    Died:
    Robert was born April 25,1779 in Stevenston, Aryshire, Scotland, the son of Robert Love and Elizabeth Lockhart. He was married in Ireland about 1811/1812 to Deborah Donnahue. Robert was a veteran of the 42nd regiment during the Napoleonic Wars. Robert was a weaver by trade and when the woolen mills put in machinery he had no work, so he enlisted in the 42nd Highlanders in December of 1806 in the 5th Garrison Regiment which was raised in Dublin.

    The following was taken from the Regimental Muster Book:

    * 1808 - Garrison moved in latter part of year to Cork.
    * 1810 - 1811 - Garrison wintered in Nenogh, County Tipperary - Oct 29, 1810 Robert Love on furlough to January 29, 1811. This was during much of the time of the regiments first visit to Nenagh, Tipperary.
    * 1811 - 1813 - Returned to Dublin.
    * 1813 - 1813 - Garrison at Nenagh, Tipperary.
    * 1814, Dec. 5 - Regiment disbanded.
    * 1816, Aug. 31 - Enlisted in 42nd headquarters in Glasgow.
    * 1816, Sept. 25 - Drafted to 1st Battalion.
    * 1817, April - Regiment left Glasgow, proceeded to Ireland, landed at Donaghadee, County Down, and marched to Armagh, County of Armagh.
    * 1818, June - Stationed at Strabane, County Tyrone.
    * 1919, May - Detached duty in latter month in either Carrickmacross, Monaghan, or Coveragh.
    * 1819, April 16 - Discharged.

    After his discharge, Robert went to Ireland and was still a weaver by trade. When weaving became mechanized he decided to emigrate to Canada. Robert, his wife Deborah and three children sailed on the ship, Commerce, leaving Scotland May 11, 1821, and landed in Quebec on June 20, 1821. They located in Lanark County on August 1, 1821 and received their deed on July 4, 1837. Their farm was Lot 4, Concession IV between Maberly and Elphin, North Sherbrooke Twp.

    Mary was born in Scotland about 1814, the daughter of Robert Love and Deborah Donnahue. She was married to Thomas Rutherford, and they lived at Lot 4, Con 1, of North Sherbrooke Township, Lanark County, Ontario. Mary was left with 5 young children when Thomas died in 1850. Mary died Jan.24,1898 at the age of 84 years.

    Robert was born June 9,1822, in North Sherbrooke Township, Lanark County, Ontario, the son of Robert Love and Deborah Donnahue. He was married March 13,1849 at Dalhousie Township, to Mary Turnbull, daughter of Thomas Turnbull and Elizabeth Bryce. Elizabeth died in 1864 and Robert married a 2nd time on July 17,1866, to Jane Hart, daughter of William Hart and Helen Matthie. This was Jane's 2nd marriage also, she was previously married to James Conroy, son of Edward Conroy and Rosann Shields. Robert died from cancer, on Jan.19,1885 at Lavant Township, Lanark County.

    Death - The Lanark Era - July 5,1916 -
    Elphin, June 18th, 1916, Marion Love, relict of the late David Bryce, aged 85 years & 8 mos. She was born in North Sherbrooke Oct. 20th, 1830 a daughter of the late Robert Love, a Scottish pioneer and veteran of the 42nd Regt. during the Napoleonic War. Her mother was of Irish descent. The last of a family of seven, she had lived for some time at Keywest, MN, returning here about 18 years ago. She leaves but one stepson, R.J. Bryce of Corey, Colorado. Burial in Crawford's Cemetery.

    Marion was born Oct.20,1830 in North Sherbrooke Township, Lanark County, Ontario, the daughter of Robert Love and Deborah Donnahue. She was married Sept.20,1866 to David Buchanan Bryce, of North Sherbrooke. Marion died at North Sherbrooke on June 18,1916 from heart failure.

    Bryce
    There passed peacefully away at Elphin on Sunday, June18th, at a littel before the noon hour a much respected and esteemed lady, relict of the late David Bryc, whose maiden name wa Marion Love, a daughter of the late Robt Love, a Scottish poineer settler of North Sherbrooke, and a veteran of the 42nd Regiment during the Napoleonic war. Her mother was of Irish descent. Deceased was the last of a family of seven and was born in North Sherbrooke on Oct 20th1830 and at the time of her death was eighty-five years of age. She possessed a robust constitution all through her life up to about three months ago when her health began to fail her and she gradually grew weaker until Sunday when the call came from the Great Beyond and even at this advanced age she still retained allthe faculties of her youthful days. Mrs. Bryce lived for a number of years at Kekywest, Minn until about eighteen years ago when she returned to the place of her birth. she leaves to mourn her loss one step-son, R.J. Bryce of Cortez, Colo, also a number of nieces and nephews of this place.

    Deceased was a devout member of the Presbyterian Church, a kind and affectionate neighbor and possessed a cheeerful disposition, always looking on the bright side of life.

    The funeral was held on Monday afternoon at three o'clock, service being conducted at the church by the Rev. A.J. McMullen. Afterwards the remains were conveyed to Crawford's cemetery and laid to rest. The pallbearers were Messrs Wm. Rutherford, Thomas Love, John L. Love, James Love, four nephews of the deceased, and James Crain and Wm. Balfour. The floral offerings were: Wreath, Mrs Wm Balfour, Miss M.J. Weir, Miss Bella McVean, Crosses, Miss Mary Ferguson, Miss Flossie Gordon and cross and bouquet from Miss Lena McIntyre.

    John was the son of James Love & Marion Twaddle. Marion (1819-1899)is buried in the Twaddle Burial Grounds, Lot 2, Con 12 East, of North Shebrooke Township, Lanark County. Information on the Twaddle Burial Grounds say her husband, James Love (1812-1894), was buried in Crawford Cemetery with no headstone. John T. Love was married on Feb.23,1885 to Janet McDougall, daughter of Alexander McDougall & Mary McTavish. After Janet's death in 1913, John married a 2nd time on April 21,1915 to Mary Ann (McLellan) Ferguson, a widow of William Ferguson of Lavant. She was the daughter of Robert McLellan & Ellen Ferguson.

    Obituary - The Lanark Era Newspaper - Issue of Wednesday, October 17, 1928 -
    In Bathurst, Tues. Oct. 2nd, 1928, John T. Love of Clyde Forks, aged 75 years & 5 mos. He was born in Lavant, May 16th, 1855, a son of the late Mr. & Mrs. James Love and except for the past 5 months, lived all his life in Lavant Twp. He was twice married. His first wife being Janet McDougall of Elphin, who died 15 years ago. They had a family of three sons and three daughters; James Love, Clyde Forks; Alex. Love, McDonald's Corners; Edwin Love, Folger Station; Mrs. T. C. Blackburn, Bathurst; Mrs. George Alberts, Regina, SK; and Miss Minnie Love of Brightside. His second marriage was to Mrs. Ferguson, who survives him. He is also survived by one brother, George Love of Minnesota, and by one sister, Mrs. James Dobbie of Watson's Corners. Burial in Crawford's Cemetery.

    Sergeant - Sunday afternoon, March 11th, saw the close of a very industrious, useful life, when Mrs. John Sergeant passed peacefully away at her home in North Sherbrooke, in the 85th year of her age. Mrs. Sergeant, whose maiden name was Deborah Rutherford, was born on the 24th of May, in 1843, on a farm within two miles of her late home, and was the second eldest, and the last surviving member of a family of six, being a daughter of the late Thomas Rutherford and Mary Love, whose parents were among the pioneer settlers, who emigrated from the Old Land to hew their homes out of the then thick forest. After her marriage to John Sergeant of the same Township in 1860, and who predeceased her some forty-six years ago, she came to reside in the home where she died, having lived the whole of her life-time in the one community, where she was at all times held in the very highest respect by her neighbors and friends. Deceased had been in fairly good health up until last July, when she suffered a slight stroke and thereafter her condition was alternately hopeful and then critical, but her age imposed heavy odds against recovery. The late Mrs. Sergeant was an exemplary woman all through her lifetime, an honest, kind neighbor and as a mother she was unexcelled. Left a widow when a comparatively young woman, her love for her home and family never wavered and it can truly be said of her that self was always lost sight of in her endeavor to minister to the needs of others. Left to mourn are four sons and one daughter: Robert, of Harper; Thomas of Donaldson; William on the homestead; Joseph and Mrs. Robert (Minnie) Kennedy, of Elphin. Two sons and two daughters are deceased. Also are left fifteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. The funeral was held from her late home on Tuesday afternoon. With a short private service at the home and a public service at two o'clock in Elphin Presbyterian Church of which deceased was a member for a great number of years. Both services were impressively and ably conducted by the Rev. Mr. Acheson, of Montreal. A very large concourse of friends and acquaintances gathered at both the home and church to pay their last tribute of respect to one whose life was so clearly marked by thoughtfulness for others. The pallbearers were all neighbors only the first two who were nephew and cousin respectively, Albert Rutherford, Thomas Love, Herbert Parks, Malcolm McIntyre, William and Richard Buchan. Floral tributes were a pillow from the family; wreath from Mr. and Mrs. John Sergeant of Harper, and a cross from the Elphin Women's Institute. To the many sorrowing relations the sympathy of the public in general is very generously extended.

    Deborah was born in North Sherbrooke Township, Lanark County, the daughter of Thomas Rutherford and Mary Love. On July 20,1860, she was married to John Sergeant. They had a family of 9 children :
    - Robert, married Rebecca Avery.
    - Mary, married Amos Pitcher.
    - Thomas, married Mary Thomson
    - William.
    - John, married ???
    - George.
    - Emma, married George Devlin.
    - Minnie, was 2nd wife of Robert Kennedy.
    - Joseph, married Mary Ann Dickson.
    The 1881 Census of Lanark County shows Deborah as a widow at the age of 37 years with 8 children ranging in age from 3 to 20 years. She was also pregnant at the time with her youngest child, Joseph. Her husband John died in Dec. 1880.

    At Elphin, Monday, April 21st, Mary Rutherford, wife of Peter Ferguson, aged 55 years. Burial in Crawford Cemetery.

    We regret to record the death of Mrs Peter Ferguson, of North Sherbrooke, which took place on April 21st. The deceased, during a period of temporary mental derangement took a quantity of paris green, from the effects of which she died. Medical skill was obtained and everything possible was done to counteract the effects of the poison, but in vain. The body was interred in the Crawford cemetery. The husband and friends of the deceased have the sincerest sympathy of the community.

    LAWRENCE WOOD OBITUARY
    Lawrence passed away suddenly and peacefully in Perth on Saturday, September 19, 2020 with his wife of 62 years by his side. He was a devoted loving husband and best friend of Miriam (Gemmill) and loving father to Debbie (Dan) Keaney, David (Anastasia) Wood and Dianne (late Brian Demers) Wood. Lawrence was predeceased by his son Jim in 2008 and will be sadly missed by his daughter-in-law Brenda Wood. He was the proud grandfather of Sharon, Sabrina, Victoria, Meaghan, Abigail, Lisa, Taylor, Ryley and their families. Lawrence is survived by his sister Iona Farrell and is predeceased by his parents Robert and Lulu (Blackburn) Wood and his brothers and sisters Evelyn, Earl, Elaine, Arden, Lloyd, Eldon, Lemuel, Roy and Carl. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a service will be held privately for his family. In remembrance of Lawrence, contributions to the Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation, 33 Drummond St. West, Perth K7H 2K1 or Crawford Cemetery, c/o Elaine DeLisle, 3020 Elphin/Maberly Road, McDonald's Corners, Ontario K0G 1M0.
