- (Research):John Gilmour came to Canada in 1821 aboard the ship "David of London" along with his wife, Ann Whyte and three sons, Alan, Hugh, and James. All five of them settled in Ramsay Township, Lanark County, Ont. His eldest son, also named John, emigrated to Canada later around 1829, as he was serving in the British Army. He settled in Huntley Township.
