    Excerpts from the obituary of Andrew's daughter, Margaret, in reference to her father:

    He was a typical Scot, God-fearing, authoritative, canny, practical, economical, successful, tall and bearded. Whether as carpenter, storekeeper, farmer, or private teacher, he was financially successful.

    Her father held that a man who could not secure a competency by the time he was 60 was a failure.
