A post village situated on the Toronto and Kingston gravel road, in the township of Clarke, 19 miles from Cobourg, 10 miles from Bowmanville, 55 miles from Toronto, and 12 miles from Port Hope. It contains a population of 200: 3 general stores, 1 grocery, 2 carriage and waggon shops, e blacksmith shops, 1 cooper, 1 saddle and harness shop, 1 sho shop, 1 cabinent shop, and two hotels; 2 churches - Canada Presbyterian; Established Church of Scotland; Wesleyan Methodist, and Episcopal Church; the former holds services in the temperance hall; and the latter in the school house. Mails received daily at 10 am, and despatched at 8 am. Mails to Kendall semi-weekly - Wednesday and Saturday.
