- Esther Carol Morton Plunkett Clark passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Hill City, Kansas. Esther Carol was born in the country near Minneapolis, Kansas on Easter Sunday, April 8, 1917 to Goldie and Cleetie Heberly Morton. She lived in the Minneapolis area until she reached 93.
Esther was raised on a farm 5 miles north of Minneapolis and attended District 88 Pleasant Ridge country school thru the 8th grade and graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1935. Esther was her mother's ears as she was deaf, but able to read lips. She married Dwight Plunkett in Minneapolis. She was very involved with the schools and supporting all the students.
Esther began working in the Ottawa County Clerk of the Court office in 1948, was elected to office in 1955 and retired in April 1982. She was active with the Business Professional Women, Legal Secretaries, President of Kansas Women for Highway Safety, Chamberettes, First Presbyterian Women's, Atlantean Brown, President of Minneapolis Alumni and was founding member of Rock City Board. Esther was Grand Marshall of the Minneapolis Alumni Parade in 1985, her 50th Class Reunion. She married David Clark in 1986 and moved to Ottawa County State Lake.
Esther lost her home at the lake to a tornado on May 5, 2007 and moved to Elkhorn Apartments in Minneapolis, the former site of her Grandparents Morton's home. She has resided at Dawson Place in Hill City since 2010.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister in law, Lowell and Lena Hendrixson Morton; and husbands Dwight Plunkett in 1977 and David Clark in 1996.
She is survived by son, Morton Plunkett of Hill City, KS; daughter and son in law, Marsha and John Celestino; granddaughter, Tonya (Patrick) Murphy; and two great grandsons, Parker and Riley Murphy; all of Grand Rapids, MI and many nieces and nephews. David's 3 daughters; Betty Cromer, Linda (Bill) Kobs, Beverly (Ron) Hendrix; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held for Esther on Saturday, December 14 at 2:00pm at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Visitation will be from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials may be made in Esther's honor to Minneapolis Alumni, Rock City or Minneapolis Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
