In Lanark, Mrs. Peter McLaren, Sr. she was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1802 and came to this country at the age of 16 yrs. with her parents. Later she married a Peter McLaren, who died six years ago. They had three sons and one daughter; John, at Pine Grove; Dr. Peter McLaren, Ormstown, Que; David, 12th line of Drummond; Mrs. James McLaren (Bella), of Pine Grove. Burial in Lanark Village cemetery. Died Oct. 2nd.

Janet Stewart was born in 1802 in Glasgow, Lanakshire, Scotland. In 1818 she emigrated with her parents to Lanark, Ontario, Canada. There she married "Big" Peter McLaren on May 1, 1841. Janet and Peter raised four children.

David McLaren, second son of "Big" Peter McLaren and Janet Stewart, was born April 10, 1844 in the family home at Pine Grove, Lanark Township, Ontario, Canada. Still living with his parents, David married his second cousin Margaret McLaren (daughter of "Little" Peter McLaren) on June 16, 1868. He had become a lumber man, working for his cousin Senator Peter McLaren in various capacities. Clearing trees was both profitable and necessary as the area around Lanark transitioned to farming, and when the timber industry began to slow he became a farmer himself. He moved to Drummond Township, where he and Margaret raised four boys and five girls. Margaret died in 1898, at age 50, of "consumption," which is now known as tuberculosis. The disease was extremely infectious and, in the age before antibiotics, greatly feared. The family tore down and then re-built their home to avoid contamination. David was highly regarded throughout the area and became known as "The Grand Old Man of Drummond."

David married Margaret McLaren on 16 Jun 1868. John McLaren was the third son of "Big" Peter McLaren and Janet Stewart, born September 3, 1846 on the family farm in Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. When his father died in 1890 John took possession of the farm that his father had purchased in 1839 and assumed care for his widowed mother. Agnes "Aggie" Mitchell worked as a domestic, helping John care for his mother, and lived with them on the farm. John married Aggie on January 27th, 1897.

Isabella McLaren, daughter of "Big" Peter McLaren and Janet Stewart, was born in Pine Grove, Lanark Township, Ontario, Canada on September 19, 1848. On November 24, 1875 she married her first cousin, James McLaren and they raised two children on James' family farm. Her husband died in 1907 and after the death of her brother John in 1911 she purchased "Pine Grove," the farm where she was born. She lived there until her death and it passed to her son James ? the third generation on the farm.

Janet Stewart "Nettie" McLaren, second daughter of David McLaren and Margaret McLaren, was born March 20, 1875. When her mother died of tuberculosis in 1898 Nettie and her older sister, Mary, became the "ladies" of the household, caring for their younger siblings ? in particular the twin boys born in 1886. Nettie remained single all her life, joking that "there were no more McLaren cousins to marry." (Her parents were first cousins and there had been several cousin marriages in the immediate family.)

Edwin Pierson "Peen" McLaren was born with his twin brother Wilfred McLaren on April 10, 1886 at the family home in Drummond Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. They were the last of nine children born to David McLaren and Margaret McLaren. Originally called by his middle name, he couldn't pronounce "Pierson" as a child and his best attempt became his moniker "Peen." As a young man he worked as a cheese maker and in the woolen mills of Lanark until he and his brothers took over the family farm. In October of 1927, at age 41, he married Amy Stewart Jamieson and they raised four children. One son, Ian Stirling, died at eight years of age.

Peacefully entered into rest at the Great War Memorial Hospital, in Perth, on Friday, October 2, 2015.
Son of the late Edwin Pierson McLaren and the late Amy (nee` Jamieson) McLaren, at the age of 85 years.
He is survived by his brother, Alan Grant (Marilyn) McLaren. He was predeceased by his sister Marjorie Stewart (Don) King and younger brother Ian Stirling McLaren and his niece Debra King. Fondly remembered by his nephews, Ian, Alan, Douglas, Barry, David, Peter, Paul, and niece Faith. Also survived by many grandnieces and nephews.
David retired after 35 years from Canada Post as the Post Master in Lanark Village, Ontario.
The family would like to thank Dr. Leigh Wahay and the nursing staff of the G.W.M. Hospital for the special care provided to David. Also a special thank you to Ray and Alice Pretty, Jack and Sandra Myers for their kindness and support given to David over the years.
To honour David's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to join us as we celebrate David's life with a service to be held at O'Dacre Family Funeral Home, 15 Victoria Street, Perth, on Thursday, October 15, at 11:00 am, followed by a reception in the funeral home.
Interment, Lanark Village Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation, would be appreciated.
Mr. McLaren's funeral arrangements are entrusted to the O'Dacre Family Funeral Home, Perth.
