    Dickenson County, Virginia, United States
reported to be where he died

Earliest explorers in ?u??i?Wise County?/u??/i? was about 1750 - Thomas Walker and hristopher Gist. Forts built after 1774. Considered too dangerous, even for hunting, until after 1794. The Cherokee conquered the area including Wise from the Xualae between 1671 and 1685. It was later contested by the Six Nations and the Shawnee. Cherokee and Shawnee hunting parties fought a protracted battle at the headwaters of the Clinch River for two days in the summer of 1786, a victory for the Cherokee although losses were heavy on both sides.

?u??i?Russell County?/u??/i? to the east of Wise; established in 1786 from a section of Washington County. Once vast, Russell County was split several times, giving rise to Tazewell County, Lee County, Scott County, Wise County, Buchanan County and Dickenson County.

?u??i?Dickenson County?/u??/i?, formed in 1880 from parts of Buchanan County, Russell County, and Wise County, is Virginia's youngest county.

?u??i?Buchanan County?/u??/i? was established in 1858 from parts of Russell and Tazewell counties, and it was named in honor of then-President James Buchanan; however, the pronunciation of the county's name differs from that of the 15th president's surname, with locals saying "Boo-can-nin". In 1880, part of Buchanan County was taken to form Dickenson County.

?u??i?Tazewell County?/u??/i?: In the spring of 1771, Thomas and John Witten established the first permanent settlement in Tazewell County at Crab Orchard. As population increased in the area, Tazewell County was created on December 20, 1799. The land for the county was taken from portions of Wythe and Russell counties.

    Notes:

Airth is a Royal Burgh, village, former trading port and civil parish in Falkirk, Scotland. It is 8 miles (13 kilometres) north of Falkirk town and sits on the banks of the River Forth. Airth lies on the A905 road between Grangemouth and Stirling and is overlooked by Airth Castle, the village retains two market crosses and a small number of historic houses. At the time of the 2001 census the village had a population of 1,273 residents.[1] but this has been revised to 1,660 according to a 2008 estimate.[2]

he village has long association with the River Forth and it was on the banks of the river that a royal dockyard was created. It was used during the years 1507-1513 in the reign of James IV to build ships of war at the pool of Airth. History reveals that a primitive form of dry dock was used. Strong timbers would be used to form the "stocks" for the vessel and a clay dam would prevent the river from penetrating the working area. When the ship was ready, the dam would be breached, at high tide, to enable it to float out into the river. The shipping fleet was destroyed in 1745 by Bonnie Prince Charlie when some ship to shore skirmishes took place by batteries set by Jacobites to drive off the government ships. A number of smaller vessels from the village were burned by loyalist troops and that proved damaging to Airth's subsequent development as a port. However, as late as 1820 sloops built in the shipyards at Airth were among those recorded as operating in the middle of the Forth .
