Helen Rintoul
Former Ramsay township resident Helen Elizabeth Rintoul died Feb 8 at Fairview Manor in Almonte at the age of 81. She had been ill for a year. Mrs Rintoul was the daughter of the late John T. Somerville and Elizabeth Ann Rodger. She was born on March 20, 1903 in Middleville. She received her education at Middleville public, Lanark high and Ottawa normal schools. On Sept 1, 1927 she married the late George Alva Rintoul in Middleville. She enjoyed a teaching career at Herron's Mill and Scotch Line public schools and was a homemaker at the family farm in Ramsay township near Carleton Place. Mrs Rintoul is survived by sons, Kelvin, William and Donald of Carleton Place, Laurie of Almonte, Archie of Bracebridge and Leslie of Oakville as well as daughters Elsie (Mrs William McKnight) of Lower Millstream, NB and Ruth of Dartmouth, NS. Seven Rintoul granddaughters also survive her. They are Margaret, Leslie Ann and Barbara Lee of Carleton Place, Wendy of Oakville, Susan of Bracebridge, Cynthia of Pakenham and Brenda McKnight of Ottawa A sister, Ida (Mrs S. Gavitt) of Syracuse, New York is also left to mourn. Mrs Rintoul was predeceased by three brothers, Arthur, formerly of Vancouver; Rodger of Perth and Eric of Lanark and one sister, Jennie (Mrs D. MacFarlane) of Almonte. A Carleton Place area resident for 57 years, Mrs Rintoul was a life member of the Rocky Ridge Women's Institute. She belonged to the Zion Memorial United Church Sunshine Unit 1 and the church quilter's club. Rev Wesley Mitchell conducted the funeral at the Alan Barker Funeral Home in Carleton Place, Feb 10, 1985. Burial will take place at the Auld Kirk Cemetery in the spring.

Correction
In the Helen Elizabeth Rintoul obituary carried on page 17 of the Feb 20 issue, it should have been noted that the seven Rintoul granddaughters listed were pallbearers. A total of 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren survive.
