DEATH CLAIMS CHARLES ELLIOTT, REGINA DRUGGIST The death of Charles W.' Elliott, for the past 18 years a resident of Regina and owner of Elliott's Drug Store. 2801 Fifth avenue, occurred late Tuesday night at his home, 319 Wildon Lodge. The late Mr. Elliott had no relatives In the city. A sister livos at Edmonton.

He came west to Winnipeg from Perth, Ontario, a number of years ago, and from there to Regina in 1911. He was 53 years of age. His death occurred Tuesday night at 11 oclock following a heart at tack. Funeral arrangements are be ing made at Speers' funeral home

ONe by one the relentless reaper, Death, is removing the old settlers of this county, who did so much toward making it noted for the industry and intelligence of its people. The last to pay the common penalty of death was Mr. John Elliott, of Pakenham, who was born in the township of Bathurst Jan. 3rd, 1820 - 77 years ago.

The late Mr. Elliott's parents came from Cavan County, Ireland, with the first settlers. Deceased came to Pakenham about 49 years ago, and carried on a boot and shoe business here for more than twenty years. He purchased the homestead in this township, and lived on it till about seven years ago, when he retired to Pakenham village. He was also an auctioneer for many years, and made this business, like everything else in which he engaged, a success. Within the past year or two deceased built a handsom residence here, which he was not destined to occupy for long. He was for some time tax-collector for the township of Pakenham, and was one of the most successful farmers in the township, being able, in the declining years of his life, to retire from the active duties of life, as well as to leave a fair competence to those dependent upon him.

In 1850 the late Mr. Elliott married Margaret Kerr, of Perth, daughter of the late Dawson Kerr, a schoolteacher who, in the early days opened a school in Perth. To them was born twelve children, all but one (who died in infancy) of whom survives. The family consists of seven sons - Robert A., Winnipeg; Dawson Kerr, wholesale merchant, Winnipeg; John, on the homestead in Pakenham township; George A. barrister in Winnipeg; Frederick C., barrister, West Selkirk, Manitoba; and five daughters - Eliza Ann (Mrs. William Patterson), Carleton Place; Katie J. F. (Mrs Dr. Jamieson), Pakenham; Maggie E. (Mrs W.W. Miller) of Pakenham; Edna, the youngest, at home in Pakenham. All the children are doing well and are in prosperous circumstances. Mrs. Elliott survives her husband, and is strong and vigorous, in spite of the fact that she faithfully nursed her husband through his illness, which lasted for more than a year. During his illness Mr Elliott was confined to his bed most of the time. His trouble was hardening of the spinal cord, with complications. It was a very painful disease, and during most of his illness deceased suffered great agony, which he bore with Christian resignation.

He was a Methodist, and a pronounced Conservative in politics. The funeral takes place today to the Methodist cemetery. In the late Mr. Elliott Pakenham loses on of its prominent landmarks, and a rugged specimen of the stalwarts who helped to make the county what it is today.

Mr. Archibald Elliott.
The townspeople were shocked on Tuesday forenoon upon learning that one of our respected citizens, Mr. Archibald Elliott, had died suddenly that morning. Mr. Elliott, though up in years, still followed occasionally his old occupation of cattle drover, and on Monday had, with his assistants, collected a lot of cattle at the farm of his son Robert, Ninth Line. His exertions made him somewhat sick and faint, through weakness of the heart, which had troubled him for some time; but he rose from his bed next morning quite well again. That morning he exerted himself somewhat in overlooking the herding the cattle when suddenly he complained of a dreadful pain in his side, and all at once fell to the ground a dead man. The cause of his death was heart failure. This was about ten o'clock in the morning. His brother Robert was driven out as soon as possible, and during the afternoon his body was brought to his late residence on Victoria street. Deceased was seventy-one years of age. He was born on the 9th line of Burgess, on the farm on which he died, and which was drawn by his father from the Government in the early settlement. The family came from the North of Ireland. Mr. Elliott was a prominent Conservative. He was married to Miss McLean, whose death last winter proved a great affliction to him. A few years ago the family came to town to live, and by that time Mr. Elliott had withdrawn pretty much from his active business life. He leaves two sons and two daughters: Robert, on the homestead farm; Chas. W., in Montreal; Mrs. Orr (Jennie), in Manitoba; and Edith, at home. The funeral took place yesterday. Rev. Mr. Hughes, pastor of Asbury church, conducting the services."

"Sudden Death. On Tuesday last, Mr. Philip McGowan, Scotch Line, Bathurst, was driven by his son Daniel to a neighbor's, Mr. Thomas McKinley, for a visit, the old man being in apparent excellent health. They took an early afternoon meal, and Mr. McGowan ate heartily. In the course of the meal, Mrs. McKinely asked him some question, and while answering it, Mr. McGowan's head dropped forward, and death came to him there and then. Heart weakening resulting from extreme old age was the cause. Deceased was a native of County Tyrone, Ireland, born in 1804, and came to Canada when seventeen years of age, first living in South Sherbrooke. Many years after he bought the Consitt farm, on the Tay River, Bathurst, and after that purchased his present farm, Scotch Line, Bathurst, two miles from Perth. He marries Miss Mary Buchanan, daughter of Sergeant Buchanan, who with a number of children survive him. He lived to the green old age of eighty-eight years, leaving behind him the esteem and respect of his friends and neighbors. He was a Roman Catholic in religion, and in politics an unfailing Liberal."
