    Notes:

    Mr. Moorhouse is of Irish parentage, born on board a boat on the River St. Lawrence, July 14th 1819; brought up in Elizabethtown; carried on the business of milling in its several branches; and has followed that business, either in whole or in paart - either by himself, or in partnership  with others - at Farmersville, at Smith's Falls, and finally at Adamsville, or Glen Tay, where he ultimately became proprietor of the mills once owned by the Adams familly. His residence, however, has been now for some years in the town of Perth, wher he has property and holds several municipal offices.

    The plaintiff in this action formerly carried on a woollen business at Glen Tay, and on the 4th April last entered into a contract with the defendant for the sale to him of certain machinery in the said mill for the sum of $5,500; the machinery to be delivered by the plaintiff at the Perth station. The plaintiff undertook the packing of the machinery and the defendant sent a man to oversee such packing. In the course of removal from the mill to the station of the machinery one of the cylinders fell from the waggon to the ground and was badly damaged. Teh defendant on the 5th of may paid the plaintiff $4400 on account of the purchase, retaining $1100 until the cylinder was repaired by plaintiff. When the machinery reached St. John, the place of business of defendant, he complained that it had been damaged in removal and claimed forom the plaintiff a sum somewhat in excess of the amount retained by him as compensation for such damages. The action was accordingly  brought by the plaintiff to recover $1100 balance of the purchase money less $23.75 amount apid by defendant for certain repairs of the cylinder. The defendant counter claimed for damages caused to the machinery by improper packing and for loss of profit in his business through delay in repairing cylinder.
    Judgment was given for plaintiff for amount claimed, with costs of suit, loss $50 allowed the defendant on his counterclaim, with $25.00 for costs.

    Mr. Henry Moorhouse
    Another of the old and highly esteemed residents of the town, in the person of mr. Henry Moorhouse, has been called away this week by death, at the advanced age of eighty-two years. For years, Mr. Moorhouse had been troubled with asthma, and beign taken with the prevailing heavy cold a few weeks ago, his debilitated frame was unable to withstand the attach, and heart failure intervening the end came peacefully on Thursday morning.

    Mr Moorhouse was born near Glen Buell, Elizabethtown, Leeds County, of Irish parentage, and his first business venture was operating a custom woolen mill near Athens in partnership with the elder Joshua Bates, long since deceased. In 1940 he came to Adamsville, now Glen Tay, near this town, where in conjunction with Mr. Daniel Adams he ran the various mills there, finally selling out to Mr. F.M. Adams. With his former partner, Mr. Joshua Bates, he worked the woolen mills at Sly's Smiths Falls, for one year, then returned to Glen Tay, where he, with various partners, operated the saw and woolen mills there, finally acquiring full possession of the property, and only a few years ago disposing of ti, the Perth Waterpower and Electric Company becoming the owners.

    For many years, Mr Moorhouse has been treasurer of the town and of other institutions, and was noted for correctness, carefulness and thorough efficiency. On account of being a town-official, Mayor Stewart ordered the flag on the town-hall to be put at half-mast.

    Deceased was married to Miss Elizabeth Adams, daughter of the late Capt. Adams, of Glen Tay, who preceded him to the grave some years. Their children were Minnie (Mrs. Davis); Lucy (Mrs. Ward), deceased; Maggie, Anna, and Henrietta (Mrs. Sabiston). Deceased was a brother of Mr John Moorhouse, Glen Buell. He was an adherent of the Methodist church, and in politics was a staunch Conservative.
