    His obituary appeared on 2 Nov 1934 in the Ogdensburg Journal in Ogdensburg, St. Lawrence, New York, as follows:
    "A. F. Spooner Died At Home In Richville. Was Well Known Cattle Breeder--Funeral Services Saturday. Gouverneur, Nov. 2 -- A. Frederick Spooner, Aged 76, died at his home in Richville at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
    "Mr. Spooner was born Jan. 4, 1858, in DeKalb, the son of Edwin and Ages Miller Spooner. He had lived in this section all his life. He was well known in the North Country as a breeder of Ayrshire cattle. At one time he was an official of the St. Lawrence Valley Ayrshire Breeders' association.
    "He owned two farms and managed a farm belonging to his wife. On one of the farms, known as the River Farm, he had 100 head of registered cattle.
    "Mr. Spooner always took an active interest in the dairying industry, and was always ready to help with any measures calculated to aid dairymen of the North Country. At one time he was director in the Dairymen's League, District No. 10, which included Franklin and St. Lawrence Counties. He had a thorough knowledge of the dairy industry, and paid especial attention to the marketing end of dairying.
    "He was one of the organizers of the Spooner-Campbell Company of Gouverneur, but retired from that organization a number of years ago.
    "Mr. Spooner was a member of the Congregational Church. He was a member of Richville Grange and of the Forresters.
    "Surviving besides his wife, Harriet Barber Spooner, are a daughter, Mrs. Walter Best of Charleston, West Va., and three grandchildren, Frederick A. Best, Georgianna Best, all of Charleston.
    "Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. from the Spooner home in Richville. Rev. Frank T. Bennetts, pastor of the

    "Mrs. Walter Best. Gouverneur -- Alice Spooner Best, 51, wife of Walter Best, died Monday afternoon at her home in Richville. Mrs. Best was the daughter of Frederick and Lettie Chandler Best." [Ogdensburg, NY, Journal, 12/28/1944]

    Her obituary appeared on 27 Dec 1944 in the Tribune Press in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, New York, as follows: "Mrs. Walter C. Best. Mrs. Alice Best wife of Walter C. Best, died at the home on Main Street the afternoon of Christmas day following many years of ill health and for several years was confined to a wheel chair by partial paralysis. She was born in Richville, July 6, 1893 the only child of A. Frederick Spooner and Lottie Chandler Spooner.
    "On September 16, 1919, she was married to Walter C. Best of Cape Vincent in a home wedding. Three children were born to this union: Ensign Frederick A. Best, U. S. N. R. stationed in the Aleutians, Mrs. Robert S. (Georgiana) Butterworth, Mrs. Reginald (Betty) Smith who survive with her husband and two grandchildren, Robert S. Butterworth, junior and Chandler Smith.
    "Mrs. Best was a graduate of the Lowville Academy, Class of 1912, and of Elmira College in 1916.
    "Although Mrs. Best had been badly afflicted for so many years she was always cheerful and took a keen interest in her home life and thoughtfulness of others, even to the last. She was a member of the Richville United Church, Order of Eastern Star and Richville Grange.

    "Georgiana married Robert Butterworth in 1943, and Mr. Butterworth died serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WW II. She married Joseph Wranesh in 1946, and the couple was married for 59 years.
    "Georgiana was the only member of the class of 1940 at Richville Union High School and went on to receive both her BA and M. Ed. from St. Lawrence University in Canton. She taught world history and Canadian studies for 25 years at Gouverneur Central High School.
    "She enjoyed more than 30 years of retirement in North Carolina where she enjoyed weaving and playing golf and spending summers on Trout Lake.
    "She was a member of the Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Southern Pines, Sandhills Weaving Guild, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Colonial Dames, Whispering Pines Country Club, and Delta Kappa Gamma.
    "Georgiana is survived by her son Robert and Suzan Butterworth of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, her daughter Nancy and Robert Atwood of Astoria, OR, 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a sister Betty Smith, and a brother Frederick Best.
    "A graveside service is planned for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8th at Maple Grove Cemetery, Richville with the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
