    Notes:

(Research):It is interesting that I cannot find birth records for any of this family although baptisms may exist.

I have some thought that ?u?Mary Ann?/u? who was born 4 months after Isabella marriage to William may have been James' child as registered on her death certificate but was raised by Isabella. James seems to have preferred the military life and may have been involved in travel and training/management with them.

It is interesting that ?u?Lucy's?/u? death certificate also lists James as her father.

Could it be that James and Isabella had a relationship, Mary Ann was on her way, and William stepped in to marry Isabella because James was elsewhere? Could this be where the dual name James William started to appear in the records? What became of William?

William mysteriously disappears, never to be found. James cannot marry Isabella because William's death is not known or recorded. The census taker in 1871 is confused and enters both names?

Where a mother's name is recorded on most of the children's death certificates, some do not mention a father.

I think the true story will never be known, lost in family/community lore, maybe whispered about but never formally acknowledged.

Gladys Ennis, 27 months old, was found choking in a pile of mud by her mother, Lucy Ennis (Gladys died in 1993 at age 94, the last survivor of the slide)

    Buried:
ashes scatterd at the edge of Frank Slide, marker in 152 St. Frank, Alberta

also recorded as Frank Slide Memorial Cemetery, Crowsnest Pass, Canmore Census Division, Alberta, Canada

This small cemetery was informally established in 1922 with the discovery and burial of six victims of the Frank Slide of 1903. The cemetery was formalized in 1953. Since then two additional persons have had their ashes scattered here.

Although their memory is honored here, please note that this cemetery is NOT the burial place for other victims of the Frank Slide. Memorials for the victims whose bodies were never recovered are at https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2663855/the-frank-slide .

    The Frank Slide
On April 29, 1903 a massive landslide fell from the side of Turtle Mountain into the valley below, known as the Frank Slide after the nearby village of Frank. About ninety persons were killed, and only a few bodies were recovered. The memorials recorded here are for those persons whose bodies were never found, and remain beneath the Frank Slide. Information on the victims can be found at the nearby Frank Slide Interpretive Centre.

Memorials here do not include six victims whose bodies were discovered in 1922 and were interred in the Frank Slide Memorial Cemetery (ID 2663655). The Frank Cemetery (ID 2603311), which served the village of Frank from 1901 until 1903, was buried beneath the Frank Slide so no victims of the Frank Slide are buried there.

Gladys married Emile Henri Verquin on 25 Jan 1934 in Pinchercreek, Alberta, Canada. Emile was born on 25 Apr 1906 in Nord, France; died on 31 Aug 1994. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    DEATH OF EDWARD ENNIS
An unusual cloud of gloom was cast over Blairmore and district on Sunday morning, when the news spread of the rather unexpected death of Edward, twenty-two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Ennis, pioneer residents.
Edward was taken ill on the Tuesday previous and his illness developed into pneumonia within a couple of ays [sic]. Hope for his recovery, however, was entertained until Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, when he quite unexpectedly passed on.
Edward was very well known throughout the district and was looked upon by everyone as being of a most admirable disposition. He was during school days a room-mate of "Billy" Hamilton, whose tragic death occurred near Drumheller last week at about the same age.
Edward is survived by a young wife, formerly Miss Doris Williams; also his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Delbert, and four sisters: Elaine, residing here; Mrs. J. A. McLean, residing north of Lundbreck; and Mrs. Thomas Clark and Miss Marion Ennis, residing at Vancouver, with [sic] all of whom general sympathy is extended.
Funeral took place yesterday afternoon and was largely attended. Following an impressive service conducted at the home by Rev. A. D. Currie, the remains were laid to rest in the Blairmore cemetery.
Two large drays were necessary to convey the numerous and beautiful floral tributes.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Clark and Miss Marion Ennis were present from Vancouver.

Family/Spouse: Doris Williams. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
