    Died:
Lois Marjorie Miller was born on September 16, 1914 in Grafton, North Dakota. She was raised on the Miller family farm. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Long Beach (CA) State Junior College and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated with a Bachelor of Education in 1936. She remained in Southern California after her graduation and taught for six years; two years each in Norwalk, Ventura and Anaheim, California.
In 1941 on a trip back to Grafton to visit her parents in the summer, she ran into a classmate from high school, Daniel Soutor. Lois and Dan were married in 1942 while Dan was serving his country as a Navy pilot in WWII. He was the love of her life. When the war was over, Dan and Lois settled in Henning to raise their family...Dean, Donna, Joyce and Mark. She loved raising her four children, creating a warm, welcoming home, socializing with friends, antiquing and playing cards. In l967, she resumed her education career in Henning teaching English, speech, drama and directing musicals and plays. She truly loved teaching and her students. Teaching wasn't a job, it was a passion. She often called herself the "Drama Queen." She touched the lives and hearts of many.
Lois also loved California, so when she and Dan retired, they moved to Seal Beach, California during the winters. They returned to Henning during the summers but eventually spent all year in California. Lois was active in her church in Seal Beach and regularly visited the sick and homebound in her parish. Lois and Dan moved back to Minnesota to be near their children in November of 2005. Her beloved Dan passed away in 2009. Lois was well cared for by the staff at Willow Creek and thought of them as her "good friends forever" right up until the end of her life. She often said they were "angels disguised as people."
Lois is survived by her sister Joyce Hardin, her children Dean Soutor (Merrisue), Donna McCarl, Joyce Soutor (John), and Mark; 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Lois will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the students whose lives she profoundly touched in some way during her almost 100 years of life.
