    One of the brothers was minister at the Baptist Church in Middleville, another in Carleton Place. It is believed that all four brothers eventually went to the United States.

    This was the lot assigned to James and Janet but James drowned on the way to Lanark County. His son John was eighteen at the time and although the minimum age for receiving land was nineteen he was permitted to take on the lot that would have gone to his father. Neighbours helped the young people to get established and it was left to the older girls to care for the house and younger siblings.
