    NEWELL Donald Frederick of Victoria, after a lengthy illness at Royal Jubilee Hospital on March 10, 1984, aged 76. Survived by his loving wife Alice Mary; three daughters, Mrs. Dick (Pat) Palfrey of Vancouver, Mrs. Ron (Lois) Walker and Mrs. Sheila Bowlware, both of Victoria; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also four sisters and four brothers.

    Don was employed bv Nelson's New Method Laundry in Victoria for 28 years. Funeral service will be held Wednesday. March 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of First Memorial, 4725 Falaise Drive, Rev. Molloy officiating.

    Interment to follow at Hatley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Queen Alexandria Solarium for Children. Arrangements through the Memorial Society of B.C. and First Memorial Services.

    BARNES, Maymie Irene (nee Newell) Peacefully in her sleep on December 26, 2008 in Parksville at the age of 96. Predeceased by her husband Ernest Wickham Barnes, sons Ernest Roy and Kenneth Barnes, and by brothers and sisters Lillian, Donald, Howard, Patrick, Clifford, Marguerite, Eric, Iris, Gordon and Miriam. Remembered by her loving brother Lyall; grandchildren Diana, Steven, Jamie and great-grandchild Taylor, grandson Eric and great grandchildren James, Patrick and Monica and her numerous nieces and nephews and the many others who shared her life. Maymie was born in Calgary and soon moved to Victoria. There she raised her children while her husband Ernest served in WWII.

    She later worked with her husband cleaning banks, and as a housekeeper after her husband's death. She was a wonderful cook and a prize winning dancer. She belonged to the Hillside walking club after her retirement. She worked hard all her life and loved family gatherings. Memorial Service to be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Saanich on Saturday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m.

    NEWELL Allan Patrick (Pat), passed away peacefully on July 12, 1997 at Royal Jubilee Hospital, at the age of 83 years. He leaves his wife, Margaret (Peggy); his son, Eric (Kathy) of Fort McMurray; his daughter, Margaret (Tom) Lidkea of Victona; and Kathy of Williams Lake, B.C.; six grandchildren: Brian, Colleen and Erin Newell; Meghan, Heather and Christina Lidkea, He is also survived by several sisters and brothers: Lillian (Newell) and Chuck Bennett, Patricia Newell, Mamie (Newell) Barnes, Muriel Newell Marguerite (Newell) Arney, Lyall and Mickey Newell, Iris (Newell) Peters; 31 special nieces and nephews; and several other relatives and friends. Born on St. Patrick Day, 1914 In Calgary and raised in Victoria, Pat worked for the Royal Bank of Canada for 45 years and served in the Royal Canadian Army during the Second World War. He is the First Lifetime Member of the Victoria and District Baseball Association.

    Pat will be lovingly remembered as a kind, gentle husband, father and friend with an irrepressible sense of humor. He never refused to help anyone and asked so little for himself. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 15 at 2:00 PM at St. Alban's Anglican Church, 1468 Ryan Street, Victoria, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Predeceased by her loving husband, William Edmond Peters in 1992, brothers and sisters, Donald, Lillian Howard, Allan (Patrick), David (Clifford), Marguerite, Eric, Gordon, Miriam, and grandson William (Gavin) Peters. Survived by one brother, Lyall Newell, of Whitby, Ontario and one sister Maymie Barnes of Parksville, daughters, Maureen (Richard) Fielden, of Parksville, Joan (John) Hieta ot Lake Cowichan, sons, William (Terry) Peters of Lake Cowichan and Rod (Karen) Peters of Lake Cowichan, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

    Iris was a very caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother, always thinking of her family first. She will be sorely missed by all that had the privilege to know her. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the care mom received during these past weeks. We will always remember the love and hard work of Sandy and the girls at Nana's Place, the compassion and professionalism of Dr. Froese, and the extra love and devotion of mom's guardian angel Joan Hieta (our rock).

    BARNES, Ernest Roy My Best Friend June 18, 1932 October 12, 2007 Roy spent his last hours with his beloved wife Helen Barnes in Arrowsmith Lodge Parksville, BC. He was predeceased by his father Wicham Barnes, his brother Kenneth E. Barnes Sept. 207 of Kitimat, BC, his first wife Betty Barnes in 1991, grandparents of the Barnes family and the Newell family, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins of both families, all of Victoria, BC. He is survived by Mayme Irene Barnes (his mother), Helen Mary Barnes, son Eric Barnes, daughter Dianna Barnes (Eric Maw), stepchildren Bruce Jeffries, Crystal Dunahee (Bruce), Arthur Jeffries (Becky Williams), Larry Jeffries (Rosalee), Dorothy Arseneault (Chris), grandchildren James Barnes, Patrich Barnes, Monica Barnes, Michael Dunahee, Caitlin Dunahee, Jordan Arseneault, Cody Arseneault, Elliott Jeffries-Banner.

    Roy came home to Victoria after Betty's passing in 1991 and met his best friend of 55 years, his present wife Helen M. Barnes and their love and friendship returned and were happily married for 10 Years. Roy started in the ROTC after a short career found that his talents lead him to 33-year career in the Federal Government as a Personnel officer. He was also a member of the RCL Branch 49 Parksville and a lover of playing darts. There will be a viewing Thursday October 18, at Sands Funeral Chapel, 317 Goldstream Colwood, BC.
