    Ann Marie Tweedie Nye, 90, of Mullins, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence. She spent her final days surrounded by her family and died with her beloved daughter, Jackie, by her side. Ann Marie was born on July 24, 1927 in Sandusky, Michigan to the late Dr. George Evans Tweedie and Mrs. Richard Edward Lipscomb (Margaret Smith Tweedie Lipscomb). She was married to the late Jackson Lenneau Nye, and for many years they owned and operated Nye Drug Store in Mullins. Mrs. Nye graduated from Ashley Hall in Charleston, attended the University of South Carolina, and received her B.A. degree from the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Upon graduation, she worked for the Charleston Public Library and later for the Harris and Webster Insurance Services.

    Her love for Mullins and Marion County was evident in the many ways she served her community through the years. Mrs. Nye was an avid supporter of economic development and often acted as an ambassador on behalf of the various industrial and development committees in the region. She served as Secretary of the Mullins Industrial Planning Committee and as Vice-chairman of the Mullins Development Commission. She was a Director and Treasurer of the Mullins Chamber of Commerce and recipient of the Director of the Year award. Ann was a past chairman of the Mullins Merchant Association and a Secretary of the Mullins Library Board. She served on the Carolina Golden Leaf Board of Directors and was a Board member of the Marion County Museum. She was a member of the Mullins Depot Committee, the Mullins Great Town Committee, the Mullins Tree Committee, and the Tussie Mussie Garden Club. In addition, Mrs. Nye served as a former Miss Mullins.

    Ann has been an active supporter of Pee Dee Academy since its inception. In its early years, she acted as secretary and librarian; and she performed numerous tasks to ensure the school had a strong foundation.

    As a member of the DAR, Mrs. Nye worked to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. She served as State Corresponding Secretary, State Historian, State Registrar, and on the Tamassee DAR School Board. She was a member of the Blue Savannah, Swamp Fox chapter of which she was a Regent, Recording Secretary, and Corresponding Secretary. She had served as State President of S.C. Dames of the Court of Honor, State Vice-President and State Chaplain of the Daughters of Colonial Wars, State Vice-Regent of the Daughters of the American Colonists and a member of the Pee Dee Chapter where she served as Registrar, Corresponding, and Recording Secretaries.

    A faithful Christian with a sweet and gentle spirit, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was an active, dedicated member of Macedonia United Methodist Church where she served as past Chairman of the Day Care Board, past Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees, former Secretary of the Administrative Board, and an active member of Silver Service and Nurture and Care Committee as well as in many other capacities.

    Surviving Mrs. Nye are her daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn Nye Paterno and Charles F. Paterno of Mullins; four grandchildren, Charles Nye (Mandy) Paterno of Richmond Hill, Georgia; Lide Evans (Jen) Paterno of Arlington, Virginia; Jackson McDonald (Nirina) Paterno of Madagascar; and Reade Warner Paterno of Washington, DC; six great-grandchildren, Blake, Warren Ann, Adela, Evans, Annabelle, and Madix Paterno.

    A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 1, 2017 in the sanctuary of Macedonia United Methodist Church. A private burial will be held earlier in the day.
