LARRY PAUL MUIR, 82, lifelong Lapeer resident, died Friday, January 3, 2020. He was blessed to spend his entire life surrounded by loving family and friends.
Mr. Muir was born
January 13, 1937, in
Chicago, IL, to Paul and Jane (Smith) Muir.
Larry graduated in
1955 from Lapeer High School and married Sharon Lang on August 31, 1957, at the Monroe Street Methodist Church in Lapeer. He graduated in 1959 from Wayne State University with a degree in Mortuary Science. Larry and Sharon Muir own and operate Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Larry is a 3rd generation and 60-year licensed funeral director and incredibly proud his family is continuing this dedication to families in our community. In 1961, Larry told his loving wife Sharon, "I think I can make some money on these cows". He never made any money at it, but farming was a passion he carried throughout his entire lifetime. Larry was happy on a tractor, standing in his fields, fixing fence, covered with cow shit?and feeding the cows, horses and chickens. Mr. and Mrs. Muir have been longtime, devoted supporters of local charities, churches and veteran organizations. Larry was an active member of the Lapeer Rotary Club for many, many years, also the Lapeer Elks Lodge #2567, Lapeer Oddfellows #94, Lapeer Historical Society, Lapeer Masonic Lodge #54 and Hadley Historical Society. Mr. Muir enjoyed watching birds, finding "new gadgets", reading, joking around, teasing others, attending auctions, gabbing with friends, of course farming, eating good food and above all he loved time spent with family. He was so proud of his whole family and spent much time attending their sporting events, band concerts, graduations, birthday parties and just getting together to eat.
Larry is survived by wife of 62 years, Sharon; children, Colleen Muir of Lapeer, Laurie (Bob Morris) Muir Morris of Rochester Hills, Todd (Sommer Schons) Muir of Lapeer and Nathan (Molly) Muir of Lapeer; grandchildren, Austin (Ally) Muir of Portland, ME, Ryan (Brea) Muir of Lapeer, Ben Muir of Watertown, NY, Parker Morris of Rochester Hills, Amber Morris of Rochester Hills, Emma Muir, Aiden Muir and Ellery Muir of Lapeer; great-grandson, Rowan Muir; sisters, Debbie Muir Brown of St. Petersburg, FL, and LuAnne (Bill) Balla of Haslett; sister-in-law, Pat Brown of Lapeer; brother-in-law, George (Mary Jane) Lang of Attica; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Jane Muir; in-laws, Howard and Arlene Lang; brother, Douglas Muir; and brother-in-law, Jim Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family is encouraging memorial contributions made to Lapeer Community Foundation, 235 West Nepessing St., Lapeer 48446 or any local charity of your choice.
