Suddenly at his home, R. R. # 2 Carleton Place, November 17, 1976, James Clifford Gardiner in his 74th year, beloved husband of the former Evelyn Houston. Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his death two sons, Keith of Beaconsfield, Que., and George of Beckwith Township. Also two sisters, Ida (Mrs. Eddie Rathwell) and Ellen (Mrs. Osmond McNeely) and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Grace McNeely in 1962; two sisters, Sadie (Mrs. Frank Cooke) and Annie (Mrs. Bill Armstrong) and two brothers, William and Charles. Jim was born in Scotch Corners in 1903 to the late George Gardiner and his wife, Ida Susan Stanley. He farmed here until his retirement in 1964. At this time, he and his wife Evelyn took up residence on the 9th line of Beckwith. He rested at the Kerry Funeral Home from 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, until the funeral service from St. John's Church, Innisville, November 26. Interment was in St. John's cemetery. An Orange service was held Friday at 8 p.m. Honorary pallbearers were Clifford Gardiner, Fred Irvine, Percy Leach, Alfred Poole, Howard McNeely and Lorne Cooke. Active pallbearers were Kenneth Gardiner, Peter McGregor, Harold McNeely, Robert Brydges Sr, Stanley Armstrong and Mervin Henderson.

James married Grace Marcella McNeely in 1933. Grace (daughter of John James McNeely and Harriet Letitia Wrathall) was born on 8 May 1910 in Beckwith Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 27 Sep 1962 in Ottawa, Carleton County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Saint John's Anglican Cemetery, Innisville, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. James married Louise Evelyn Houston in 1964. Louise was born on 14 Aug 1905; died on 21 Jan 1990; was buried in Saint John's Anglican Cemetery, Innisville, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
