(Research):Hi my Great Great Great paternal Grandmother was Catharine Boyle born about 1800 probably in County Antrim. She was married to a Thomas McBride. She emigrated to Ontario Canada about 1871 from Campbeltown Scotland. I would love to find out more about her earlier life, when where she was born and her immediate family. Any help would be very much appreciated from a novice in Irish family history.

An article written by a Mr C.M. Forbes and published in the Perth Courier 15 Dec 1905 through 9 February 1906 (transcribed by C. Dobie) records that a Robert Boyle was one of the founding members of the management committee of the Lanark Agricultural Society when it was formed in 1850.

The whole family (with the exemption of William) appear to have taken ship from London for Brisbane AU on the 'Golden City' on 23 Oct 1865, arriving in Australia on 5 Feb 1866. The shipping records relating o the 'Golden City' seems to indicae that the brothers John (Margaret), Robert (Elizabeth) and David (Nancy Agnes Jameson) brought wives with them from Canada. It appears that the daughters Kate (Katharine/Catharine) and May (Mary) married in Australia.

They took up agricultural land near Ipswich, Queensland, AU, where they built a small cottage called 'Kelvin Grove' (harking back no doubt to the Kelvin River of Robert Hendry Boyles's Scottish origins). Most of the cottage still stands, although nearly derelict since a fire in about 2000.

?/i?Robert Hendry Boyle born in 1793 (1795?) at Campsie Scotland and his wife Janet Miller, born in 1808 (1802?) and their eight adult children and their families came to Queensland from Scotland via Canada arriving in the 1860s. Robert and Janet 'took up' 120 acres of land, part of the 11,000 acres that made up the Ipswich Reserve, calling their property 'Kelvin Grove' after their home in Scotland. Other members of the family 'took up' parcels of land near by. In 1872, Robert gave an acre of his land for the Hillgrove School. The family grew cotton until the 1880s and for a while tried flax. Robert and Janet are both buried at the Harrisville cemetery.

(Research):Jean Rainey 25 Grey St. Glenbrook, NSW AU 2773 sent a book 'Looking Back along the Fassifern Valley' by Harry Pugsley, 1975 which has a chapter about Robert Boyle and Janet Miller and their family to JRE Miller about 1990.

Tracey Crow Midland Highway Byrneside 3617 provided some basic information on the first generation of the Boyle family and John Miller about 1990.

No contact was made with living descendants of either.

Robert Hendry Boyle was baptised on 3 September 1795, according to the old parochial register of births and baptisms of the Parish of Campsie, County of Stirling, Scotland. His parents were recorded as "William Boyle, Fevar Eastertown of Balgreihend, and his spouse Catherine Hendry". Based upon Robert Hendry Boyle's recorded age of 88 as at the date of his death in Australia on 13 July 1881, his birth year would have been 1792 or 1793. Robert Hendry Boyle and married Janet Miller, daughter of William Miller and Janet (or Mary) Burns, in Canada (source: Janet Miller's death certificate) on 4 March 1825 (source: entry in Robert Hendry Boyle's family bible). The children of the marriage are recorded (in the family bible) as being: Katharene, born 25 Sept 1826 Mary, born 20 Dec 1828 William, born 11 Feb 1831 John Hendry, born 7 (month illegible) 1834 Robert Hendry, born 21 Dec 1835 David Miller, born 31 Dec 1837 James, born 16 April 1840 Mungo Alexander, born 14 Oct 1842 Mungo Alexander Boyle's marriage certificate (he was married in Australia on 18 November 1869) specifically gives his birthplace as (town or place): Lanark (county or shire): Lanark (country): Canada West, and in the absence of any contrary evidence I am assuming that all the other children were also born in Lanark Twp. I was advised that in the 1991 publication by Carol Bennett, "The Lanark Society Settlers", contains numerous relevant references, including the fact that "Janet (Jessie) Miller, who was 12 years old when she came to Canada, married Robert Boyle of lot 6, con 2, Lanark Twp.", and that the 1851 census showed their family as follows: Catherine, 28 Mary, 26 William, 24 John, 18 Robert, 15

Daily Mail (Brisbane, Qld. : 1903 - 1926), Monday 18 June 1923, page 8........OBITUARY...MR. R.H. BOYLE. Mr. Robert. Hendry Boyle, one of the very earliest , settlers in this district, died at the Ipswich General Hospital on June 9. after a short illness, at the age of 88 years (writes our Harrisville correspondent). In the early days deceased was a member of the Goolman Divisional Board when the board's office was at Flinders. He is survived by a large family. For some time before his death he resided with his daughter, Mr. John Wiggins. The interment took place at the Harrisville cemetery on Sunday, the burial service being conducted by Evangelist Arnold, of the Church of Christ, Boonah.

However records show he died in Ingham, Herbert District, Queensland but his wife Elizabeth McEwan died in Harrisville suggesting that he had contact with the family. He married 24 May 1864 and lived in Ingham, Herbert District, Queensland, Australia, well north ( abt 1500 km) of Brisbane where the family landed.

The undeveloped town of Marathon lies between the Flinders Highway and the Marathon railway station on the Great Northern railway line from Townsville to Mount Isa. Although the town did not develop, the Flinders Highway deviates to bypass it. The name Marathon drives from the pastoral run name first used by the lessees in 1863, at the suggestion of William Lempriere Frederick Sheaffe, the Commissioner of Crown Lands Kennedy District, using a Greek historical name. The town of Marathon first appears on a 1916 survey plan.

he Flinders Highway is a highway that crosses Queensland east to west, from Townsville on the Pacific coast to Cloncurry. The road continues as the Barkly Highway from Cloncurry to the Northern Territory border at Camooweal and beyond. The Flinders Highway passes a number of small outback towns and typical outback landscape predominates towards the inland. It was known as National Route 78 before Queensland began to convert to the alphanumeric system being adopted in Australia and is now designated as A6. The Great Northern Railway is a 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in) railway line in Queensland, Australia. The line stretches nearly 1,000 kilometres linking the port city of Townsville, Australia to the mining town of Mount Isa in north-west Queensland. Along with a passenger service called the Inlander, it is a major freight route connecting the Mount Isa Mines to the Townsville Port. In 2010 the line moved 5.8 million tonnes of cargo, and this is expected to increase significantly in coming years.

Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. Townsville is Australia's largest urban centre north of the Sunshine Coast, with a population of 180,820 as of June 2018.[1] Considered the unofficial capital of North Queensland by locals, Townsville hosts a significant number of governmental, community and major business administrative offices for the northern half of the state.[4] It is in the dry tropics region of Queensland, adjacent to the central section of the Great Barrier Reef.[5] The city is also a major industrial centre, home to one of the world's largest zinc refineries, a nickel refinery and many other similar activities. The Port of Townsville is also being expanded to allow much larger cargo ships from Asia and the world's largest passenger ships to visit. Early history
Such indigenous groups as the Wulgurukaba, Bindal, Girrugubba, Warakamai and Nawagi, among others, originally inhabited the Townsville area.[6][7] The Wulgurukaba claim to be the traditional owner of the Townsville city area; the Bindal had a claim struck out by the Federal Court of Australia in 2005.[8]

James Cook visited the Townsville region on his first voyage to Australia in 1770, but did not actually land there. Cook named nearby Cape Cleveland, Cleveland Bay and Magnetic(al) Island.[9] In 1819, Captain Phillip Parker King and botanist Alan Cunningham were the first Europeans to record a local landing.[9] In 1846, James Morrill was shipwrecked from the Peruvian, living in the Townsville area among the Bindal people for 17 years before being found by white men and returned to Brisbane.[9]

The Burdekin River's seasonal flooding made the establishment of a seaport north of the river essential to the nascent inland cattle industry.[10] John Melton Black of Woodstock Station, an employee of Sydney entrepreneur and businessman Robert Towns, dispatched Andrew Ball, Mark Watt Reid and a detachment of 8 troopers of the Native Police under the command of John Marlow to search for a suitable site.[9] Ball's party reached the Ross Creek in April 1864 and established a camp below the rocky spur of Melton Hill, near the present Customs House on The Strand.[9] Edward Kennedy, a member of the surveying party, recalls the Native Police chasing local tribesmen into the ocean and 'pumping lead' at them. On the return journey to Port Denison, the group 'dispersed' another aboriginal clan, rounding up fifteen women 'who remained at the scene of combat' and abducted them back to the barracks. No mention is made of the fate of any children.[11] The first party of settlers, led by W. A. Ross, arrived at Cleveland Bay from Woodstock Station on 5 November of that year. In 1866 Robert Towns visited for three days, his first and only visit. He agreed to provide ongoing financial assistance to the new settlement and Townsville was named in his honour.[9]

Townsville was declared a municipality in February 1866, with John Melton Black elected as its first Mayor.[9] Townsville developed rapidly as the major port and service centre for the Cape River, Gilbert, Ravenswood, Etheridge and Charters Towers goldfields.[10] Regional pastoral and sugar industries also expanded and flourished. Townsville's population was 4,000 people in 1882 and grew to 13,000 by 1891.

The Satellite Lease-one of the Planet group of Waverley's early days, and now held by Mr. Harry Carson, is being again worked by him. He is working on a nice leader that was passed through when sinking the shaft, and it runs from about 6 ft. from the surface down to within a few feet of the tunnel level, and is dipping into the hill. From present appearances a 50 ton crushing is spoken of, and if all is of a quality to what is now being raised, a good result will be obtained. Everyone on the field would like to see the present owner get a turn-up, for he is one of those who has tried to send the place ahead, and what is
more, has always been willing to help along anybody who wished assistance in prospecting or developing a show; in fact, one of the old school of mining men who are fast disappearing from our nothern fields.

Across Oakey Creek one of Paul Poppendorf's shows is still being worked, as also is Boyle and party's wolfram claim. The drop In wolfram will felt by the latter, more especially as their claim was looking well, and was in good working order. A bit of bad luck for the holders to bump against a falling market when all dead work was accomplished.

Mat Cockrell's parcel of 13 tons cleaned tip for two tons black tin, and he tells me that he has another crushing of equal quality In sight. Evidently the Rob Roy, which was about the richest of the Waverley Co.'s leases, is not done yet, but is only beginning to show Itself.

Everthing has a dry appearance round Waverley just now. Water is scarce and so is feed for stock. As if this was not bad enough, some one set fire to the grass near the township. Dry feed is bad enough, but no feed at all is worse, and it woul appear as if the lesson tought by the drought year - when nearly all grass had been burnt in anticipation of the rain that never came - has been forgotten. . .

David Boyle took up the land which Mr. Ellemore has now also. The children were Clarence, David, Tom, Harriett, Lizzie, Ada and Andrew. When David was three years old he was bitten by a snake and died. Two of the other children died later. Mr. Boyle was a very tall man, and did a lot of pit sawing and carpentering. He built the Congregational Church and Goan's Hotel at Coulon. When he sold his farm to Mr Harry Muller of Obum, he went to live at Clan's blacksmith's shop at the foot of McCourt's Hill. Mr. Gus Lewald now owns that property.

I've been working quite intensely, trying to finalize some info on the Queensland Boyle Miller connection over the past week. I'm really struggling with the Alfred James Boyle McIntyre situation.
Did you ever find evidence that James and Ann married? Why can I not find any evidence of Ann's death other than a photo of her stone (where is it located?)
Is there a story that has been buried???
Also do you know anything of Dursella Boyle, raised by Robert Hendry and Janet Miller family. The story I am hearing is that she was the child of one of the Boyle men, and it has been suggested Robert Hendry? I have her descendants but trying to untangle the family 'story'.

Ann McIntyre is buried at Hopetown with her parents Sandy McIntyre and Jane Yuill whose sister in law was Kitty McNab the illegitimate daughter of the 17th Laird of McNab ?

McNab Township Renfrew County. Jane Yuill's brother died fighting in the War of the Rebellion in the United States and Kitty ( Catherine ) returned to Canada. Kitty's mother was the Laird's housekeeper Catherine Fisher.

Ann McIntyre dies in 1858 at age 19 giving birth to Alfred James Boyle. This is as you know well before mandatory government registration for births, deaths, marriages begins in 1869 and just because it became mandatory in 1869 does not mean that people complied ? in fact large numbers did not ? evidence what we have found in the Huron Tract in that regards for example.

Ann McIntyre died in childbirth at age 19 giving birth to Alfred. Her parents Sandy and Jane decided to raise Alfred and James Boyle got a shot at a new life in such tragic circumstances and he went to Colony of Australia and eventually in time had another family with Margaret Sophia Wilson.

I'm sure James and Ann would have married but I have not looked for a marriage record which would have to be in a parish register as I never felt a need to given my Lawson knowledge ofg the events. Though tragic it is actually a not right term but kind of nice story/solution as Alfred was raised with his grandparents in a loving environment and as a sibling to his Uncles and Aunts and James Boyle got shot at a new life as things would have been tough for him.

Many of James Boyle's siblings got married in the Congregational Church in Middleville which is today an artist studio and it is across the road from my 3 great Uncle Sandy's place and beside Affleck and McLachlan House. Place to look if you want to try to find a marriage record may be in the congregational registers if they could be found ? I have never run across them and Robert Somerville son of John Somerville Senior and Margaret Gray was a prime mover in the Middleville congregational church. Some of the records for the Middleville congregational church are misfiled/lost and are actually at McMaster from what Robert Urquharts 4 great granddaughter mentioned to me.

Alfred is actually not widowed. Marion left him, they split up and she married someone else and later died in 1967.

Sandy's farm was on the 2nd Concession of Lanark Township and Hopetown was their nearest village. They raised a large family of 4 sons and 3 daughters, besides raising Alfred Boyle , their grandchild, when his mother Ann died in childbirth. Sandy's wife was Jane Yuill, a daughter of the original William Yuill and Jennie Mitchell of White Lake. After his wife died it is believed he made his home at his son William's farm on the Lanark road near Middleville. The road to the farmstead wound through a Maple bush which provided maple syrup and maple sugar in springtime. At the rear of the farm was Baxters Lake where fish could be caught when needed. It was my pleasure to know the families of William, David and Alexander. It should be noted that 3 sons volunteered in the first war, one was killed and another incapacitated for life. On Friday evening last, a ball and supper was held at Munbilla, and pased off successfully. A suitable apartment in which to hold the dancing had been secured neasr the Duke of York Hotel, and a sumptous repast was laid
out by Mrs. Boyle, landlady of the hotel. There was a goodly number of the residents in attendanoe, and a pleasant evening was spent. After the supper, dancing was indulged in throughont the night, good violin music being provided. The gathering broke up at an early hour in the morning, when all those present left for their homes, highly elated with the night's festivities.

I hear that Mr. J. H. Boyle, of Munbilla, has purchased the well-known racehorse Hector II. as a sire for the coming season. The horse was taken to Munbilla on Thursday morning last. Hector II is a well.bred animal, got by Kingfish from Hecuba, and has fair size and substance to recommend him,
beside a racing career, he being at one time a first-class six-furlong horse. He will do stud duty in the Fassifern district during the approaching season.

?/i?Mungo Alexander Boyle was remembered in an article published in a local Australian newspaper in 1931 as having an injured foot 'through having chopped it while falling scrub in Canada'. (actually in Queensland)

The father died at Ipswich. He came from Canada with his brothers James, Robert, John and Munga. The latter had an injured foot. The other brothers were pioneers of Harrisville district and lived long and useful lives. He was a great friend of John Hooper, father of Mrs. E. McLean of Boonah and May who married John Vardon, a selector of Milora.

?/i?Their youngest son, Mungo and his wife Sarah Watson, an Irish lass, continued to farm at Kelvin Grove and reared eleven children there. Their children married members of other pioneering families and have been a part of the history of Harrisville. Ernest, Harriet and Olive remained single and llived at Kelvin Grove till their deaths. They were involved in the local church, School of Arts and other organizations.

Mary, Mungo and John Mason Miller are the only family members mentioned in John's letters in 1870 to his twin brother Andrew Burns Miller.

(Medical):My grandfather Boyle had a severe accident. He was using an adze to trim a log and a chip of wood stuck to the corner of the adze and caused it to glance off and nearly severed his foot across the instep. Remarkably, I think there was an old army doctor in Ipswich and he came out and did what he could but grandfather always had a lame foot, his foot wouldn't go flat on the ground, so he always was handicapped by his damaged foot.

THE LATE MR. MUNGO BOYLE. MILORA, August 4. There passed away at his residence at Hillgrove, on Saturday, July 26, an old identity of the Harrisville district, the late Mr. Mungo Boyle, in his 90th year. The late Mr. Boyle was born in Lanack, Canada, in the year 1841, and his early manhood was spent among the Canadian hills. For many years he was engaged in felling timber and rafting it down the rivers to the sawmilling settlements. At the age of 24 he came to Australia, landing in Brisbane in February, 1866. Almost immediately he came to Harrisville, where an elder brother had already selected the piece of land which has since remained the home of the Boyle family. In 1871 he married Miss Sarah Watson, who died 12 years ago. The late Mr. Boyle leaves five sons and five daughters, 19 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Of a happy, genial, disposition, the late Mr. Boyle was a friend to all, and in return was beloved by all. He passed peacefully away in his own home, nursed by loving daughters. His remains were in-terred in the Harrisville Cemetery, on Sunday afternoon, July 27, in the presence of a large crowd of mourners.

Elizabeth Mason Miller died on 27 January 1850 after giving birth to twin sons who were born and baptised on 9 January 1950. She ws the daughter of Robert Mason and Helen Gourlay who had immigrated to Canda at the same time as the Miller family.

Andrew Burns Miller was raised by his uncle George Miller in Bathurst Township, Canada West (Lanark County, Ontario, Canada). John Mason Miller was raised by his aunt Janet (Mrs. Robert Boyle) and went to Australia with them in the 1860's. John Mason Miller travelled to Ipswich Reserve, Australia with the Boyle family on the Golden City, arriving on 5 February 1866. The Boyle family settled on the Ipswich Agricultural Reserve in the Fassifern Valley near Brisbane Queensland. John Mason Miller was 16 years of age when he arrived in Queensland.

In the 1851 Canada West census ?b?John Mason Miller?/b? is listed twice, once in the household of his father Thomas Miller and secondly in the household of Robert Hendry Boyle.

In 1851 his father, ?b?Thomas Miller?/b?, is 42, member of the Church of Scotland, who is a farmer and lives in a log house. John Mason's siblings are listed as William 18, Robert 16, George 15, Mary 11, Thomas 9, Helen 7, Robertson 6, David 4, and Andrew 2. Margaret Mason, a sister of his mother, age 23, is also listed and has probably assumed the 'mother' role in the household. It is unknown who cared for John Mason during his infancy. Janet, his aunt would have only been eight years older than his father, Thomas, and would have grown up in the same neighbourhood and probably forged a close relationship. Her youngest child Mungo, was six years old so it is not probable that she was able to nurse John Mason as an infant. If he joined her household shortly after birth as the census may indicate, a wet nurse may have been engaged or a sop* used.

Meanwhile (1851), in the Boyle household you have Robert Boyle, age 57, member of the Free Church, a farmer who also lives in a log house. His wife Jannet is a sister of William, father of Thomas, and aged 48. The family members are slightly older; Catherine 26, Mary 24, William 21, John 18, Robert 17, David 15, James 12 and Mungo 10. John Mason is listed as age 3, indicating that the census was taken later in the year.

In 1861, aged 12, John is again listed as a member of this household.

Meanwhile, Andrew Burns Miller is only listed with his father, Thomas Miller's household in 1851. In 1861 Andrew Burns Miller, age 11, is found in the household of George Miller. Other members of the household are George Miller 47, his wife (Helen) Ellen 45, Jane 18, Mary 16, Robert 14, Jennet 12, Margaret 10, William 7, Catherine 5, George 3. Again, it is not known who would have cared for him as an infant unless a wet nurse was engaged or Margaret Mason was able to successful feed him with a sop.

Thomas Miller remarried in 1852. He and his new wife Ann Wilson Donaldson, b circa 1812, had three children, James b. 1853, Jennett b. 1856, and Agnes b. 1860. They appear as part of Thomas Miller's household in 1861 along with children from his first marriage. It appears that the twins, have both been 'adopted' within the extended family shortly after birth or at least by the time that Thomas remarried.

Obituary
In the death of Mr. Thomas R. Bulloch of Hopetown which occurred on Friday, 30th March, Lanark Township and Lanark County lost one of their most enterprising and best known farmers. The late Mr. Bulloch was born near the farm on which he lived and prospered for many years and on which he died. Early in life he married Jane Lochead, daughter of William Lochead, postmaster at Brightside, who preceded him to the grave a little more than three years ago. Some time ago Mr Bullock became aware that he was a victim of diabetes and that it was only a matter of time when he would have to succumb to the effects. About two weeks ago he went to Kingston to consult with eminent physicians there but the treatment being more severe than he could bear he returned home on Tuesday of last week and breathed his last on the following Friday. The funeral, which took place on sunday afternoo, was one of the largest ever seen in that section, as he was known by nearly every one in the county. He was a member of Evergreen Lodge A.M. and A.M., Lanark Village, for many years. He was also a member of the International Order of Foresters in which he carried insurance. At his own request, he was buried with Masonic honors by Evergreen Lodge, assisted by the Masons from Perth, Carleton Place and Almonte to the number of about 60 to the Hopetown Cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs W.C. Caldwell, MPP; T.B. Caldwell, Jas. McFarlane, J.H. Wilson, W.H. McKinley and J.W. Stewart of Evergreen Lodge. The late Mr. Bulloch was one of the most extensive breeders of purebred stock in the county and was a member of the Lanark Township Council for ten consecutive years. Over a year ago he married Miss Agnes Craig who, with a large family, survives him and who will have the deepest sympathy of the whole community in the sad loss of so estimable a husband and father.

Death claimed two old residents of Ingham on Friday within a few hours of each other. Mrs. Mary Hood (77) passed away quietly at her home on Friday morning and although she had been in feeble health for some time she was about as usual in the morning and spoke to her daughter quite cheerfully a few moments before she passed away after retiring to her room. She was one of the early residents of Ingham and was the daughter of Mr. W. Boyle, who brought the first cattle over the range from Cardwell to the Herbert district. She leaves four daughters, two of whom reside in Sydney, one at Bartle Frere (Mrs. J. Prandolini), and one at Ingham (Mrs. J. Moore).

LATE MR. L. M. BOYLE
Mr. Lorenzo Miller Boyle, a well known North Coast resident, who has been in indifferent health for some time past, died in a Nambour private hospital at the age of 74. He was born at Harrisville and in his prime was noted for his powers as a horseman and rider of buckjumpers. During his residence in North Oueensland he engaged in goldmining on the famous Charters Towers field. The late Mr. Boyle also lived at Maleny and in 1923 came with his family to live at Nambour. Latterly he lived first at Glasshouse Mountains, and then at Ilkley, near Eudlo. His wife, whom he married in Charters Towers, pre deceased him by nearly ten years. He leaves five sons, Messrs. William. Henry John, Cecil J., Leonard G., and Alfred C. (Sydney), and also one daughter, Mrs. P. Colless (Nambour).

There is I suppose another possibility

That Drusilla is the daughter of Robert Hendry Boyle married to Janet Jessie Miller and Elizabeth James McManagle daughter of the Lanark Society Settler Robert James 1820.

Elizabeth James Mrs Anthony McManagle is born 1810 Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, Scotland and she is the mother of Elizabeth McManagle sister of Margaret McManagle Mrs. John Hendry Boyle.

I just doubt that Drusilla is the daughter of Robert Hendry Boyle 1795 married to Janet Jessie Miller.

We have Drusilla's birth date. Elizabeth James would be age 56 and Robert Hendry Boyle 1795 would be age 71.

Seems really far fetched to me that he would go stepping out on Janet Jessie Miller in his seventies not to mention Elizabeth James McManagle age at the time of birth.

So I think that is just voodoo. Seems more likely to me that it is Robert Hendry Boyle Junior cavorting with his sister in laws sister.

A very serious accident befell Peter Boyle, aged 16 years, a son of Mr. Robert Hendry Boyle, a farmer, residing at Harrisville, on Thursday afternoon. It appears (says the Ipswich Advocate) that after dinner Boyle went
out to water a couple of horses. On his way he met his cousin, William, who mounted the other steed and they commenced driving some cattle out of a paddock. While doing so, a hare was started, and a chase ensued. During the run William's horse became unmanageable), and ran into the horse that Peter was riding, knocking both to the ground with considerable violence, with the result that Boyle received severe concussion of the brain. The medical superintendent of the hospital has very little hope of his recovery.

The Queenslander, 30 Jun 1894, pg 1245
Peter Boyle, aged 16 years, son of Mr. Robert Hendry Boyle, farmer, of Harrisville, met with a severe accident on Thursday week. Just after dinner on that day he proceeded on horseback to water some horses, and subsequently, in company with his cousin (William Boyle), he gave chase to a hare. William Boyle's horse became unmanageable during the hunt, and collided with Boyle's mount, knockig both horse and rider over, with the result that the latter was injured considerably about the head, sustaining severe concussion of the brain. He was brought dow to Ipswich by the Fassifern evening train, and admitted to the hospital in a perfectly unconscious state.

Alfred James Boyle McIntyre was raised by Sandy McIntyre and Jane Yuill, Ann's parents and he took the McIntyre family name. His mother Ann was the eldest in the family so he grew up with her siblings.

Alfred James Boyle McIntyre and Marion Gemmill Lawson had 8 children.

(Research):lylemagnuson talent: Apparently Alfred was very musical. He performed and recorded square dance music. He played on the CBC radio in Regina, Saskatchewan and according to George W. McIntyre he thinks Don Messer may have recorded some of his music.

Alfred's mother Ann died while giving birth to him. He was then raised by his grandparents Alexander &Jane McIntyre. It appears that he must have been adopted by his grandparents and thus took the McIntyre name. The information regarding Ann's death and his grandparents raising him was in Alexander's obituary (Lanark Era of Wed. Nov 3, 1897, pg 34).

I have just spent a very intense week of long days chasing the Boyles around Queensland! It prepared me for looking at possibilities today when I came back to Lanark and couldn't find a registered birth, baptism or marriage record. I'm thinking there is more to this story! I think the cemetery stone is the McIntyre family making the best of a bad situation!

My impression is that the Boyle men were a pretty raucous lot and I'm wondering if the departure for Australia was entirely voluntary. I'm wondering if the son who went to Scotland to settle family affairs was running to keep ahead of pioneer justice. The story in Australia suggest that there were misadventures there as well.

I have most of the Queensland connection mapped out and thought it wouldn't take too long to work down Alfred's line. HA!! I still have JOHN Miller's line to enter and I will finally have a fairly complete framework for that branch.

I have a lot of the info you sent but I will go through the detail tomorrow. Distracted by the skating tonight!

Do you have any 'way back' pictures for these people?

Glad you gave me some detail on Alf. How many of the kids were his? I need to reread some of the stories I read today now . Was Marion a serial wife? One story says she was from Carleton Place and another says she move to the prairies from the states claiming land by proxy on behalf of Robert.

I think I will be bouncing some stories with you over the next few days!

Anyways, Marion was born in Middleville on the Lawson lands. That is definite.

Marion goes with her parents Robert Lawson and Lilly Campbell and her siblings to Pilot Mound. They go in a group with others from Middleville. You realize that some of these people we are talking about are buried in the Mather cemetery.

Maybe it is time for another Last Duel Lager ?

Actually, Marion returns to Middleville to get her grandfather my 3 great blood Uncle when he is upwards of 80 years of age and widowed. They take him to Pilot Mound and he dies there. The transcription in Lanark is all TRUE BULL.

My one Lawson cousin in the United States belongs directly to this family and another one of my Mitchell cousins who lives in Edmonton is also connected to this family as well.

Marion had one child with the other husband born in 1914
Marion's second husband does not even come to Canada until 1910 and her youngest child with Alfred James Boyle McIntyre is born in 1906.
