Totten, Dr. Walter Sylvanis- Walter Sylvanis Totten M.D.C.M., F.R.C.P.C., A.B.N.M., passed away at the Belleville General Hospital after a long battle with cancer on October 18th, 2011, in his 85th year.
Son of the late Walter & Nellie (Higgins) Totten of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia.
Beloved husband of Anne Totten (nee Campbell). Dear Father of Laura (Robert) Young of Whitby, Aida (Stephen) Sine of Cobourg, Jane Totten of Smiths Falls and son Curtis Totten of Singapore.
He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sisters Jeannie Pearcey of Bedford, Nova Scotia, Germaine (Les) Mclean of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia and one brother, Vernon (Rita) Totten of New Minas, Nova Scotia.
Dr. Totten was a graduate of Dalhousie Medical School (1954). He completed residencies in Internal Medicine at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal and Stanford Medical Centre, California, and Pathology residency at Salt Lake City Community Hospital.
In 1962 Dr. Totten opened a practice in Internal Medicine in Belleville,Ont. He established the Department of Nuclear Medicine at the Belleville General Hospital in 1963 and served as the Director for 34 years until his retirement in 1997.
By his request there will be no visitation. Cremation. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to the John R. Bush Funeral Home, 80 Highland Ave. Belleville,Ont (613-968-5588).
