    Laura E. Hess, 88, Bettendorf, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Iowa Masonic Home, Bettendorf.

    A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, Davenport. No visitation will be held. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Ind. Runge Mortuary, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.

    She was born on June 1, 1912, Ontario, Canada. She was a daugher of William and Louise Mae (Young) Miller. she married Sylvester Hess in 1937 in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada. He preceded her in death in 1967.

    Mrs. Hess previously was employed as a Nurses Aide for Homemaker Services in Davenport. She retired in 1972. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and the Davenport Women's Club and had served as secretary for the Davenport Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyted working crossword puzzles.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

    Survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Padgett, Evansville, Ind., sons David Hess, Pleasant Valley, Iowa, George W. Hess,Davenport, and Dr Jerry Hess, Bettendorf.; eight grandchildren' and three great grandchildren. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Roy.

    Laura married Sylvester N. Hess in 1937 in Cobourg, Northumberland County, Ontario, Canada. Sylvester (son of George Hess and Carrie Sheasley) was born on 10 Apr 1894 in Pennsylvania, United States; died on 24 Feb 1967 in Valier, Franklin County, Illinois, United States; was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, United States.     Following a short illness in Kingston, on Wednesday July 12th, Howard James McGregor at the age of 80. Much loved husband of Betty (Chaplin) McGregor. Son of the late John D. & Jessie (McTavish) McGregor. Much loved father of Jim (Pam) McGregor and Mary (George) Oliver. Loved grandfather of Beth, Kate, Mark and Neil McGregor, Jennie, Chrissie, John and Derek Oliver. Dear brother of Donald (Margaret) McGregor and Jean (Sidney) Mooney. Brother-in-law of John, Cameron and Donald (Doris) Chaplin, Wynne (Al) Chaffee and the late Helen O'Gorman-Code and Gordon Chaplin. He will be sadly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

    Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth on Friday July 14th, 2006 from 2 - 4 P.M. and 7 - 9 P.M. Funeral service will be held in the Balderson United Church on Saturday July 15th at 1 P.M. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Perth. In remembrance donations to the Balderson United Church or the G.W.M. Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

    Sylvia Mae Padgett, 76, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at her home. She was born June 26, 1938 in Long Island, NY to the late Sylvester N. and Laura E. (Miller) Hess. She worked at Holiday Nursing Home and Deaconess Hospital, in food services for 26 years. She loved her five cats and her dog, Jessie.
    Sylvia is survived by three brothers,
