At McDonald's Corners, Thurs. Sept. 3rd, Alexander McDonald, sr., aged 84 years. Born at Playfair, eldest son of John McDonald, who came from Scotland in 1815. He married Mary Cameron, who died ten years ago. They had eight children; Hugh, and Alex in Dalhousie; John in the West; Mrs. Hugh Wilson, Elphin; Mrs McDonald, Palmyra, NY; Mary & Bella, at home. One son, Samuel, is dead. Two brothers survive, Peter, and Hugh. Mrs. Elliott, Michl, and Mrs Wm Lee, Fallbrook, are sisters. Burial in the Highland Line Cemetery on Saturday.

Drowned -- On Monday evening, 18th Nov., a well known resident of Dalhousie named John McDonald, over 60 years of age, living at the Highland Line turn, had been in Lanark Village drinking, and left for his home near McDonald's Corners, with a span of horses and a milk wagon. On Tuesday morning the wagon was found turned upside down. The horses were found on Tuesday evening. Parties in the vicinity where the wagon was found turned out to search for him on Tuesday, but did not find him until Wednesday forenoon, when his body was found in Boulton's Creek, lying in shallow water, his coat being partly above water.

Mrs. Mary Elliott, 95, widow of Archie Elliott and prominent Huron county pioneer for more than 50 years, died in her home in Colfax township this morning after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Elliott is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. John Stang, Detroit; Mrs W.P. Hosttler, Fresno, Calif.; Mrs Sarah E Smith, Greenleaf township, Sanilac county; Mrs Elizabeth McKenzie, Portland, Ore.; Miss Rachael Elliott, Palm Beach, Fla.; Miss Jane Elliott and Miss Florence Elliott, both at home, two sons, Herbert and Edward Elliott, both at home, 17 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren

The former Miss Mary McDonald was born in Lanark County, Canada. Jul 19, 1842. She was the daughter of a veteran of the war of 1812.

She came to Huron county with her husband in 1884 and settled on the farm where she had lived ever since. Her husband died 16 years ago.

Eight of her nine children were present at the celebration of her ninety-fifth birthday this summer.

John McDonald died 22 July 1922 of Diabetes, on his death certificate he was listed as a carpenter.
John was son of John McDonald and Maria Rogers of McDonald's Corners, Ontario.
On 25 Dec 1895 he married Catherine "Kate" Deachman Munro at Ardoch, Ontario.
John and Kate farmed on Con 7, Lot 25 of Clarendon Twp, at Ardoch, Ontario then by 1921 they had moved to Fort William, Ontario. According to the book "Away Back in Clarendon and Miller" by Charles A. Armstrong: John had moved from McDonald's Corners, Ontario to Ardoch to work on the log drives of the upper Mississippi River where in 1895 he married Catherine "Kate" Munro who had also moved with her parents from McDonald's Corners. They lived on a farm on Con 7, Lot 25 of Clarendon, Twp and had eight children: Lorne, Russell, Hugh John, Earl, Viola, Flossie, Nuel and William. In 1911 the family moved to Fort William, Ontario. A few years later son Lorne moved back to Ardoch, Ontario and married Olive Gertrude Watkins and raised a family there. There are still descendants of Lorne and Olive's living in the Ardoch area today.

John married Catherine Deachman "Kate" Munro in 1895. Catherine was born on 11 May 1874 in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 17 Apr 1944 in Fort William, Thunder Bay District, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Mrs Sarah Lindsay of Avard, Okla. Died after Two-Week Illness

Mrs Sarah Lindsay, 69, Avard, Olka died thursday in a Halstead hospital after a two week illness. She was born in Canada, and had resided in Oklahoma since the opening of the Cherokee Strip.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Sadie Byxbee and a son, James, both of Avard.

Funeral services will be held at 9 am Monday at St Mary's cathedral, with burial in Calvary cemetery. Flanagan-Bourman mortuary is in charge.

Mrs Ellen Jardine Dies
After Lingering Illness
Mrs Ellen Jardine, a former Fairhope resident and operator of the Kanuck Hotel, on Fairhope Ave., died Wednesday night, August the 22nd at 10:30 o'clock at Tinley Park, Ill., following a long and tedious illness.

Mrs Jardine had made her home with her son, Norman Jardine for a number of years. Funeral services will be held on Friday.

Hugh L. McDonald

A gloom was cast over the community of McDonald's Corners when it was learned of the sudden passing of Mr Hugh "Larry" McDonald in the Kingston General Hospital on July 2, 1945. Although not enjoying the best of health the past few months Mr. McDonald was going about his usual work until two weeks ago when he entered the hospital.

As son of the late John McDonald and Maria Rodgers he was born May 28th, 1871 on the adjoining farm, where he spent his entire life. On November 15, 1894 he was united in marriage with Mary McCulloch, who survives with four daughters, Mrs Hazel Parks, Parry Sound; Jessie , Mrs Lindsay Scott, Fallbrook; Elsie of Perth, Nursing Sister Rose Kingston Military Hospital; also four grandchildren and one great grandson. One brother James, of McDonald's Corners and sister, Mrs. Ellen Jardine, of Chicago and half brother, Albert, of McDonald's Corners, half sisters Margaret, and Mrs Edward Abraham of Sask. are the last surviving members of the family of nine.

The funeral held from the late home on Wednesday, July 4, was one of the largest ever seen in the community and showed the high respect in which the deceased was held as did fitting remarks paid to him by Rev. K. McCaskill who conducted the service. He spoke of his cheery disposition and described Mr McDonald as a friend to all who knew him. Burial took place in Highland Line Cemetery where the pallbearers were Duncan Ferguson, James Warrington, Howard McInnes, Ernie McDonald, Albert Anderson, and Haddon Wilson.

Flower bearers were four grandsons, Archie and Ivan Scott, Hughie Parks and Mervyn McGinnes.

Mrs. Viola Holgate, aged 78 years, resident of 205 Grey Street, died in hospital early Wednesday morning March 9, 1983. Born in Ardoch, Ontario, the former Viola McDonald, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack McDonald, she was married to Cyril Holgate in 1923. Her husband predeceased her in 1942. Surviving are two daughters, Jean, Mrs Bruce Glenn, 163 East Christina Street; Shirley, Mrs. Ken Crawford, Longley BC (enroute), two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers, Earl, Newell, and William McDonald, all of Thunder Bay, and other relatives. She was predeceased by brothers, Lorne, Russell, Hugh and Peter, sister Flossie Glover.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:30 pm in the Jenkens Funeral Home. Rev. Joan Mckintosh of First Church United will officiate and interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
