    From Lanark Era:
Died in Winnipeg on Friday April 5, 1918, Mrs. James Smith age 44 years, formerly of Elphin.
Her son Willie is in France. Burial Sandford Cemetery Manitoba.

In May 2005, I visited Sandford Cemetery to locate James Smith and Janet McVeigh's grave. Spoke to the Administrator of the cemetery and there were three James Smith's buried in Sanford all without headstones and the cemetery had been originally by the river and the river kept flooding every year and the local municipality decided to move the cemetery to higher ground so older burials don't match new location.

Janet married James Smith in 1891. James (son of William Smith and Margaret Brownlee) was born on 16 Nov 1866 in Elphin, Dalhousie Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Sanford Cemetery, Sanford, Whitehorse Plains Census Division, Manitoba, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
