd line of Bathurst; Mrs. Robert Miller, Rideau Ferry; John A., on the homestead; James (deceased), Mrs. R.M. Rudsdale, 3rd line Bathurst; Mrs. Lorenzo Miller, Crookston Minn.; Matthew, Smiths Falls.

The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon to Elmwood cemetery; service was conducted at the house and grave by Revs. D Currie and J.G. Greig. The pallbearers were relatives of the deceased. The funeral cortege was a long one and evidenced not only respect and esteem but sympathy for the family in their sudden loss.

After his (Ralph Dodds) marriage to Louise McKay, he moved to Flamboro Township, where Mrs. Miller was born, then to the Scotch Line, from there to Glen Tay, where she resided until her marriage to Robert Miller in 1882. They lived at Bathurst Con 2 Lot8 until 1909 when they moved back to Glen Tay. She moved to Perth after her husband's death.

She leaves two sons, Herbert of Glen Tay and Mervyn of Perth and four daughters, Ella, Mrs. John Armour; Louise, Mrs. Alex Armour; Mabel, Mrs. Delbert Chaplin of Glen Tay; and Jean Miller of Perth.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Louise (Dodds) Miller of Crookston, MN and one brother, Matthew of Brockville.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Lily Rudsdale of Bathurst and Mrs. Robert Miller of Rideau Ferry, three brothers, Alex of Loreburn, SK, John of Toronto and James of Hamilton.

JOHN ADAM DODDS
PERTH. OOct 16 - The death occurred in Hamilton of Mr. John Adam Dodds at the age ot 70 years. Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dodds and was born at Glen Tay, the Dodds family being one of the most prominent and highly respected families in this district.

Deceased is survived by his wife; three sons, Messrs. Ernest Dodds of Swift Current, Sask.; John R. Dodds, Warner, Alta.; and George K. of Richmond, Sask.; one daughter, Miss Jennie M. of Toronto and one sister, Mrs R. M. Rudsdale of Bathurst township.  The remains were brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Rudsdale, third concession of Bathurst. The funeral was held to Elmwood cemetery with Rev. M.C. McKinnon of St. Paul's church officiating at the services.

The pall bearers were: Messrs Alex, Ralph, Charles, Matthew adn Norman E. Dodds, all cousins of the deceased; and Mr. W. Pegg of Lombardy. Mr. Ernest Dodds of Swift Current, Sask., son of the deceased attended the funeral.

In Hamilton on Wednesday, October 21, James M. Dodds, son of Ralph Dodds, Glen Tay, aged 40 years and 6 months.

Dodds
A well known resident of Bathurst Township died in Hamilton on Wednesday morning from blood poisoning induced from an operation for appendicitis, in the stead of Mr. James M. Dodds. The remains arrived in town this (Thursday) morning and were taken to his father's residence at Glen Tay. The funeral will take place on Friday afternoon at two o'clock to Elmwood Cemetery.

Deceased was the son of Mr. Ralph Dodds, Glen Tay, and was 40 years and six months old. He had lived in Glen Tay all his life until a year ago when he went to Brockville and engaged with the J.W. Mann co. When this firm sold to the Deering Co. deceased went to Hamilton.

His brother Matthew, of Smith's Falls, was with him when he died. The other two brothers are John A., of town, and Alex. of St. Thomas, ND. He was a Mason and the local lodge will attend the funeral.

Mrs. John E. Armour

In failing health for the past year, Helen Mason Armour, wife of the late John E. Armour, passed away quietly on Monday, September 11th, 1961.

Mrs Armour was in her 78th year and the elder surviving daughter of the late Robert Miller and Eliza Dodds. She was born on the Third Line of Bathurst and moved with her parents to Glen Tay. On June 30th, 1914, she was married to John E. Armour, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ephriam Armour. She left toe farm on the 6th line of Bathurst and had resided in Perth until the time of her death.

She was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Church and also the Women's Missionary Society.

She is survived by an only son, Dr. Gordon Armour, of Calgary, Alta; two sisters, Mabel (Mrs. Delbert Chaplin), Glen Tay, and Jean Miller of Perth, one brother, Mervyn, of Perth. Louise (Mrs. Allex Armour) and Herbert predeceased her.

The Rev. R.B. Vanstone conducted the funeral service in Blair's Funeral Chapel on Wednesdday, September 13th. Pallbearers were Vernon Wood, Norman Poole, Ross Miller, Edward Pennett, Clyde Bell and Clarke Devlin.

The many floral tributes and memorials were an indiation of the high esteem in which Mrs. Armour was held by her friends.

Mrs Delbert Chaplin

Following a lengthy illness, Mabel Winnifred Chaplin passed away at the Four Winds Private Hospital, Perth, on August 29, 1977 in her 89th year.

She was born on the third line of Bathurst on June 26th, 1889, daughter of the late Robert Miller and Eliza Dodds. Her education was obtained in area schools and she graduated as a teacher from Perth Model School in 1907. After teaching school for a few years she was married on Nov. 24th, 1915 to Delbert Chaplin of Glen Tay, who predeceased her in December, 1967.

She is survived by three sons and three daughters, Helen (Mrs. Ted O'Gorman), John, Cameron and Donald, all of Perth; Betty (Mrs. Howard McGregor) Balderson, and Winnifred (Mrs. Al Chaffee) of Oakville, and one sister, Miss Jean Miller of Perth. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. A son, Gordon, predeceased her in 1949.

The funeral service was held on Sept. 1, 1977 from Blair & Son Funeral Chapel, conduted by Rev. George Richardson of St. Paul's United Church, of which she was a member.

The pallbearers were six grandsons, Gary Chaplin, Gordon Chaplin, James McGregor and Thomas Chaffee. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Mervyn Ferrier

The sudden passing of Louise Ferrier on December 14 at her home on the Scotch Line, saddened her family and friends. Although she had not enjoyed good health for the past year, she continued to carry on her work in her usual cheerful manner.

Born on the Third Line of Bathurst near Glen Tay, Louise was the eldest daughter of the late R. M. Rudsdale and Lillian Dodds. She received her education at Glen Tay School, Perth Collegiate and Perth Business College. She also studied music and was an accomplished pianist and singer.

Married to Mervyn Ferrier in 1923, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on August 25 this year at their farm where they lived their entire married life.

Left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and mother are her husband and two sons and three daughters, Arthur, Scotch Line; Keith, Edmonto; Dorothea (Mrs. Jack Tysidck), Wemyss; Jean, at home, and Helen (Mrs. Leonard Stead) of Welland. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret (Mrs Vernon Wood) and one brother, Bill Rudsdale.

Six grandchildren, Cheryl and Terry Stead, Dianne and Jimmy Tysick, and Judy and Randy Ferrier will miss her loving generosity. By her cheerful manner, she made her home a welcome place to all.

A Member of St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, she attended services regularly. In 1957 she was made an honourary Life Member of the Women's Missionary Society of the Presbyterian Church in Canad for which she had been a faithful worker for many years.

A lover of flowers, her home always displayed an array of blooming plants. She wa a member of the Ladies Division of the Perth Fair Board until the past year, an association she enjoyed very much.

Her largely attended funeral was held from Blair and Son Funeral Chapel where her Minister, Rev. Gillanders, gave a comforting message. Her favourite hymn, "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" was sung during the service.

Pallbearers wer William Allan, George Consitt, Orville Ferrier, Ernest Miller, William Moodie and Ray Poole. Burial took place in Scotch Line Cemetery.

The many beautiful flowers and donations to the Bible Society and Heart Fund in her memory, and expression of sympathy testified to the love and esteem in which she was held by her friends.

A former resident of this districty, William J. Rudsdale, died in hospital at Woodstock on Nov. 20, 1977
Mr. Rudsdale was born at Glen Tay in 1903, a son of the late Richard Rudsdale and his wife, Lillian Dodds. He is survived by his wife, Mary, five daughters, several grandchildren and his sister, Margaret (Mrs. Vernon Wood) of Perth. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mildred, and his sister, Louise (Mrs. Mervyn Ferrier).
The funeral was held from the Sydenham Funeral Home on Nov. 23 with burial at Verona where he had lived for some years.

Obituary
Miller - On Friday morning, January 10th, Miss Cora Louise Miller answered the great summons at Cookston, Minnesota, and passed to be with God. Miss Miller was born in Hammond Township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo Miller and spent her life in and around Cookston. She was engaged in clerical work at the Sunnyrest Sanitorium for some time and later did similar work for about four years at the Northwestern Clinic. In both positions she won the nearts of co-workerrs and patients alike by her devotion to duty and her genial, kindly disposition. To know her was to love her.

Miss Miller was a loyal member of the first Presbyterian church for many years and for some time past served in the choir. In the home she was a loving daughter and sister and will be greatly missed by her widowed mother and brothers Arthur and Dodds.

She made friends with old and young alike and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. During her long illness her patience and thoughtfulness for others made her presence a very benediction.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church by Dr. F.J. Hibbard. Members of the choir assisted by singing "Abide with Me" and Miss Lark Donald sang "Oh rest in the Lord" with beautiful feeling and interpretation. The pallbearers were two cousins, Herbert and allen Miller, Harry Miller, Dale Miller, John Dewar and Jay Wilder. The many beautiful floral tributes formed a bower of flowers about the casket and pulpit. Among those present from out of town were Miss Celia Mitchell of Winnipeg and Herbert Miller of Colerain, Minnesota.
