    Rev. Andrew Baird Dies
    Manitobal College Professor was Aged 85 - Winnipeg, September 22.
    Rev. Andrew Browning Baird, 85, professor of church history at Manitoba Colledgee, died here today.

    Dr. Baird was the first moderator of the Manitoba Conference of the United Church of Canada after the unio of the Presbyterian and Methodist churches. During his long career with the Church, he held all the regular posts of service, serving on many boards and committees of the various church courts. He also served as convenor of the committee dealing with the administration.

    After a period in th minisry, Dr. Baird began his educational work, teaching classes at Manitoba College for more than 40 years.

    Dr Baird was born in Perth County, Ontario, in 1885. He was graduated in arts from the University of Toronto and later studied theology at Knox College, University of Toronto. He spent a year in Glasgow and Edinburgh at post graduate work and then returned to Canada and began his work with the church at Edmonton.

    His wife, formerly Penelope Campbell of Galt, Ont., died in 1936. Three daughters survive, all of Winnipeg. A son, Andrew, was killed in the Great War.

    Agnes Browning Baird
    On October 9th, 1969 at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Agnes Browning Baird, daughter of the late Professor Andrew B. Baird, formerly of Manitoba Colledge and Augustine United Church.

    She was born in Winnipeg and served in the First World War with the Canadian Army Medical Corps, No. 4, Toronto Unit. She spent one and a half years in salonika and Malta and three years in France. She also saw service on the hospital ships traveling the Atlantic. After a short period with the Victorian Order of Nurses she went to China in 1928 under the auspices of the Rockefeller Foundation. She joined the staff of the Peiping Union Medical College as teaching supervisor. She was making good progress with the language when her health deteriorated and after two years found it necessary to return to Canada.

    She is survived by one sister, Marjorie, of Victoria, B.C.

    Memorial service October 18th in St. Vital United Church.

    Born in Winnipeg on the 31st December 1891, Andrew Baird was the son of Rev. Dr. Andrew Browning Baird and Penelope Campbell Baird, of 247, Colony St, Winnipeg, Manitoba. His father was a Presbyterian Minister & Acting Principal of Manitoba College.

    Andrew had attended Manitoba College and attained a B.A. He was not married. His occupation was listed as Barrister on his Attestation papers when he enlisted in Winnipeg on the 1st November 1915. Originally with the 90th Battalion he transferred to the 14th Battalion.

    Andrew was killed in action on the 8th August 1918. The casualty report records:
    During the attack made by his Battalion in the vicinity of Demuin, this Officer was killed by an enemy shell just after leaving the "jumping off" place

    Andrew is commemorated on the Augustine Church First World War Memorial, Winnipeg, Manitoba and on the University of Manitoba Roll of Honour 1914-1918 in Winnipeg,
