    Andrew's parents were Joseph Bowen and Agnes Baird.
    Joseph was a pioneer arriving in California in the early 1850's who settled in Marysville and followed the shoe making trade. This couple had ten children, three who died at a young age. Given that Andrew was born in Canada, his mother must have been visiting family there when he was born.
    Andrew was located in the 1880 Marysville,Yuba County census as a young boy living with his parents and eight siblings. In the 1930 Marysville, Yuba County census he was working as a carpenter building houses living in a boarding house.

    Died:
    Mrs. Margaret M. Smith, who died Sunday at a Portland private sanitarium, was the only life member of the Portland chapter of American Gold Star Mothers. She was a charter member of the organization and first vice-president when illness prevented her further participation.

    Funeral of Mrs. Verna Henrietta Smith, 53, who died Sunday at her home, 2745 N.E. 32d place, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Pearson funeral church.

    A native of LaCrosse, Wis., Mrs. Smith had lived in Portland since 1922. She is survived by her widower. Henry B. Smith; a son, William Charles Smith, Portland, and a daughter, Mrs. Janet Marion Nicholson, Grants Pass. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian church and Portland chapter No. 97 of the Order of Eastern Star.
