    This Township is bounded on the North by Lake Huron, on the west by the River St. Clair, on the south by the Township of Moore, and on the east by Plympton. The Township is well watered, and contains some excellent farming lands, especially in its back part. A considerable portion of the finest land in the Township is set apart by Government as a reserve for the Indians. Population in 1846, 610: present population; 1560. The value of rateable property in 1846 was $33,ooo: in 1862 it was $291,112. The township contains Sarnia, the County Town, and terminus of the Sarnia Branch of the Great Western Railway: and Point Edward, the terminus of the Grand Trunk Railway in Canada.

    Millar - William Miller
    William Miller sr., the "grand old man" of North Sherbrooke, passed away  from the old homestead on Wednesday, Feb. 26th, 1913, at the ripe age of ninety-three years and eight months, notes the Era.

    Mr. Millar was born in June 1819, in Gallingate, Scotland (sic - see note). In 1839, he was united in marriage to a lady of his native city, and the couple resided in Glasgow for three years, after which they, in company with many others, took ship for Canada, landing in Quebec early in June. From Quebec they made their way to Perth, and finally settled in the backwoods of North Sherbrooke on Lot 7, concession 4. There by hard toil and perseverance, for which the pioneers from the Old Land were noted, they made for themselves and family a comfortable home. To them were born thirteen children, of whom nine survive, vis.: Hugh and Maggie on the homestead; John of Elphin; William of Dalhousie; Robert, Sandy, Ella, Eilen and Bemege of Minnesota. In 1891 Mr. Millar's aged help mate was called away.

    Until his ninety second year he took a deep interest in Sabbath School work, for which the Session and Sabbath school conferred on him the honor of the Robert Raikes diploma. For over fifty years he was a constant reader of the Montreal Witness. Throughout his long life he was an ardent advocate of temperance and a staunch Liberal in politics. His funeral service was conducted by his minister, Rev A.J. McMullen, BA, in the Elphin Presbyterian church, of which he was for so many years a model elder and a faithful Sabbath school teacher. Interment took place in the Crawford cemetery.

    Note:
    James Millar, believed to be his father, arrived in Canada in 1821 but returned to Scotland after the death of his wife in 1826. It is believed that he settled in Glasgow for a time and that he took his children with him to Scotland in order for them to receive schooling. His grandfather William Millar(er) had business interests in Glasgow.
    Not all the children from his first marriage returned when he returned to Canada with a new wife in the early 1830's.
    Shortly after his return, he joined the Lanark settlers who moved to Lambton County, as part of the Malcolm Cameron recruits in the early 1830s. Some of William's family joined their cousins in Minnesota.Perth Courier

He is also survived by his many cousins: Christine "Pixie" Penner and the Penner family, the Grass family, the Lars Husum family in Denmark, and his extended Scottish family-by-heart in Wisconsin.

    Jack was a fourth-generation Milwaukeean and a lifelong East Sider. He attended Philipp Elementary School, Hartford Avenue School, and Riverside (East) High School as Class of 1963. Jack attended UW-Madison College of Engineering and UW-Milwaukee. Jack served in the United States Navy as a midshipman. During his 40 plus year career in industrial water treatment equipment manufacturing, Jack excelled as an engineer and entrepreneur. He started multiple successful businesses in Milwaukee, including Hydro-Max, Schafer & Associates, and Lakeside Water Treatment Inc.. Jack was a proud member of the Scottish community. He served as Wisconsin State Commissioner for Clan Sinclair USA. He served as the President of the St. Andrew's Society of the City of Milwaukee from 2018 until his passing; previously serving as First Vice President, Second Vice President, and a member of the Board of Managers for several years. He was a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland.

    The Schafer family is thankful for the wonderful staff of Columbia St. Mary's on Lake Drive for their exceptional care.     Cecil Robert Karr passed away peacefully, after a short illness on September 29th in Ephrata, Washington. He was born February 15, 1924, in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Cyril and Hazel Karr. He spent his early years traveling the country with his family while his father worked for Standard Oil. After graduation, Cecil entered the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942 and served in Europe until his discharge in 1945. Shortly before his discharge, he met the love of his life in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. After three months of courtship, he married Mary Jean Newkirk on December 29, 1945. They enjoyed over 65 happy and loving years together. They had two children: Gary Karr and Nancy (Kemon) Backus, and one beautiful granddaughter Alexis (nicknamed Lucky) all of Auburn. Cecil is also survived by his younger brother Kenneth Karr of San Diego. Cecil retired from the Boeing Company in April 1986 with over thirty-one years of dedicated service. He was a hardworking, good man and took wonderful care of his family. He was loved and will be missed so much by friends and family.
