Melvin Porter Dies In California Last Saturday
A message was received here this week telling of the death of Melvin L. Porter, 41, Los Angeles, Calif., who died there from the effects to pneumonia, contracted during the trying days after the earthquake. Death came on Saturday night.
Mr. Porter, who formerly operated a blacksmith shop in Davenport, is survived by his widow, Edna, at Los Angeles, his aged mother, Mrs. Clara Porter at Davenport, and a brother, Charles at Odessa.
Funeral arrangements have not been ascertained but it is believed that services and burial will be held at Los Angeles. Work from California indicates that pneumonia cases are prevalent at Los Angeles, following the exposures that resulted during the earthquake.
Mrs. Porter two weeks ago received word from her son that he had escaped uninjured in the earthquake, and the news of his death came as a bad shock.
