Mrs. John Whitson

Mrs. John Whitson died Saturday at the home of her son, William, at Berthold, North Dakota. The body was brought to Fergus Falls, Minn., for burial, the funeral being held Monday. Her son, Russell, of this city, attended the funeral. Mrs. Whitson was ninety years of age March 12th, last. She was a resident of Northfield until six years ago when she went to Berthold to live with her son.

Berthold Woman Died at the Age of 90 Years.

Berthold Tribune: Mrs. Jane Whitson, who has been making her home in this city for several years, died early Saturday Morning, September 1, at the home of her son, William A. Whitson, at the advanced age of 90 years. While the deceased had been a partial invalid for some few years past it was not until about a year ago that she became bedridden. She was a woman of wonderful vitality and her mental faculties were unimpared almost up to the end. In spite of her pain and helplessness she has always been as patient and cheerful as could be expected when her age and condition is considered.

Private funeral services, conducted by Rev. M.W. Hiner, were held at the residence Saturday afternoon and on the following morning the remains were shipped to Fergus Falls, Minn., for interment.

The deceased was born March 12, 1827, near Smith's Falls, Can., and was married Feb. 28, 1850. Nine children were born to this union, seven of whom survive her, namely Robert and Russell of Northfield, Minn., Mrs. Jas. Thompson, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, John of Sauk Center, Minn., Albert of Fergus Falls, Minn., Mrs. Thomas Nephew of Sawyer, N. Dak., and William of Berthold, N. Dak.

Balderson, Fri. Feb. 25th, 1927, Mrs. Edward King, aged 81 years. Margaret Lawson was born at Lombardy and married 58 years ago. Mr. King predeceased her some years ago. She is survived by three sons and one daughter; Harry of Ogema, SK; Edward and James of Balderson and Mrs. George Echlin of Weyburn, SK. Three daughters and one son are deceased. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

There passed away at the Vanguard hospital on Dec 23, an old and respected residen of the Vanguard district at the ripe old age of 80 years and 6 months. Although being in poor health for three years, the old gentleman was often seen around town, cheery and fond of a chat. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, Dec 24, service being held in the Burton Schoolhouse by Rev. S.W. Crouch, and was largeley attended Interment was made in Burton cemetery.The late Andrew Lawson was born at Lombardy, Ontario, on June 30, 1848 and resided there until coming to Vanguard district in 1912. "There passed away in Montreal last Thursday, January 19 in the person of Mrs. Margaret Webster, a lady who at one time was a well known resident of Perth. She was born here in 1847 [?] and was a daughter of William Lillie, a prominent businessman and one of the pioneers of Perth. Her brother, Robert Lillie was one of the most active figures in the industrial life of our town for many years prior to his removal to Vancouver, B.C. As a young lady, Miss Margaret Lillie was a zealous worker in Knox church during the ministry of Rev. Messrs. Duncan and Barns serving for a long time as teacher in the Sabbath school. On her marriage in 1875[?] to Mr. George Webster of Montreal she removed to that city, and at once entered into the religious philanthropic work of the great metropolis. She became identified with St. Paul's Presbyterian church, and during the ministry of Rev. Dr. Barclay, was one of his most faithful and active workers. She had charge of a large primary class in Nazareth St. for many years and was an active worker in the ladies aid, W.F.M.S. and other church organisations. But she was too broad-minded and large hearted to confine her activities to her own church.

Those in poverty or distress, regardless of their denomination, found in her a ready friend and helper. Many a sufferer, too, in hospitals of Montreal have been cheered by her timely visits. After the death of her husband in 1900, most of her time was devoted to relief work among the poor. Mrs. Webster's sudden death in Montreal came as a great shock to her many friends. The remains were brought to Perth for interment. The funeral service was held on Sunday afternoon at the home of her niece Mrs. Samuel Thornbury, and was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Carrier of Knox church assisted by Rev. Mr. Richardson of Asbury church. A large concourse of mourning friends accompanied the body to its last resting-place in Elmwood cemetery. Mrs. Webster is survived by her brother, Robert Lillie of Vancouver and by several nephews and nieces."

Mr Wm. Lawson
After a long illness, Mr William Lawson died at the residence of his sister, Mrs. James Templeton, in this town, on Tuesday night at the age of 53 years. Deceased was born in this town and learnign the harness trade with Mr. Thomas Jamieson, afterwards kept a shop here himself, and after that in Picton. This was many years ago. He lived in Chicago for a time, where he was taken ill with rheumatism, and this was the main cause of his death. He was buried with Masonic rites on Thursday afternoon.

William Lawson
On Sunday, December 22, an aged resident of the Lombardy district, William Lawson, passed away in the Smiths Falls Public Hospital after a period of failing health.

The deceased was a son of the late Adam Lawson and Maria Morrison and had resided in this community all his life. He was born November 26, 1873. His wife, a former Letitia Stephens, predeceased him 27 years ago.

Left to mourn are one son, Mervin, at home, and one daughter, Mrs. Norman Pegg; three grandchildren and one great grandchild, also a brother, Matthew, residing near Carleton Place.

Following the service on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Mr. Albert Hayhoe at the Amy Funeral Home, the remains were laid to rest in the Union cemetery at Lombardy. The pallbearers were Rex Stilwell, Thomas Gillespie, Kenneth Moore, Howard Looby, James Strickland and Richard Avery.

Ferrier - In Perth, on Saturday, August 4th, Mr. John A. Ferrier, aged 72 years.

Ferrier - After conducting his harness business as usual last Friday, Mr. John A. Ferrier was suddenly seized with illness that night and death followed early on Saturday morning the news of which caused a great shock to his wide circle of friends and acquaintances in Perth and surrounding district. The late John A. Ferrier was born in Perth on Dec. 17, 1850 of Scottish parents who in the early days had founded a harness and saddlery business in Perth in which he was an apprentice. In his earlier days he resided in the United States, later returning to Perth and for years engaged in business at the corner of Gore and Herriott streets, and afterwards on Wilson street West and his products had a wide sale. Deceased was of a quiet and retiring disposition but enjoyed the respect and esteem of all with whom he came in contact either in a business or friendly way. Deceased was a member of St. Andrew's Church in long standing and in which he was a faithful and constant worshipper. Surviving are his wife, formerly Miss Katherine Buffam of Fallbrook, two sons Messrs. Bertrand and Byron of Perth, three daughters, Miss Helen of Perth, Mrs. Leister and Miss Anna of Toronto, one sister, Mrs. Thomas Gibbons of Brockville, and one brother, Mr. William Ferrier of Perth. The funeral was held from his late residence on Monday afternoon to Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Scott conducting the services. The pallbearers were Messrs. G.G. Farmer, Peter Hope, W.J. Rabb, W.J. Flett, T.J. Devlin and John Croskery.

On Monday morning, after a severe struggle for nearly a fortnight with the prevailing influenza, our much esteemed townsman Walter Ferrier died at his residence on Gore Street at the age of 36 years. His death was the source of general sorrow in town where his genial and agreeable manners and his sterling integrity were known and appreciated. He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon under the auspices of A.O.U. Workmen Society of which he was a member. Mr. Ferrier conducted a prosperous harness business here for some years and was an honorable businessman. He was on the Board of Managers of St. Andrew's (Presbyterian) Church and from his religious convictions was well prepared to die. He leaves a widow and child. Mr. Ferrier held life assurance in the Workmen's Society, Canada Life, for $5,000.

Died; Mar 26, 1948 Mrs. Jane Gibbins passed away on Friday. Native of Perth was very active despite the advanced age of 91.
Mrs Jane Susan Gibbins in her 92nd year passed away very suddenly Friday Morning at 17 John St, the home of Miss Anna Irvine, where she had resided. She was born at Perth July 7, 1856, the daughter of John Ferrier of Kenteleen, Scotland and his wife the former Sussanah Lawson of Glasgow Scotland.
She was married in Perth to the late Thomas Gibbins who predeceased her on April 20, 1937. A resident of Brockville for about 77 years, who was very active despite her advanced years and up and about all winter long being down town Thursday. She was in the process of dressing when taken by a heart seizure Friday morning. She was the oldest and one of the original members of St. Pauls Anglican church and was very active in all organizations of the church up until the last. She was very well know in Brockville and was highly respected by a wide circle of friends.
The last of her family, she leaves to mourn her loss one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Elliott of Ottawa, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The remains will rest at the G. W. Paul funeral parlour until Monday afternoon when the service will be conducted in St. Pauls church at 2o'clock. Internment will be made in Oakland cemetery (Brockville Recorder & Times Issue March 27, top right, Page 1),

ROBERT W. WHITSON

Robert Walter Whitson, an old and highly respected citizen of Northfield passed away at his home Sunday afternoon, Jan. 3, at 1:30 o'clock. Altho Mr. Whitson had been ill for three weeks, his death came as a distinct shock to his family and friends. A cerebral hemorrhage was the direct cause of his death.

Mr. Whitson was born at Smith's Falls, Ontario, Canada, April 30, 1951, the oldest son of John and Jane Whitson. When he was sixteen years of age, his family moved to Minnesota, and settled at Cascade where his father was engaged in the milling business for many years. On October 17, 1872, Mr. Robert Whitson was united in marriage with Miss Ada Bullock, and for fifty-nine years they have lived happily together, always in this vicinity where Mr. Whitson was engaged in farming, and for the last seventeen years of his active life he was engaged by the government as rural mail carrier. He retired from that service in 1920.

Surviving Mr. Whitson are his wife and three of their four children, Dealton, the son living in Seattle, Washington, and two daughters, Mrs. L. C. Davenport (Rose) of Dennison, and Mrs. R. L. Cowell (Clara) of Mt. Vernon, Wash. A third daughter, Mrs. Casey Mossman (Minnie) in Whittier, Calif., preceded her father in death February 9, 1929. In addition ot his wife and children, Mr. Whitson is survived by three brothers, William, of Berthold, N. D.; Albert, of Fergus Falls; and Russell, of Northfield, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Nephew, Sawyer, N. D., and Mrs. Susan Thompson, Fort Recovery, Ohio. There are also seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

As a young man, Mr. Whitson identified himself with the Methodist Episcopal church at Stanton, transferring later to the Northfield Methodist church where his membership has been actively maintained for nearly thirty years, and where he was always a regular attendant, sincere worshipper and faithful supporter. As a husband and father, a neighbor, a citizen, a Christian, he leaves the memory of a good life quietly but steadfastly lived, of an especially kind and loving disposition, and of many acts of unselfish helpfulness, all of which will be a comfort to his aged wife, their children and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. H. L. Weiss officiating. A brief service at the home on East Sixth street at 1:45 preceded the service at the Methodist church. Interment was made in Northfield cemetery.

John and Jane's daughter Susanna Jane Whitson was born on December 9, 1854, in Smiths Falls/Brockville, Kitley Township, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada. She migrated to Minnesota with her parents in 1868. The story goes that Susie liked to sing and have fun and frequently attended the local dances. A man named Bill Thompson saw her there and insisted that his brother James, who was a widower, had to come meet her. He had been born in Knox County, Indiana, on November 13, 1848, the son of John Thompson and Elizabeth Emily Graves, and had come to Minnesota looking for work. There he had wed a young woman who had died giving birth to twins, who also died. It is likely that James' father John had served in Co. A, the 71st Ohio Valley Infantry, during the Civil War.

James did come and meet Susie, and they quickly began to court even though he felt he might be too old for her. She insisted that she loved him and they got married on November 22, 1877, in Minnesota. However, census records show that James Thompson was boarding with Susannah Whitson's family in Stanton, Goodhue County, Minnesota, in 1875, so perhaps their courtship actually happened a bit differently. James brought Susie back to Ohio in 1880, settling in Darke County and later in Mercer County where his parents and siblings were. Susie had six children from 1878 to 1893: Clure, Verna, Lloyd James, Erma Hazel, Edna Mabel, and Jane Emily. Both James and Susie were very active members of the First Church of God in Ft. Recovery, and he served as elder. Often in poor health, James died on July 25, 1927, in Ft. Recovery, Mercer County, Ohio. Despite her advanced age, Susie took on the task of raising her young granddaughter Louella after her daughter Mabel died young. Susanna Jane Thompson died on February 1, 1937, in Ft. Recovery, Mercer County, Ohio. Both she and James are buried in Springhill Cemetery, west of Ft. Recovery.

Services for William Alexander Whitson, 87, resident the Berthold area since 1903, who died in a Minot hospital Dec. 19 after an illness of several months, were held Dec. 22 in the Berthold Congregational church with Amel Whitwer officiating. Butial was in the Wildrose cemetery of Berthold.The Thompson-Larson Funeral home of Minot was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Harry White, Bernard Wold, William Dokken, Lawrence Shelkey and Newton Spriggens of Berthold and Lloyd Rowe of Minot. Honorary pallbearers were Simon DeVelt, Joseph Chase, Vern Knight, Ray Nichols, William Roberts and Herbert Birdsall of Berthold and Henry Finke, Otto Gross and Andy Metz of Minot.

Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Fred Pond of Spokane, who had been with her father during his illness, and two sons, Ralph of Bakersfield, Calif., and Herbert of Seattle. His sons had both visited him in Minot before his death.

Albert G. Whitson

Numbered among those who have stood representative of marked progressiveness and civil loyalty in Fergus Falls and who have contributed a large share to the industrial and civic advancement of the community is Albert Whitson, who is one of the prominent business men in that section of Minnesota in which he lives. In his chosen field of endeavor he has accomplished most valuable results through his earnest and well-directed business policies. A man of recognized ability and judgement, he is regarded as an authority on questions of civil importance, and as a consequence of his admirable traits of character has reached a position of distinction in his chosen field of industry.

Albert G. Whitson was born near Smith Falls, Canada, on April 18, 1867, and is a son of John and Jane (Lawson) Whitson, representatives of an honored family, known in Minnesota for almost fifty years. His father was a farmer and miller by vocation and the family were in modest financial circumstances during the early years of the subject of this sketch. The parents left Canada in 1868 and moved to Granville Mills, Minnesota, where the father engaged in the milling business for ten years. The family then moved to Owatonna, Minnesota, where Mr. Whitson returned to the occupation of farming, until the year 1884. In the spring of that year he came to Otter Tail county and settled in Aastad, six miles from Fergus Falls. Shorty after his arrival in that township John Whitson was made foreman of the waterworks, which was in the course of building at that time.

As a boy Albert Whitson received his educational advantages in the schools of Northfield and Owatonna. The career of the subject of this sketch has been one of various occupations, the first of which was railroading. Later he engaged in farming in Orwdl and the wide experience gained in these two fields proved to be extremely valuable to him later in life. In 1904 he moved to Fergus Falls and engaged in the livery business. Later he was associated with a Mr. Elliot, and took over the control of the ice plant on Stanton avenue. They sold out to John W. Campbell in July, 1912.

The business of Elliott & Whitson was opened in the same year, when they bought out F. H. Gary, dealer in coal, lime, and cement. Since that time the firm of Elliott & Whitson has been doing an unusally successful business. In his chosen field of work, Mr. Whitson has made a large circle of friends, his ability and thorough business methods have won for him a place of distinction.

The marriage of Albert Whitson to Mary Elliott, the daughter of John Elliott, was solemnized on January 9, 1891. They are the parents of the following children: Elsie and Emile, who are teaching school at Western; George and Sidney, who are at home with their parents. In fraternal affairs Mr. Whitson has always taken an active interest. He is a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and the Modern Woodmen of America. In his political relations he is affiliated with the Republican party.

Funeral Services for Russell Whitson Were Held Tuesday

Funeral services for the late Russell A. Whitson, who passed away Saturday, August 12, at the Northfield hospital, following a heart attack were held this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home and 2:30 at the Methodist church with the Rev. Lo Roy H. Klaus officiating. Interment was at the Northfield cemetery. W. W. Gibson, Roy Parker, Earl Baker, C. E. Grimes, George La Pointe and George Larkin were pallbearers.

Russel [sic] Alamond Whitson, son of John and Jane Lawson Whitson, was born December 25, 1872 at Cascade, Goodhue county. When five years old, he moved with his parents to Owatonna where they lived for six years and then they moved to Fergus Falls. While in Fergus Falls, his father died, and with his mother, the family came to Northfield when Mr. Whitson was 21 years old. Northfield has been his home ever since that time. He conducted a dray line in Northfield for 17 years and then he became a rural mail carrier for 33 years, 25 of which he worked out of the Northfield post office. Mr. Whitson married January 10, 1906 in Northfield to Sigrid Ann Grove, who preceded him in death. One daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Hamann (Edna) and one granddaughter, Sigred Ann Hamann, survive him, as do two brothers, William A. Whitson of Berthod, N.D. and Albert G. Whitson of Fergus Falls.

Crash kills Ottawa-nurse, mother
Recent retirement gave devoted pair time together

A recently retired Civic Hospital nurse and her 78-year-old mother from Perth are dead following a car crash on Highway 15 near Lombardy, Ont. Carole Ann Evans, 57, and her mother Patricia Rutherford had just attended a funeral in Perth, Ont., Saturday and were returning from lunch in the village of Lombardy, about 70 kilometres southwest of Ottawa, when then-car was hit head-on by a car driven by Jeffrey Brohman, 19, at about 1 p.m. Police say Mr. Brohman, of Smiths Falls, was driving northbound on the road when he hit the east side gravel shoulder then returned to the roadway where his Dodge Shadow collided with a car driven by Ms. Evans. Ms. Evans and her mother were pronounced dead at the scene, and Mr. Brohman was taken to Smith Falls Hospital with major injuries. Police are investigating the accident, and charges may be laid pending their findings. An accident reconstruction-ist is assisting in the investigation to determine whether excessive speed was a factor. Mrs. Rutherford, whose husband died a year ago, lived her entire life in Perth, and Ms. Evans, an only child, grew up there before moving to Ottawa to work at the hospital. The accident has left members of their extended family in pain. "This is the hardest day I think I've ever spent," said Ms. Evans' first cousin, John Jarbeau, from Perth, where family members gathered yesterday to comfort each other. "Yesterday, their branch of our family died, and nobody here is doing very well. There's a lot of grief here today." Ms. Rutherford was well known in the Perth area and was active in the church and several service organizations. She was an avid golfer who held the women's title at the Links of Tay Golf Club for several years running. "That was her," said Mr. Jarbeau. "Community, church and golf. She was a beautiful person who put others' needs before hers." Mr. Jarbeau said Ms. Evans, who never married, worked in the Civic's blood unit until retiring about six months ago. "She was devoted to her work and her mother," he said. "She was the consummate nurse, always willing to help out any way she could." A double funeral has been tentatively planned for Wednesday, Mr. Jarbeau said. "They were about as close as a mother and child get," Mr. Jarbeau said. "In a way I guess it was fortunate that they died together because they can enter the next phase together. But it's hard to see that when you're feeling so much pain." Mr. Brohman's father, John, said yesterday his son was "in fairly good condition" with a broken collarbone and numerous cuts and bruises. He expected he would be able to talk to police today. He said his son didn't remember anything about the accident. "From what I can gather, there was a truck passing two (southbound) cars and he went to the shoulder to avoid hitting the truck head on, and then lost control." Father Identifies Girl Who Fell From Monument on Island
Port Clinton, July 30
William J. Lester of Hazel Park, Mich., has identified the body of the girl who plunged to her death last Friday from the top of the 352-foot Perry Memorial monument at Put-in Bay as his daughter, Betty, 18, Ottawa County Coroner George A. Poe ruled the death suicide.

The father said Miss Lester had started for Cedar Point with her sister, Helene, 15, and a girl friend, but got off the boat at Put-in Bay without the knowledge of her companions. When the girls returned home they reported the disappearance of Betty and the father, without knowing of the deaty at the island, started for Put-in Bay where he learned what had occurred and he then came to Port Clinton and identified the body as that of his daughter.

He stated that the daughter had been ill for several months and at times became despondent. The parents and sisters, Helene and Joanne, survive.

everend John Charles Ferrier 1943 ~ 2018 Ferrier, John Charles passed away on December 21, 2018 at the age of 75 years. John was predeceased by his father Byron in 1975 and his mother Kathleen in 1983. John was born June 12th, 1943. He was a native of Preston (now Cambridge) Ontario where he attended public and high school. From 1960 to 1967 he worked briefly in the cost accounting department of B.F. Goodrich (Canada) Ltd. in Kitchener, Ontario. Later he was employed as a land title searcher for the law firm of McGibbon, Harper & Haney in Waterloo, Ontario. John began his studies at Waterloo Lutheran University in 1967, graduating with a B.A. in English Literature in 1971. John went on to study at Knox College, University of Toronto from 1971 to 1974, graduating with the degree of Master of Divinity. Ordained as a minister in The Presbyterian Church in Canada in May of 1974, John was appointed to the pastoral charge of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Chauvin and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wainwright in Alberta. He was the minister there from 1974 to 1979. John was inducted as minister in the Knox Presbyterian Church in Weyburn, Saskatchewan in June of 1979, where he remained for the rest of his career, retiring in April of 2006. John served a term as Moderator of the Presbytery of Edmonton, a term as Moderator of the Presbytery of Assiniboia and a term as Moderator of the Synod of Saskatchewan. He was also a Clerk of the Presbytery of Assiniboia for eight years. John became an Honourary Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch in Chauvin, Alberta as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 47 in Weyburn. He served as the Chaplain to the Weyburn branch since 1980. John was awarded the Meritorious Life Membership in the Royal Canadian Legion by the Weyburn Branch in 1980. John was also appointed a voluntary Chaplain for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1993 and for the Weyburn Fire Department in 2003. John was also the recipient of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce, the "Golden Spike Award" for service to the community in 2003. John will be lovingly remembered by his brother, the Reverend Jim Ferrier (Olga) of Maxville, Ontario; nephew, Alexander "Alex" (Amber) Ferrier of Ottawa, Ontario and great nephew, Toben Ferrier. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan and the Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. from Knox Presbyterian Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with the Reverend Jay Song officiating. Funeral Lunch & Fellowship will follow the service at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 47. Interment will take place at a later date. Carole will be sadly missed by her aunts and uncles, cousins, colleagues at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and many good friends. Friends may call at the Blair & Son Funeral Home, Perth, Tuesday, June 24 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Crash kills Ottawa-nurse, mother Recent retirement gave devoted pair time together BY JAKE RUPERT The Ottawa Citizen
A recently retired Civic Hospital nurse and her 78-year-old mother from Perth are dead following a car crash on Highway 15 near Lombardy, Ont. Carole Ann Evans, 57, and her mother Patricia Rutherford had just attended a funeral in Perth, Ont., Saturday and were returning from lunch in the village of Lombardy, about 70 kilometres southwest of Ottawa, when then-car was hit head-on by a car driven by Jeffrey Brohman, 19, at about 1 p.m. Police say Mr. Brohman, of Smiths Falls, was driving northbound on the road when he hit the east side gravel shoulder then returned to the roadway where his Dodge Shadow collided with a car driven by Ms. Evans. Ms. Evans and her mother were pronounced dead at the scene, and Mr. Brohman was taken to Smith Falls Hospital with major injuries. Police are investigating the accident, and charges may be laid pending their findings. An accident reconstruction-ist is assisting in the investigation to determine whether excessive speed was a factor. Mrs. Rutherford, whose husband died a year ago, lived her entire life in Perth, and Ms. Evans, an only child, grew up there before moving to Ottawa to work at the hospital. The accident has left members of their extended family in pain. "This is the hardest day I think I've ever spent," said Ms. Evans' first cousin, John Jarbeau, from Perth, where family members gathered yesterday to comfort each other. "Yesterday, their branch of our family died, and nobody here is doing very well. There's a lot of grief here today." Ms. Rutherford was well known in the Perth area and was active in the church and several service organizations. She was an avid golfer who held the women's title at the Links of Tay Golf Club for several years running. "That was her," said Mr. Jarbeau. "Community, church and golf. She was a beautiful person who put others' needs before hers." Mr. Jarbeau said Ms. Evans, who never married, worked in the Civic's blood unit until retiring about six months ago. "She was devoted to her work and her mother," he said. "She was the consummate nurse, always willing to help out any way she could." A double funeral has been tentatively planned for Wednesday, Mr. Jarbeau said. "They were about as close as a mother and child get," Mr. Jarbeau said. "In a way I guess it was fortunate that they died together because they can enter the next phase together. But it's hard to see that when you're feeling so much pain." Mr. Brohman's father, John, said yesterday his son was "in fairly good condition" with a broken collarbone and numerous cuts and bruises. He expected he would be able to talk to police today. He said his son didn't remember anything about the accident. "From what I can gather, there was a truck passing two (southbound) cars and he went to the shoulder to avoid hitting the truck head on, and then lost control." Suddenly at University Hospital, London on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in her 70th year. Loving mother of Sean Purdy of London. Beloved sister of George Howison of Brockville. Fondly remembered by her cousins, John Howison and his wife Anne, Judy Johnston and her husband Richard and their families and by many dear friends and acquaintances. Rosemary was an elementary school teacher for many years in Newmarket and London. She was a member of Oxwell, Horton Street Seniors, and the Red Hat Society. Rosemary enjoyed traveling and her involvement with the Church of St. John the Evangelist. Friends may call on Friday, March 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the James A. Harris Funeral Home, 220 St. James Street at Richmond, London. A memorial service will be conducted at the Church of St. John the Evangelist, 280 St. James Street at Wellington, London on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation with interment in Brockville. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Association would be gratefully acknowledged.

Barbara Ann Mather Working with animal rescue was 'very important part of her life'.
Barbara Ann Mather was born on Aug. 31, 1936, and grew up on West Cedar St., Livingston, N.J. She attended public school and, in 1954, graduated from Grover Cleveland High School. After her studies, she was a broker in Manhattan, N.Y., firms but then, for many years, she was employed by Mr. Robert Martin and, until her retirement, she worked at the Martin Family Fund at their office in Saddle River, N.J. However, a very important part of her life was as president of the board of PAWS (Pound Animals Welfare Society) where she dealt with employees, volunteers and prospective adopters, not to mention the innumerable animals that PAWS, being the local pound, took in. After the loss of the building, she was involved in the rescue and placement of the animals. It was only after her third heart-valve replacement that she was forced to retire and limit her activities. After a prolonged battle with Alzheimers, she passed away in the early morning of Dec. 20, 2019, in the Green Hill Nursing Home.
She is survived by a couple of cousins and many friends. Friends may gather at the Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St., Montclair, N.J., on Monday, Dec. 30, at 9:45 a.m., prior to the interment at Crest Haven Memorial Park in Clifton, N.J.
