Notes:
1880 - Alva Adams wrote -
Barnabas Lothrop, born at Bastard, August 8th, 1812, the year that war was declared, and the year the family removed to the Stone Mills; was too young to be included in the charge to his two elder brothers, Arza and Alvah, "If you do not learn to swim this summer, I will thrash you!" They learned to swim, and escaped the thrashing. He at one time promised much, religiously, but went west with his brothers under curcumstances that left their religious prospects under a cloud in the minds of their friends. He is now dead, leaving several children - it is not known how many.
Barnabas Lothrope Adams Sr, was born to Elizabeth "Betsy" Chapman and Captain Joshua Adams.
Barnabus married Julia Annie Banker on June 23, 1846 in Des Moine, Iowa. His second wife was Hannah Gove Chase.
Barnabas Lothrop Adams, who was born in Canada, found his way to Iowa, where he married Julia Ann Banker. There they fell in with Brigham Young and his Mormons, became converts, and joined them in their long trek through the wilderness in search of a haven. That was in 1847, while the country in which they finally settled was still owned by Mexico. Asenath Ann Adams was born about three weeks after the Mormons ended their wild and dangerous journey.
?b?Barnabas Lathrop Adams ?/b?was a member of the 4th Quorum of Seventies, according to Rockwood's journal. He was part of the 2nd company of ten, led by Ezra Taft Benson. Thomas Bullock recorded that Barnabas was one of the fifty men called to be part of the Night Guard.
Barnabas also traveled in the Willard Richards 1848 company with his wife, Julia, and daughter Julia Thankful. He served in the company as a Captain of the Second Fifty.
His birth date and death date are confirmed by Utah death records. His obituary claims that he died of a sudden pain in his chest.

"Converted to Mormanism by John E. Page and the Book of Mormon along with his wife Sabina and brother Barnabas. Baptism in a hole in the ice in December and sharing the travails of the Latter-day Saints in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa followed. Arza and his family joined the surge in migration during the late 1840s that poulated the west and later spawned a batch of adamses in Utah."
