    After a lengthy illness, Norman William Burke passsed away in Smiths Falls Public Hospital on February 24th, at the age of 78 years.

    Deceased was born at Perth on May 4th, 1885, a sun of Edmund Burke and his wife, Harriet Imeson. He farmed on the Scotch Line until eight years ago when he went to Smiths Falls to reside. During his lifetime he served as a member of the school board, took an active part in township affairs, and was a prominent member of the Progressive Conservative Association in North Burgess. he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Prince of Wales Chapter No. 266 and True Britons Lodge No. 14, Perth.

    Deceased was married twice. His first wife was the former Eva Armstrong and his second wife, the former Muriel Gault.

    He was an Anglican in religion and a member of St. John the Evangelists Church, Smiths Falls.

    Surviving are two sons, Edmund and Gordon, Toronto; six daughters, Wilma (Mrs J. G. Fairburn), Ottawa; Vivian (Mrs Arnold Fleming, Smiths Falls; Olive (Mrs. Cameron Ireton), Drummond Centre; Norma (Mrs Fred Girdwood), Chalk River; Ruby (Mrs Ronald Blair), Perth; Doreen at home; one brother, Wellington Burke, Perth and one sister, Hattie (Mrs Cameron McTavish, Perth.

    The funeral was held from the Lannin Funeral Home, Smiths Falls, to St John's Anglican Church, on February 27, where service was conducted by Archdeacon G.H. Sadler, Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Perth.

    The pallbearers were William Allan, William Moodie and Mervyn Ferrier, Scotch Line, Perth: H. Weir, G. Nolan and E. Noble, Smiths Falls
