North Sherbrooke, Nov 30th, Alex. Ferguson. He was born near Elphin, Oct 10, 1846. His first wife was Catherine Buchanan (Buchan), and his second, who survives him with four daughters, was the former Agnes Geddes. One son died in infancy and the eldest daughter, wife of Duncan Ferguson, jr., died a few years ago. The survivors are; Mrs. John McDougal, and Mrs. James Gilmour, of Elphin; Mrs. John Sergeant, of Harper, and Tena at home. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. McIntyre, of Dalhousie Lake. His brother, Duncan, died on Jan 1st, this year.

Alexander married Agnes Geddes in 1880. Agnes (daughter of Daniel Geddes and Agnes "Nancy" Ferguson) was born on 31 Jul 1857; died on 1 Feb 1942; was buried in Crawford Cemetery, Elphin, Dalhousie Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Mrs John McDougall
Family and friends were shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Agnes Jane McDougall on friday, November 6, 1970 at Kemptville District Hospital. Although she was in failing health for several years, her cheery, friendly manner and quiet personality, along with her faith and courage, made her a joy to be with. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Daughter of the late Alex Ferguson and his wife, Agnes Geddes, she was born on February 11, 1883 in the township of North Sherbrooke.

On December 6, 1911, at Lanark, she was united in marriage to John McDougall, Prior to the purchase of their farm on the 8th line of Bathurst, they lived for a number of years at Elphin,

Left to mourn her loss are three daughters, Florence (Mrs. Craig Greer), Maberly; Blanche (Mrs Charles Foster), Bathurst; Margaret (Mrs Russell Banville), Merrickville, and one son, Stanley, Oxford Mills. Also surviving is one sister, Katie (Mrs. John Sargeant), Bathurst; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters, three sisters and one brother.

The funeral service was conducted by Mr. Jensen of Oxford Mills from the Morrow Funeral Home, Perth, on Monday, Nov. 9, 1970. Interment was in Crawford's Cemetery, Elphin.

The pallbearers were Kenneth Blair, James Rutherford, Harold Trueloove, Ernest Rogers, Lloyd McVeigh and William Charles.

The beautiful floral tributes and donations to the Canadian Bible Society and The Ontario Heart Foundation showed the esteem in which Mrs McDougall was held.

Mrs. James Gilmour - She was born in North Sherbrooke on Jan. 11th, 1885, a daughter of the late Alexander Ferguson. In 1916, she married James Gilmour, residing in North Sherbrooke until Oct 1920 when they moved to Bathurst. She leaves her mother, Mrs. Alex. Ferguson of Lanark Village and three sisters; Mrs. John McDougall and Mrs. John Sergeant of Harper, and Miss Tena Ferguson of Lanark. Burial in Crawford's Cemetery.

Mary Christena Ferguson
The death of Mary Christena Ferguson occurred at the GWM Hospital, Perth, on Aug 10, from a heart seizure.

A daughter of the late Alexander Ferguson and his wife Agnes Geddes, tena was born on the second line of North Sherbrooke. She received her education at SS No 2 and attended Elphin Presbyterian Church of which she was a member.

After her father's deatah in 1917, she and her mother moved from the old homestead to Lanark. Her mother passed aaway in 1942. Although stricken with diabetes early in life, with the help of medical care and self denial, Miss Ferguson carried on a diligent, unassuming life until the fall of 1962 when ill health forced her to give up her home. since then she had been receiving care in several public and private nursing homes.

Left to mourn are two sistsers, (Janie) Mrs. John McDougall, and (Katie) Mrs. John Sergeant, both of Perth RR 7, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral took place from Young's funeral home on Aug. 12. Pallbearers were Lloyd Knowles, John Lashley, Elwin McVeigh, and three nephews, Percy Fergusonn, Allie Sergeant, and Stanley McDougall.

Beautiful floral tributes were silent testimony of esteem for deceased.

Death -
We deeply regret to record the death of Duncan Dwight, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Ferguson. Deceased was about four years old, and was taken ill on Sunday afternoon, and on the same evening took convulsions, from which death relieved him on Monday morning at 10 o'clock. The parents have the sympathy of the entire neighborhood in their sore bereavement.
