    Died:
    Clyde Randolph Burns, of Columbia, devoted husband to the late Emmie Gibson Burns, died April 3, 2012.

    Born on September 22, 1922 in Charleston, he was a son of the late Allan Smarte and Adela G. Richter Burns.

    Mr. Burns attended the College of Charleston where he met his wife of 64 years.

    He retired after 30 years of service at Southern Bell Telephone Company. He was a lifetime member and past president of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a former member and past president of the Columbia Gem and Mineral Society.

    Mr. Burns was proud of the 10 years he devoted to Boy Scouting as scoutmaster of Troup 4 at St. Martin's in the Field Episcopal Church, where he and his wife were charter members.

    He and his family were avid campers and loved the outdoors and spent quality time at their lake property. He never met a stranger and will always be known for his kindness, generosity and gift of conversation. He was active in the life of his church - St. Michael's and All Angels.

    He was predeceased by his brother, Edmund Allan Burns.

    A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., April 6, 2012, at Saint Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church with burial in the church cemetery.
