They had 8 children, all born in Scotland ; Elizabeth (Mrs. Thomas Trnbull); John (married Jane Kelly); Jane (Mrs. Thomas Donaldson); William (married Maria Christelaw); James (married Elizabeth Fenner); Jack Hugh (married Margaret McDonell); Robert (married Elizabeth McKeown); & David Buchanan (married 1 - Violet Howie, 2 - Marion Love). They left Greenock, Scotland on May 11, 1821, on the ship 'Commerce', arriving at Quebec, Canada on June 20, 1821 with 422 passengers, under the command of Captain Coverdale. They settled in North Sherbrooke Township, Lanark County, Ontario. William died July 24,1844.

    James Bryce along with his wife and 6 children departed Greenock, Scotland July 17th, 1815 aboard the "Atlas" arriving at Qu?bec September 4th. He was a farmer back in West Calder, Midlothian Scotland and resumed his trade on the first Line of Bathurst accumulating a large amount of land on the Scotch Line.

    "DIED. ... Bryce. On Saturday, 5th Nov., Mr. James Bryce, Scotch Line, aged 88 years. Deceased came from Scotland in 1815 when 16 years of age, and settled on the Scotch Line. Being under age he was not entitled to free land grant, but his tall stature induced the Government agent to make him an exception, and he got his land. This was at the head of the Scotch Line, where he lived for sixty-eight years. Deceased never married, and for the last twenty two years his niece, [Margaret Bryce] Mrs. George Hossie, took charge of him, and treated the old man with much kindness, making her fireside a pleasant one for her uncle, who had no other friends in Canada. Mr. Bryce originally belonged to the Cameronian branch of the Presbyterian church, but there being no church of that body here he joined himself with Knox Church congregation in Perth. We think deceased was the last of the pioneers who settled the Scotch Line."
