    John Barber
    The death of John Barber occurred at his home in Calander on Thursday, July 25th, after a prolonged illness.
    Mr. Barber was born near Perth, Ontario, May 6, 1858, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Barber. He came to Northern Ontario in 1878. At first he engaged in lumbering and later took up a homestead six miles from Nipissing village. He was married 54 years ago to the former Julia Stillar of Smiths Falls.
    Besides his wife, Mr. Barber is survived by six sons, William of Powassan, Wellesley of Timmins, Donald of Nipissing, Laughlin of Golden City, Gordon of North Bay and Harry of Callander; also five daughters, Mrs. A. Campbell, Nipissing; Mrs. James Eckford, Timmins; Mres. K. Purdon, Powassan; Mres. Claude Mills and Mrs. Eric Briggs, Callander; a sister, Mrs. Wm. Calder of Callander, and a brother, Thos. Barber of Nipissing.
    All were home for the funeral, which was held on Saturday afternoon from his late residence in Callander to Nipissing Junction cemetery. The Rev. Mr. Mustard of Toronto was the officiating minister. The pall-bearers were a brother-in-law, Ab. Campbell, K. Purdon, Jas. Eckford, Claude Mills and Eric Briggs.

    John married Julia Margaret Stillar on 11 Feb 1892 in Hotham, Gurd Twp, Parry Sound District, Ontario, Canada. Julia (daughter of George Stillar and Julia Ann Manion) was born on 12 May 1876 in Maberly, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 8 Feb 1961 in Trout Creek, Parry Sound District, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Nipissing Junction Union Cemetery, Nipissing District, Ontario, Canada.     A Nipissing resident all her life, Ruby M. Campbell of Callander, died Tuesday at Stonehouse Nursing Home in Trout Creek after a lengthy illness. She was 82.
    A funeral service will be conducted at the Paul Chapel Thursday at 2 pm by Rev. Robert Jackson. Interment will be at the Nipissing Cemetery.
    Born Aug 6, 1892, in Hotham, Ont.m, Mrs. Camppbell was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Barber.
    Mrs. Campbell married Albert Campbell Dec. 21, 1910 in Powassan, Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last December.
    Mrs. Campbell was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Jim Eckford (Earlene) and three infants, and is survived by her husband, four sons, Clinton at home; Jimmy of Callanader; Lloyd of Sudbury, and John of Toronto, seven daughters, Mrs. Elwood Bartraw (Evelyn) of Powassan, Mrs. Percy McLachlan (Blancke) of Sudbury, Mrs. Bernie Meehan (Elsie) of North Bay, Mrs. Jack Adamson (Dorothy) of Toronto, Mrs. George Good (Jean) of Guelph, June of Toronto and Joan, at home; six brothers, William of Powassan, Wellesly and Harry of Callander, Donald of Hotham, Gordon of North Bay, and Laughlan of Matheson; and three sisters, Mrs. Ken Purdon (Jessie), Mrs. Eric Briggs (Alice) both of Powassan and Mrs. Claude Mills (Maudie) of Callander.

    At St. Joseph's Hospital, Monday, January 7, 1980, (Wellesley) Albert Andrew Wellington Barber, beloved husband of Emma Simpson, in his 83rd year. Member of the Golden Beaver Lodge No. 528, in Timmins. Member of the North Bay Chapter of the Scottish Rite. Resting at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan, Tuesday from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9pm Service in the Chapel on Wednesday, January 9, 1980, at 2 pm. Interment at the Nipissing Village Cemetery. Donations to the Ontario Heart Foundation would be appreciated.

    Callander residdent Albert Andrew Wellinton (Wellesley) Barber died suddenly Monday at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was 82.
    Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Charles Graham Wednesday at Paul Funeral Home Chapel, Powassan. Interment was at Nipissing Cemetery.
    Born March 11, 1897 in Nipissing, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Barber.
    Surviving Mr. Barber is his wife Emma Simpson, whom he married in 1934 in North Bay.
    While residing in Timmins, Mr Barber was a member of the Golden Beaver Lodge, No. 528. He was also a member of the North Bay Chapter of Scottish Rite.
    Mr. Barber was a retired service station operator and lumberman. He attended Knox United Chulrch, Callander.
    Two sons survive: Roland, Kapuskasing; and Bruce, North Bay. Four grandchildren also survive.
    Surviving are five brothers: William, Powassan; Donald, Nipissing, Gordon, North Bay; Lauthlin, Matheson; and Harry, Callander.
    Three sisters survive: Mrs Kenneth Purdon (Jessie), Powassan; Mrs. Claud Mills (Maudie), Callander; and Mrs. Eric Briggs (Alice), Powassan.
    Honorary pallbearers were: Jim, Clarke, John, Tom, Norman, Wilmer, Jim, Barclay Barber, Ronnie Briggs and Lloyd Campbell.

    Don was born on a farm near Kings corners in Nipissing Township, the 6th of 14 children of Julia (Stillar) and John Barber. He used to walk into Hotham to attend school. As he grew older he would help his father thrashing grain in the fall and then worked at Zubrich's sawmill. at one time he ran the Nipissing Hotel while he also operated a 30 foot charter boat taking fishing trips and cargo between Chapman's Landing on Lake Nipissing and Keystone Lodge on the French River.
    On November 12, 1924 Don married Hazel Clarke at St. Albans Anglican Church in Restoule.
    He took his family to live at Lost Channel, near Port Loring on the Pickerel River system while he worked for the Lands & Forests. Returning to Hotham in 1935 Don owned a sawmill which he ran until he turned his attention to farming. At one point he took delivery of a steam operated tractor which weighed over 7 tons and took him two days to drive it to his farm.
    After the children had all grown up Don's dogs and cows became like family to him. One dog rode on his lap while he drove the tractor until one day the hay bailer caught fire and the dog ran straight home. Another dog used to accompany him to his watch on the deer hunt and one day a bear approached them and swatted the dog as it attacked the bear. Don shot the bear at a time when he would rather look at the animals than shoot them. He huntted until he was eighty. Don played the violin and would accompany Hazel on the organ for family hymn sings.

    MILLS, May Maude "Maudie"
    Peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Monday May 23, 2016, while in her 98th year. Maudie (nee Barber) was the loving and devoted wife, for 55 years, of the late Claude Herbert Mills. The loving mother of a daughter and son-in-law in North Bay, and a daughter and son-in-law of Callander. Gramma held a special place in the hearts of her nine grandchildren and her 13 great grandchildren. One of the 14 children of the late John Barber and Julia (Stillar) Barber, Maudie was predeceased by all of her siblings: Ruby Campbell, William, Wellesley, Donald, Gordon, and Laughlin Barber, Earlene Eckford, Jessie Purdon, Harry, and Alice Briggs, infant brother Tommy, and infant sisters Mernie and Elizabeth.
    A long time active member of St Peter's Anglican Church, Callander, and the ACW, Maudie and Claude were married there on November 29, 1941.
    Friends were invited to call at the Martyn Funeral Home on Thursday May 26th. Funeral services were held in the funeral Home chapel on Friday morning, May 27th. Interment followed in Terrace Lawn Cemetery. If desired donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation Pediatric Unit or the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
