The following obituary of Lucy (Blackman) Farnsworth appeared in the December 29, 1893 edition of the Madelia [MN] Times:

    "A Good Mother Gone

"Expired this life, at their home, near this city, at 6:20 o'clock on Christmas Eve., Mrs. Lucy Blackman Farnsworth. The deceased was born near Newbon [sic - Newboro], Ontario, Canada, Feb. 7, 1829. In early life she came to DeKalb, Ill., and there was married to Chandler Farnsworth, Feb. 7, 1829. In 1864 they moved to Madelia, and Jan. 29th, 1888, she buried her husband.

"In 1874, she experienced religion under the pastoral labors of Rev. N. A. Trowbridge and united with the Methodist church, of which she has ever since been a worth member, and was a faithful attendant upon church duties until infirmities prevented. She has been in ill health for some time, but not seriously sick only about two weeks.

"She was always a gentle and kind mother is the testimony of her children, and her Christian influence has been a help to them, and she gave as little trouble as possible. She will long be remembered by her afflicted family. The funeral was held in the Methodist church, on Wednesday, and an appropriate discourse preached by the pastor. The casket, covered by beautiful floral tributes, was then borne to cemetery. Our sympathies are with her bereaved family and may they emulate her excellent example."

In the newspaper column adjoining this article was the following note of thanks from Lucy's living children:

    "Card of Thanks

"To our friends and neighbors, we extend our heartfelt thanks, for their help and sympathy, in our bereavement. A.C. FARNSWORTH, INEZ FARNSWORTH, MR. AND MRS. F. FARNSWORTH, PHILO FARNSWORTH."

Lucy married Chandler Farnsworth in 1862. Chandler (son of David Farnsworth and Sophia Howes) was born on 4 May 1820 in Hawley, Franklin County, Massachusetts, United States; died on 29 Jan 1888 in Madelia, Watonwan County, Minnesota, United States; was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Watonwan County, Minnesota, United States.
