    Phyllis Marie (Cummings) Barnes, age 81 of Owosso passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Oliver Woods Retirement Village.

    Funeral services will be held 11am Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Nelson-House Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Strawser officiating. Burial will follow at the Ithaca Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10am until the time of service.

    Phyllis was born July 2, 1935 in Ithaca, the daughter of Bernard and Nilah (Kennett) Cummings and married Bart Barnes in Ithaca on January 20, 1957.

    She earned a degree in nursing from Hurley School of Nursing and was a registered nurse and certified gerontology nurse at various facilities; hospital, private clinic, and medical care center. Phyllis spent her last 24 years at Pleasant View as the nursing supervisor.

    Phyllis was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. Most of all she looked forward to spending time with her family and attending their many events and activities.

    She is survived by her husband of 60 years Bart; children Matt (Theresa) Barnes, Michele (Louie) Ambs, Mark (Lynn) Barnes and Mike (Michele) Barnes; grandchildren Brandon (Jessica), Kendall, Alex, Devin (Andrea), Niccole, Garrett and Gavin; great-grandchildren Nathan, Adelyn and Daxton; 2 sisters Coleen (Larry) Trexler and Connie Malloy; sister-in-law Delores Sailor; several nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

    Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, and brother-in-law Mike Malloy.

    Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of donors choice.
