    Died:
    John Crawford was a staunch Presbyterian and in 1855 set aside part of his farm for a church and burial grounds, which today is Crawford's Cemetery. John erected a headstone for his wife, Janet Bryce,in Plot #178.
    Only a wood stake was put in place for John Crawford after his death. I was next to his wife's headstone. It had only his name "John Crawford inscribed on it"(no birth or death date).(See photo)
    A marker was placed in his name June 2006, by the Crawford Cemetery Board and it is inscribed:
    "John Crawford founder of Crawford Cemetery"
    At this time, it is not known the exact date of when John Crawford Died. His will was registered July 5, 1867 and was executed July 10, 1872 (thus abt. 1872).

    (Elphin News) - One of our oldest residents crossed that bourne from which none return about two weeks ago in the person of Mrs. James Gilmour. She being the same age as the Queen. She leaves a large family to mourn her loss: Alex. and Elizabeth at home; William, in North Sherbrooke; John, at Vennachar; Edward, at Ardoch; Mary (Mrs. Bain), at Fallbrook; and James, in Minnesota. Her husband preceded her to the grave about three years ago.

    At Elphin, Sunday, April 15th, Mrs. Gilmour, aged 80 years. Burial on Tuesday to Crawford's Cemetery.

    Paul - Mrs. Robert Paul, Dalhousie, died on March 18th at the age of seventy-seven years. Her maiden name was Janet McDougall. Her husband died nine years ago.

    Gilmour - On Thursday evening, Nov. 8th, Mr. William Gilmour passed away at the Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth at the age of 72 years. He was the third son of the late James Gilmour and Jessie Crawford. He was married to Mary McDonald of Palmerston, and he was highly esteemed and respected by all who knew him as was shown by the very large funeral. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and one son, James of Harper, and three daughters, Mrs. Alex. McIntyre, Elphin; Mrs. John S. Nisbett, Lorenzo, Sask., and Mrs. Stanley Purdon, McDonald's Corners, and two brothers and one sister, John, of Denbigh; Edward of Rednersville, Ont., and Mrs. Alex. Duncan, Elphin. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Kenneth McCaskill, of McDonald's Corners and the Rev. Mr. Walsh of Maberly. The pallbearers were Messrs. Walter Geddes, Andrew Paul, Dan Geddes, Alex. McDougall, D. J. Nisbet and Howard McDougald. The floral offerings were a beautiful wreath from the family and a spray from the Elphin branch of the Women's Institute. The bereaved wife and family have the sympathy of the whole community.

    Obituary - The Perth Courier - July 11,1930-
    Paul - In the passing of Mr. Andrew Paul, on the 22nd of June, Dalhousie lost a life-long citizen and the people of McDonald's Corners and Elphin a good neighbor and friend. Before many of his friends realized that he was sick, Mr. Paul had become so ill that it was thought best that he should be taken to hospital. On June 18th he was taken to the Kingston Hospital where an operation was performed without delay. At first, hope was cherished as to his recovery but on Saturday afternoon, June 21st, it was seen that his condition was becoming more critical and on Sunday morning at eleven o'clock the end came. His wife and son, who had accompanied him to the hospital, remained with him until he passed away. He was conscious to the last and expressed himself as being ready to go.

    Mr. Paul was born in Dalhousie near where he was living at the time of his death and on October of this year he would have been seventy-two years of age. For all he had reached his three score and ten, he did not seem old but went about his duties as a man of fewer years, and had such a cheerful spirit that one would not be reminded of his age. On December 14th 1881, he was married to Christina McLean and for nearly fifty years these two lived together in happy wedlock. Two sons were born to them - Robert who is at home, and John, a successful banker who lives in Rouleau, Sask. The latter reached home in time for the funeral which was held on the 25th at the home. The interment took place at Crawford's Cemetery. A large number of friends and acquaintances gathered to pay their tribute of respect. The services were conducted by the minister, Rev. K. McCaskill. The following acted as pallbearers : Walter Geddes, James Smith, James Paul, Robert Millar, Finlay McLean, and James G. McLean.

    The following sent flowers : Wreaths from the family and from the Women's Institute of McDonald's Corners; sprays from Mr. and Mrs. Finlay McLean, Hillyard and Hugh McLean; Mr. and Mrs. J. G. McLean and Marion, Women's Institute of Elphin, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Bland Shaw, Mrs. Mary Park, Rev. and Mrs. E. McCaskill, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Millar, Edna and Marjorie, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Geddes, William and Howard Fair. Mr. Paul was respected and loved, a man always ready to do a kindness, honest, industrious, a dispenser of hospitality and a faithful attendant and supporter of his church. He was a good husband, a kind father, and a helpful neighbor. He will be greatly missed in the home, in the church, and in the community. He is survived by one brother, George Paul of Snow Road, and three sisters, Mrs. John Kring and Mary Paul of this community and Mrs. Isaac Shanks of Playfairville. How eminently true it is regarding this dear friend that he is gone but not forgotten. In the garden of memory, there will long remain a cherished spot for Andrew Paul.

    Peacefully, entered into rest at Lanark Lodge on Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 in her 95th year. Beloved wife for 67 years of Jim McIntyre; loving mother of Sandra, Blake (Angie) and Brenda. Cherished grandmother of Rick Cyr (Debra), Jim McIntyre (Sue), Tracy Middleton (Ted) and Robert McIntyre (Elizabeth) and proud great grandmother of Brett and Erin Cyr, Erin and Douglas McIntyre and Jack and Max Middleton. Tena was the youngest of her 5 siblings and the daughter of the late Michael and Margaret (Kilby) Blake. She will be fondly remembered by the many students she taught over the years. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, 15 Gore St. W. Perth on Saturday, August 9th, 2008 from 1 to 2:45 P.M. Funeral service in the Chapel at 3:00 P.M. immediately followed by a reception in the Blair & Son Family Centre. Interment will be held in Crawford Cemetery, McDonald's Corners at a later date. In remembrance, contributions to Elphin Presbyterian Church or memorial fund of choice would be appreciated.     McVeigh - Mrs Joseph McVeigh passed away at her home on the 8th line of Bathurst, on June 6th at the advanced age of 85 years. She was born at McDonald's Corners, her maiden name beign Jane Paul, and she was a daughter of the late Andrew Paul.

    She was married in 1874 at McDonald's Corners. Her husband predeceasing her twenty years ago. Up until her death she had resided on the homestead with her son Robert. She was the last of a family of nine. Her parents were among the early settlers and came to Canada from Scotland. Mrs. McVeigh was of a very kind disposition, a devoted mother and well thought of by all who knew h er. Surviving are three sons and four daughters, viz., John of Vancouver, BC, Alfred of Cranbrook, BC, Robert on the homestead. Mrs A.E. Wilson, of Perth, Mrs. John McKerracher, of Flint, Mich., and Mrs Richard Frizell, Ferry Road. Two sons are deceased, Thomas, who was killed at Vimy Ridge in 1917, and Elwin, who died at Drumheller, Alberta, in 1924.

    The funeral took place from her late residence on June 8th to the 8th line cemetery and was largely attended. Rev. H.O. Hodder, of Balderson officiated. The pallbearers were Messrs. A.E. Wilson, Richard Frizell, Andrew Paul, W.E. Cameron, Richard Byrne and Richard Hopkins.

    Jane married Joseph McVeigh in 1874 in McDonald Corners, Dalhousie Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.     Sudden Passing of Robert J. Paul
    On July 13 (18?) Robert J. Paul passed away very suddenly. Although not in the best of health he had been very active and was about his usual activities the previous day. He was the son of the late Andrew Paul and Christena McLean.

    Deceased was born July 16th, 1882 and spent his entire life on the farm near Mr. Donald's Corners.

    In 1913 he was united in marriage to Edith Fair, who predeceased him in 1939. On September 12, 1941 he was united in marriage to Wilma Ashby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs James Ashby. To this union were born three children, namely, Billy, Edith and Bessie. A brother John died in 1940.

    The funeral services were held from Jackson's Funeral Home to the Elphin Presbyterian Church, of which he was a member. Interment was in Crawford's Cemetery with Rev. Allan Duncan of McDonald's Corners officiating.

    Pallbearers were Lindsay Duncan, Bert Shanks, Eldred Gemmill, Walter Stewart, Frank McKinnon and Alvin Paul.

    Flower bearers were Delmer Paul, Clarence Gemmill, James Shanks, Morris Ashby, George Duncan and Merle Duncan.

    Purdon, Eva Jeanette (nee McIntyre) 1908 - 2005. Eva passed away peacefully at the hospital in Perth on Monday, December 12th, 2005 in her 98th year. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Annie McIntyre and was predeceased by her husband Mervil Purdon. Eva is survived by her beloved brother Jim (Tena) McIntyre, her nieces Sandra McIntyre and Brenda McIntyre and nephew Blake (Angie) McIntyre. She will be fondly remembered by her great nephews and niece, Rick (Debra) Cyr, Jim (Sue) McIntyre and Robert (Elizabeth) McIntyre and Tracy (Ted) Middleton and 5 great-great nephews and nieces. Friends may pay their respects at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth on Friday, December 16th, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. until service in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Crawford's Cemetery, McDonald's Corners.     McINTYRE, James Fee Veteran of WWII James F. (Jim) McIntyre entered into rest at the Perth Hospital on Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 in his ninety-ninth year. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years, Tena, in 2008 and was the loving father of Sandra, Blake (Angie) and Brenda. He will be fondly remembered by his grand-children Rick Cyr (Debra), Jim McIntyre (Sue), Tracy Middleton (Ted) and Robert McIntyre (Elizabeth) and his great-grandchildren Brett and Erin Cyr, Erin and Douglas McIntyre and Jack and Max Middleton. Jim was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Annie (Gilmour) McIntyre and his sister Eva Purdon.     Robert McVeigh - Following a short illness, Robert McVeigh passed away at the GWM Hospital, Perth, on May 1, 1974, in his 88th year. He was the son of the late Joseph McVeigh and his wife Jane Paul. In 1911 he married, Alice Elizabeth Cameron. Mr. McVeigh was a life-long resident of the Perth area, a blacksmith by trade and for a number of years was manager of the Bathurst Feldspar Mine. He was keenly interested in music and was well known for his accomplished violin. The funeral service was held on May 3. Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
