    Death of Mr, D. McDonald.
    The death of Mr. Duncan McDonald, which occurred at his home in Dalhousie, on Wednesday last, after an illness of about a year, has caused a feeling of the deepest regret throughout the whole township, where nearly fifty years of his life were spent. He was born on Oct. 25th, 1831, on the farm in Bathurst township, near Playfair, where his nephew, Mr. Peter McDonald, now resides. When quite young he engaged as an apprentice at the shoemaking business with the late Wm. Clcndenning at Fallbrook. After serving his time, and working at his trade around the neighbourhood for a while he moved to Dalhousie and purchased a lot from his brother Alex., who at that time owned the land on which the village of McDonald's Corners now stands, and from whom the place got its name.
    There he erected the building now occupied by Mr. Andrew Ranger and started a shoemaking shop, which he conducted for about fifteen years. After disposing of his property in McDonald's Corners he purchased the farm on the 9th line, where the remainder of his days were spent in tilling the soil.

    Before moving to McDonald's Corners he was married to Susan Cameron (sister of Mr. Thos. G. Cameron of this place), who survives, together with ten children five boys and five girls. Four of the daughters Mary, Sarah, Susan and Agnes are married and reside in Michigan. Isabella lives with her brother Benjamin on the homestead; Neil amd John In Dalhousie; Duncan, near Ardoch ; and Robert, in Michigan. Three of deceased's brothers and two sisters survive him - Alexander, in Dalhousie ; Hugh, Fallbrook; Peter, Brussels, Ont; Mrs.Jas. Lees, Fallbrook and Mrs. Elliott, Michigan.

    Deceased took an active interest in municipal affairs, and for seven years served in the capacity of councillor so faithfully that he was promoted, two years ago, to of the highest office in the gift of the people - that of Reeve - and which he occupied at teh time of his death. In his younger days Mr. McDonald followed the standard of the Conservative party, but latterly embraced the principles enunciated by the Reformers, and supported their candidates. He was a member of Snow Road Presbyterian Church, and one of the first to become initiated into membership in Cornucopia Lodge, No. 299, I.O.O.F., at McLaren's Depot. This is the first death to take place in that lodge since it aria instituted nearly eight years ago, and the funeral on Friday to Highland Line Cemetery was conducted by its members, who attended in a body. In the absence of Rev. Jas. Binnie, the Rev. M. McGillivray, of Kingston, officiated at the house and also at the grave. The widow and family have the sincere sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

    John McDonald died 22 July 1922 of Diabetes, on his death certificate he was listed as a carpenter.
    John was son of John McDonald and Maria Rogers of McDonald's Corners, Ontario.
    On 25 Dec 1895 he married Catherine "Kate" Deachman Munro at Ardoch, Ontario.
    John and Kate farmed on Con 7, Lot 25 of Clarendon Twp, at Ardoch, Ontario then by 1921 they had moved to Fort William, Ontario. According to the book "Away Back in Clarendon and Miller" by Charles A. Armstrong: John had moved from McDonald's Corners, Ontario to Ardoch to work on the log drives of the upper Mississippi River where in 1895 he married Catherine "Kate" Munro who had also moved with her parents from McDonald's Corners. They lived on a farm on Con 7, Lot 25 of Clarendon, Twp and had eight children: Lorne, Russell, Hugh John, Earl, Viola, Flossie, Nuel and William. In 1911 the family moved to Fort William, Ontario. A few years later son Lorne moved back to Ardoch, Ontario and married Olive Gertrude Watkins and raised a family there. There are still descendants of Lorne and Olive's living in the Ardoch area today.

    Charles was born in Fallbrook, Ontario, Canada, son of Hugh McDonald and Agnes McKinnon. He was involved in the lumber industry all his life. In 1890 he married Jessie McDonnell who was born in Avonmore, Ontario, Canada.

    Rosary for Charles McDonald, 84 years old, a Washington resident since 1891 will be said at 8 o'clock tonight in Assumption Church. Requiem Mass will be said at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning in the same church, with burial in Calvary under the direction of Joseph R. Manning and Sons. Mr McDonald died Monday.

    Mr. McDonald, a retired log scaler, was born in Ontario, Canada. He came west to Port Blakely, Bainbridge Island in 1891 and worked in a mill there. In 1915 he came to Seattle. He lived in the St. Vincent Home for the Aged.

    Mrs. Viola Holgate, aged 78 years, resident of 205 Grey Street, died in hospital early Wednesday morning March 9, 1983. Born in Ardoch, Ontario, the former Viola McDonald, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack McDonald, she was married to Cyril Holgate in 1923. Her husband predeceased her in 1942. Surviving are two daughters, Jean, Mrs Bruce Glenn, 163 East Christina Street; Shirley, Mrs. Ken Crawford, Longley BC (enroute), two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers, Earl, Newell, and William McDonald, all of Thunder Bay, and other relatives. She was predeceased by brothers, Lorne, Russell, Hugh and Peter, sister Flossie Glover.

    Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:30 pm in the Jenkens Funeral Home. Rev. Joan Mckintosh of First Church United will officiate and interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

    At the recent final session of the Lanark County Council in Perth, Reeve C.M. Forbes, chairman of the Roads and Bridges Committee, red the following interesting report which was adopted:
    Since the June session of Council the road work of the County, in construction and maintenance, has been carried forward without interruption, up to the end of the season and to the poiint where the funds allotted to the various pronjects had been expended, except in the case of County Road Outfit #1. An outbreak of typhoid fever in this camp caused us to stop this work in the month of September, and disperse the men. Six men were attacked by the disease and we regret to have to report that one fine young man, ?u?Stanley McDonald?/u?, of the township of Bathurst died as a result.

    Died of Typhoid Fever. Stanley Holden McDonald, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter McDonald, Lanark, died on Oct. 24th of typhoid fever. He had been working on the good roads between Franktown and Carleton Place when he and several others were stricken with the disease.
