DEATHS
At his residence, in the township of Ramsay, on Sunday, 8th inst Adonijah Giles, aged 36 years.

Adonijah married Margaret Ann Evans in 1872. Margaret was born on 2 May 1857 in Mississippi Mills (Ramsay), Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died on 4 Dec 1928 in Mississippi Mills (Ramsay), Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in United Church (Auld Kirk) Cemetery, Mississippi Mills (Ramsay), Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Robert William Giles
Mr Robert W. Giles passed away suddenly in Almonte General Hospital on September 2nd, 1970. Mr Giles was born in Ramsay Township on October 24, 1875, a son of the late Adonijah Giles and wife Margaret Evans. He was married in 1903 to the former Jean McArthur who predeceased him in 1948 Surviving are two sons, Ernest and Allan and five daughters, Mrs N.T. Sadler (Jean), Mrs Rae (Florence), Mrs Baird (Laura), all of Almonte, Mrs F. Obrey (Mary) of Rnefrew and Mrs W.J. Carpenter (Eleanor) of Smiths Falls and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by twins, a son and daughter. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs W. Elliott (Minnie) of Sonningdale, Sask, Mrs B. Traill (Ada) of Smiths Falls and Mrs E. Rankin (Eva) of Ottawa. Two brothers, Edward and Reuben and one sister, Elizabeth predeceased him and two half brothers, Findlay Gordon and William Gordon. The funeral was held from the Kerry Funeral Home, Elgin Street, on Saturday, September 5, 1970, with burial in the Auld Kirk Cemetery, Rev Robert McCrea of Almonte United Church conducted the service. Pallbearers were six grandsons: Elford Giles, Ivan Giles, Robert Giles, Robert Sadler, Donald Carpenter and Merville McGrath

Robert married Jean Edith "Jennie" McArthur in 1867. Jean (daughter of Stephen "Steen" McArthur and Mary Turner) was born in Jun 1881 in Mississippi Mills (Ramsay), Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; died in 1948 in Mississippi Mills (Almonte), Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in United Church (Auld Kirk) Cemetery, Mississippi Mills (Ramsay), Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Suddenly in hospital at Almonte on Saturday August 21, 1993. Ernie Giles of Almonte. Age 86 Years. Beloved husband of the late Irene MacGregor. Dear father of Menzie (Agnes), Ottawa; Irene (Mrs Clare Rath), Richmond and Elford (Pat), Almonte. Father-in-law of Mrs Gwen Giles. Predeceased by his son Ivan. Brother of Mrs Mary Obrey, Mrs Laura Baird. Jean (Mrs Norman Sadler) and Mrs Eleanor Carpenter. Predeceased by 1 sister Mrs Florence Rae and 1 brother Allen. Also survived by 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his granddaughter, Sandra. Friends called at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home, 127 Church Street, Almonte. Service was held in the Chapel on Tuesday. Rev Grant Wilson officiated. Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.

Ernest Clarence Giles
Long-time Almonte resident Ernest Clarence Giles died Aug 21 in the Almonte General Hospital at age 86. He was born in Fitzroy Township June 10, 1907 to the late Robert Giles and the late Jean MacArthur Giles. On April 24, 1929 he married the late Irene Marion Stewart MacGregor in Arnprior. A stationary engineer, Mr Giles lived most of his life in the Almonte and Renfrew areas. he was an elder with the Almonte Presbyterian Church. Mr Giles was a past master to the Royal Black Preceptory 639, Loyal Orange Lodge 378 and the Orange Young Britons 257. The Hope Street resident owned a 1906 Sawyer Massey steam engine which he exhibited at fairs around the area. Mr Giles is survived by sons Menzie of Ottawa and Elford of Almonte. daughter Irene Rath and sisters Mary Obrey, Laura Baird. Jean Sadler and Eleanor Carpenter. He was predeceased by son Ivan, brother Ivan and sister Florence Rae. Rev Grant Wilson led the funeral service at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home Aug 24 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael, Ian, Brent, and Scott Giles and Rodney and Dale Rath

Dear sister of Jean Sadler, Eleanor Carpenter and Mary Obrey. Predeceased by a sister, Florence Rae and 2 brothers, Ernest and Allan. Friends may call at the C.R. Peacefully at home on Monday, September 15, 2014 in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late William John Carpenter. Loving mother of John (Judy), Donald (Marilyn), Brenda, and Peter (Sharon). Cherished grandmother of Jennifer, Jaime, Bridget and Margaret. Honorary great-grandmother of Megan. Dear sister of Jean Sadler. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at Lannin Funeral Home, Smiths Falls, on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 2 pm. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
