    Mourn Passing Of William Balfour - Mr. William Balfour passed away in the Ontario Hospital, Kingston, on May 14th, 1952 in his 81st year. The deceased was the elder son of the late Robert Balfour and his wife Agnes Lockhart and was born at Elphin, where he spent his entire life. In February, 1897 he was married to Mary Ellen Brownlee, who predeceased him in January, 1949. Surviving are six sons: Robert of Elphin; John, Niagara Falls, USA; Thomas of Perth; George of Napanee; Lawrence of Crosby; Roy of London, Ont., and by four daughters: Agnes (Mrs. C. Pratt) of Perth; Margaret (Mrs. William Dowdall), Elphin; Emma (Mrs R.B. McDonell) of Pickle Crow and Tena of Toronto. Also one brother, James of Perth and a sister Emma (Mrs. R.A. Wilson), Smiths Falls. Fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild remain. The funeral service was held on May 17 from the home of Mrs. William Dowdall, to Elphin Presbyterian Church, Rev. McNaught of Lanark officiating. Interment was in Crawford Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mervil Brownlee, Gordon Brownlee, Mac Brownlee, Burns Wilson, Jack Wilson and Haddon Wilson. The flower-bearers were Edith Pratt, Kenneth Dowdall, Kathleen Gemmill, Jean Fournier, Faye Oxtobee and Leonard Gemmill. His family very deeply appreciates all the lovely flowers, the numerous and varied acts of kindness of neighbours and friends during his illness, and at the time of his death.

    Mabel was born in North Sherbrooke Township, Lanark County, on Feb.1,1883, the daughter of Thomas Easton & Hannah Balfour. She was married to Wm. Henry Murray, June 3,1903 in Dalhousie Township, Lanark County. She died in Lavant Township in Lanark County on April 29,1908, at the age of 28 years. She died from Bright's Disease following pregnacy. She was living at Lot 17, Con 5 of Lavant. A death notice in the Lanark Era Newspaper, issue of Apr.29,1908, says " at Caldwells Mills, Thursday, April 24th, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Murray." It appears Mabel died 5 days after the death of an infant son. I could not find a birth or death registration for this baby.
