Hi Diane, I am glad you wrote and glad to make your acquaintance! . My younger brother, Jack, (legal name John) has lived and worked in the Whitby Ontario area since 1969, and he is the person who set up and monitors this web site. He has done a lot of work on it!! I just look at it once in awhile, and make a few additions as they come to me. My Dad's mother was a Callander and I wish I had recorded information about family from when I was a a little guy. I know my family on my Dad's came from southern Ontario area, and my brother Jack would know the connections. I will let him know you wrote and hopefully you can connect with him. He is a great guy! :) I live on the west coast on Vancouver Island, in Nanaimo. We grew up on Grandpa Ballard's farm in southwestern Manitoba, and I moved west in 1974. Hi Donald,
The Callanders originally settled near North Gower, just on the edge of Ottawa but were Lanark Society Settlers in Dalhousie/Lanark Township before that, arriving in 1820-21 with the Miller family members. I have just recently tracked Janet (Janette) who married John Callander and have much of her family history detail as she was a daughter of William Miller and Margaret Burns. Her brother George married Helen Mason my 2x great grandparents.
My husband and I lived near or in Almonte most of our married lives and I was born in Perth, Ontario. Long story but we traveled for four years in a motorhome and then in 2012, settled in Calgary near one of our sons. I am excited to make contact as you are the first from Janette's family line.
