    Notes:

    (Research):In the 1851 census
James was listed as born in 1838, William was born in 1840, and Mary was born in 1843 - all in Ireland

    In the 1861 census
James is listed as born in 1841, William as born in 1842, and Mary Ann as born in 1844

William is listed as 22 when he married Isabella, thus a birth of 1842 seems reasonable.

    Notes:

(Research):It is interesting that I cannot find birth records for any of this family although baptisms may exist.

I have some thought that ?u?Mary Ann?/u? who was born 4 months after Isabella marriage to William may have been James' child as registered on her death certificate but was raised by Isabella. James seems to have preferred the military life and may have been involved in travel and training/management with them.

It is interesting that ?u?Lucy's?/u? death certificate also lists James as her father.

Could it be that James and Isabella had a relationship, Mary Ann was on her way, and William stepped in to marry Isabella because James was elsewhere? Could this be where the dual name James William started to appear in the records? What became of William?

William mysteriously disappears, never to be found. James cannot marry Isabella because William's death is not known or recorded. The census taker in 1871 is confused and enters both names?

Where a mother's name is recorded on most of the children's death certificates, some do not mention a father.

I think the true story will never be known, lost in family/community lore, maybe whispered about but never formally acknowledged.

    Birth:
Mary Ann Warrington Matthie's death certificate leaves her mother's name blank and indicates that her father was James Warrington.

    Died:
    McDonald
It was indeed a shock to the community of Playfair and Fallbrook to learn of the sudden passing away of Mrs. Peter McDonald at her home on the evening of Wednesday, July 22 nd. Although she had been in poor health for some time yet the end came very suddenlly. She had been to Perth that morning to see the doctor and after returning home she took a hemmorage. The doctor was summoned and everything done for her and no one expected the summons was so close at hand. She passed peacefully away at eleven o'clock. Mrs. McDonald was born on the 11th line of Bathurst, on April 18, fifty-six years ago. She was the daugher of the late Mr and Mrs William Warrington. Thirty-four years ago she was married to Peter McDonald who survives to mourn her loss together with two sons, Nelson and Gordon and two daughters Lila and Viola. One son Sstanley died ten years ago. Three sisters also survive, Mrs. Matthie (Mary A.); Mrs Sam Ennis of Blairmore, Alta; and Mrs. T. Lake (Christena).

Mrs McDonald was always a regular attendant at the United Church at Playfair, where as a little girl she attended the Sunday School and never lost interest in it. Although of a quiet disposition she was ever readay to help in any way and every way she could the interest of the church and community. In the home she will be sadly missed as she was a devoted wife and mother and although in poor health for some years she was never heard to complain, but bore her trials with christian gratitude. She was laid in her last resting place in Playfair cemetery on July 24th, the Rev. I.N. Beckstead conducting the service in Playfair Church and took for his text, "Our God is a refugeand a present help in every trouble." The pall bearers were Messrs Hugh Jackson, John Ashby, Robert Ashby, Wm. Milikin, Duncan Ferguson and Thos. North. The casket was covered with many floral tributes from the family, friends and acquaintances and members of Women's Association of Playfair United Church of which she was a faithful member.

At the recent final session of the Lanark County Council in Perth, Reeve C.M. Forbes, chairman of the Roads and Bridges Committee, red the following interesting report which was adopted:
Since the June session of Council the road work of the County, in construction and maintenance, has been carried forward without interruption, up to the end of the season and to the poiint where the funds allotted to the various pronjects had been expended, except in the case of County Road Outfit #1. An outbreak of typhoid fever in this camp caused us to stop this work in the month of September, and disperse the men. Six men were attacked by the disease and we regret to have to report that one fine young man, ?u?Stanley McDonald?/u?, of the township of Bathurst died as a result.

Died of Typhoid Fever. Stanley Holden McDonald, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter McDonald, Lanark, died on Oct. 24th of typhoid fever. He had been working on the good roads between Franktown and Carleton Place when he and several others were stricken with the disease.

    Buried:
ashes scatterd at the edge of Frank Slide, marker in 152 St. Frank, Alberta

also recorded as Frank Slide Memorial Cemetery, Crowsnest Pass, Canmore Census Division, Alberta, Canada

This small cemetery was informally established in 1922 with the discovery and burial of six victims of the Frank Slide of 1903. The cemetery was formalized in 1953. Since then two additional persons have had their ashes scattered here.

Although their memory is honored here, please note that this cemetery is NOT the burial place for other victims of the Frank Slide. Memorials for the victims whose bodies were never recovered are at https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2663855/the-frank-slide .

    The Frank Slide
On April 29, 1903 a massive landslide fell from the side of Turtle Mountain into the valley below, known as the Frank Slide after the nearby village of Frank. About ninety persons were killed, and only a few bodies were recovered. The memorials recorded here are for those persons whose bodies were never found, and remain beneath the Frank Slide. Information on the victims can be found at the nearby Frank Slide Interpretive Centre.

Memorials here do not include six victims whose bodies were discovered in 1922 and were interred in the Frank Slide Memorial Cemetery (ID 2663655). The Frank Cemetery (ID 2603311), which served the village of Frank from 1901 until 1903, was buried beneath the Frank Slide so no victims of the Frank Slide are buried there.

Gladys married Emile Henri Verquin on 25 Jan 1934 in Pinchercreek, Alberta, Canada. Emile was born on 25 Apr 1906 in Nord, France; died on 31 Aug 1994. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Died:
Alberta death certificate number 1930-08-404665; registered as Ennis, Edward. Died at Blairmore. DC index has place of birth as 08, meaning Alberta.

Month and year of birth from 1911 Census of Canada.

From the Blairmore Enterprise, May 29, 1930, Page 1, via the Peel Library of the University of Alberta website:
    DEATH OF EDWARD ENNIS
An unusual cloud of gloom was cast over Blairmore and district on Sunday morning, when the news spread of the rather unexpected death of Edward, twenty-two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ennis, pioneer residents.
Edward was taken ill on the Tuesday previous and his illness developed into pneumonia within a couple of ays [sic]. Hope for his recovery, however, was entertained until Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, when he quite unexpectedly passed on.
Edward was very well known throughout the district and was looked upon by everyone as being of a most admirable disposition. He was during school days a room-mate of "Billy" Hamilton, whose tragic death occurred near Drumheller last week at about the same age.
Edward is survived by a young wife, formerly Miss Doris Williams; also his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Delbert, and four sisters: Elaine, residing here; Mrs. J. A. McLean, residing north of Lundbreck; and Mrs. Thomas Clark and Miss Marion Ennis, residing at Vancouver, with [sic] all of whom general sympathy is extended.
Funeral took place yesterday afternoon and was largely attended. Following an impressive service conducted at the home by Rev. A. D. Currie, the remains were laid to rest in the Blairmore cemetery.
Two large drays were necessary to convey the numerous and beautiful floral tributes.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Clark and Miss Marion Ennis were present from Vancouver.

Family/Spouse: Doris Williams. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Mary Jane would have been my Grand mother. My mother's name was Marion Lake.

I honestly don't know really anything about my family history. My dad's parents died like I mentioned, well before I was born, and all my dad's siblings were broken up and taken in by different families.

Not a name in my tree - yet! But you are a DNA match - fairly strong??? The Mather connection works with the prediction???

Forbes was the adoptive name. I am not sure if my biological grandparents were siblings of Mary Jane or not. The biological last name was Amell (not 100% sure on the spelling )

Was Forbes the adoptive name? Would the biological parents have been a sibling of Mary Jane?

Very interesting. Those would be my adopted Grandparents. My Dad (Carman) lost his biological mother and father to the plague, or some kind of epidemic of the time, and was taken in by the Forbes'. Thanks for reaching out!
