    ?/u?At Perth, on Thursday, January 7th, Mary Eliza Dodds, wife of the late Robert Miller, at her home on D'Arcy Street. Daughter of the late Ralph Dodds, who came from Coldstream, Scotland in 1831, with his parents.

    After his (Ralph Dodds) marriage to Louise McKay, he moved to Flamboro Township, where Mrs. Miller was born, then to the Scotch Line, from there to Glen Tay, where she resided until her marriage to Robert Miller in 1882. They lived at Bathurst Con 2 Lot8 until 1909 when they moved back to Glen Tay. She moved to Perth after her husband's death.

    She leaves two sons, Herbert of Glen Tay and Mervyn of Perth and four daughters, Ella, Mrs. John Armour; Louise, Mrs. Alex Armour; Mabel, Mrs. Delbert Chaplin of Glen Tay; and Jean Miller of Perth.

    She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Louise (Dodds) Miller of Crookston, MN and one brother, Matthew of Brockville.

    She was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Lily Rudsdale of Bathurst and Mrs. Robert Miller of Rideau Ferry, three brothers, Alex of Loreburn, SK, John of Toronto and James of Hamilton.

    At Perth, on Thursday, January 7th, Mary Eliza Dodds, wife of the late Robert Miller, at her home on D'Arcy Street. Daughter of the late Ralph Dodds, who came from Coldstream, Scotland in 1831, with his parents.

    After his (Ralph Dodds) marriage to Louise McKay, he moved to Flamboro Township, where Mrs. Miller was born, then to the Scotch Line, from there to Glen Tay, where she resided until her marriage to Robert Miller in 1882. They lived at Bathurst Con 2 Lot8 until 1909 when they moved back to Glen Tay. She moved to Perth after her husband's death.

    Tayside Farm was the home of my grandmother Mary Eliza Dodds who came here from the Scotch Line as a young girl. My great grandfather Ralph Dodds purchased the east part of lot 20 concession 2 in Bathurst from Captain Josuah Adams in the 1850's. The current board and batten framed structure was built in 1859. It is reported that my grandmother's sister Lily Dodds was carried into the house as a baby. The present boundaries of the farm include that portion of the above lot extending from the second line to South street in the village of Glen Tay comprising some 47 acres. It also includes those parts of lots 21 and 22 lying between the Tay river and the second concession of Bathurst with some forty acres of marsh land in Grants Creek.

    Tayside Farm was the home of my grandmother Mary Eliza Dodds who came here from the Scotch Line as a young girl. My great grandfather Ralph Dodds purchased the east part of lot 20 concession 2 in Bathurst from Captain Josuah Adams in the 1850's. The current board and batten framed structure was built in 1859. It is reported that my grandmother's sister Lily Dodds was carried into the house as a baby. The present boundaries of the farm include that portion of the above lot extending from the second line to South street in the village of Glen Tay comprising some 47 acres. It also includes those parts of lots 21 and 22 lying between the Tay river and the second concession of Bathurst with some forty acres of marsh land in Grants Creek.

    Glen Tay Couple and Son Killed in Train Crash at Perth
    Perth, April 24 (Special)
    A young Glen Tay couple and their 15 months old son were killed here Sunday night when their light truck was hit by a CPR freight train at the Wilson street crossing.

    Dead are Gordon Chaplin, 27, his wife Lorna, 25, and their infant son, Brent.

    Facing Strong Sun
    Mr Chaplin ws driving west out of Perth and was facing a strong setting sun, which may have blinded him in the autyomatic wig-wag signal at the crossing.

    The truck was half-way over the crossing when hit with grinding force by the heavy locomotive. It was thrown 45 feet in the air, landing in the ditch at the side of the track, demolished.

    Skid marks from the truck were plainly visible in the middle of the railway line.

    The infant was thrown out of the vehicle onto the the front of the engine, which stopped about 400 yards west of the collision at the Drummond street crossing. The body, noticed when the engineer brought the train to a halt, was taken from the front of the engine before the train backed up and was carried to the CPR station.'

    Mr. Chaplin, killed instantly, was found in the cab of the upturned wreck of the truck. His wife, still breathing, was found lying on the ground beside the demolished pickup. She died in the ambulance while being rushed to Perth Memorial Hospital.

    A coroner's jury was imp immediately in view of the bodies. Then the inquest was adjourned and will continue May 3.

    Signal Operating
    The crossing wig-wag and automatic bell were both operating when the collision occurred, police said. The freight, with Conductor W. Kimberlay, was east-bound at the time. The truck, in which the Chaplins and their son were returning to Glen Tay after spending the day in Perth, was travelling in a northerly direction.

    Gordon Chaplin was well known in Perth and district. He was prominent in hockey and softball circles and was a member of the Perth Kinsmen.

    With his brothers, John and Don, he conducted Chaplin's Dairy at Glen Tay and also operated a milk route in Perth.

    Mrs Chaplin was the former Lorna Korry, of Bathurst, a daughter of Mr and Mrs John Korry. Besides her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Arthur of Oshawa and Clyde at home. Mr Chaplin is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs Delbert Chaplin, of Glen Tay, three brothers, Cameron of Toronto, Don and John of Glen Tay; three sisters, Mrs John O'Gorman, Perth;, Miss Betty, Perth; and Miss Winnifred, attending Toronto University.

    MILLER, Dr. Robert (Bob) Richard, DVM On April 6th, with family at his side, Bob passed away in his 79th year at St. Patrick's Nursing Home. Beloved husband of Evelyn (Tullis) for 55 years. Loving father of Janice (Nelson Edwards), Joanne (Jeff Clark) and Wendy (Tim Turner). Cherished "Gramps" of Julie & Scott Clark, and Simon & Ben Turner. Dear brother of Ethel (& late Jim Butterill) and nephews Bob and Bruce Butterill. Bob was a veterinarian, a graduate of the University of Guelph in 1948, who practiced in the Kingston area prior to joining Agriculture Canada, Health of Animals Branch.     John Miller, co-owner of Tayside Farms near Perth, Ontario, passed away suddenly at his Kincardine cottage on Friday May 2nd, 2014.

    He was a leader in the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, Lennox and Addington Insurance and many agricultural organizations. John was partner and best friend to Karen (Middleton) Miller, beloved father to Christopher (Cherith Hyndman) and Melissa (Gonzalo Gutierrez). Cherished grandpa to Lucia and Cecilia. He will be sadly missed by family Diane Duncan (Don), Nancy Miller Chenier (John), Ruth Miller Baker, Bobbie Law (Gordon), Jim Middleton (Crystal Cannon), Bruce Middleton (Debbie), Elizabeth Porath and Christine Zacodnik (Allan). He leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins and friends with fond memories. John was predeceased by his parents J.R. Ernest Miller and Evelyn Miller.

    Gary passed away in hospital in Perth on Friday, June 28, 2019 following a short battle with cancer. Son of Doris (Gamble) Chaplin and the late Donald Chaplin. Predeceased by his wife Patricia M. Warren-Chaplin. Survived by his brother Grant (late Carole) Chaplin, his niece Christa (Jeff) Turcotte and his nephew James (Amber) Chaplin. Gary was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, Honours Arts program and the University of Ottawa Law Program. He practiced law in Perth for 43 years and was the sole proprietor of Rubino and Chaplin following the death of his law partner Tony Rubino. Gary always described himself as a "Small Town Lawyer". His wisdom and guidance will be missed by many. He will be sadly missed by all his breakfast, golf, hunting and fishing buddies whom he cherished dearly. Those wishing to make donations in his memory, may do so to The Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation, Perth, or to the Canadian Cancer Society "Wheels of Hope". Following cremation, a private service will be held in Elmwood Cemetery where Gary will be placed with his late wife Patricia. Our family would like to thank Dr. M. Lai, Sandy Shaw and all the nursing staff at the Great War Memorial Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during Gary's struggle against the effects of cancer. Thank you to all his friends who visited him in hospital, as your companionship eased his pain and suffering.

    Glen Tay Couple and Son Killed in Train Crash at Perth
    Perth, April 24 (Special)
    A young Glen Tay couple and their 15 months old son were killed here Sunday night when their light truck was hit by a CPR freight train at the Wilson street crossing.

    Dead are Gordon Chaplin, 27, his wife Lorna, 25, and their infant son, Brent.

    Facing Strong Sun
    Mr Chaplin ws driving west out of Perth and was facing a strong setting sun, which may have blinded him in the autyomatic wig-wag signal at the crossing.

    The truck was half-way over the crossing when hit with grinding force by the heavy locomotive. It was thrown 45 feet in the air, landing in the ditch at the side of the track, demolished.

    Skid marks from the truck were plainly visible in the middle of the railway line.

    The infant was thrown out of the vehicle onto the the front of the engine, which stopped about 400 yards west of the collision at the Drummond street crossing. The body, noticed when the engineer brought the train to a halt, was taken from the front of the engine before the train backed up and was carried to the CPR station.'

    Mr. Chaplin, killed instantly, was found in the cab of the upturned wreck of the truck. His wife, still breathing, was found lying on the ground beside the demolished pickup. She died in the ambulance while being rushed to Perth Memorial Hospital.

    A coroner's jury was imp immediately in view of the bodies. Then the inquest was adjourned and will continue May 3.

    Signal Operating
    The crossing wig-wag and automatic bell were both operating when the collision occurred, police said. The freight, with Conductor W. Kimberlay, was east-bound at the time. The truck, in which the Chaplins and their son were returning to Glen Tay after spending the day in Perth, was travelling in a northerly direction.

    Gordon Chaplin was well known in Perth and district. He was prominent in hockey and softball circles and was a member of the Perth Kinsmen.

    With his brothers, John and Don, he conducted Chaplin's Dairy at Glen Tay and also operated a milk route in Perth.

    Mrs Chaplin was the former Lorna Korry, of Bathurst, a daughter of Mr and Mrs John Korry. Besides her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Arthur of Oshawa and Clyde at home. Mr Chaplin is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs Delbert Chaplin, of Glen Tay, three brothers, Cameron of Toronto, Don and John of Glen Tay; three sisters, Mrs John O'Gorman, Perth;, Miss Betty, Perth; and Miss Winnifred, attending Toronto University.
