  	Her obituary appeared on 24 Mar 1955 in the Tribune Press in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, New York, as follows: "Mrs. Jane E. Townsley Dies Thursday, Mar. 17. Funeral services for Mrs. Jane Eliza Townsley, 73, widow of Harlan A. Townsley, who died last Thrsday morning about 3:30 at the Edward John Noble hospital, were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at her home, 92 Gordon street. The Rev. Merritt W. Updyke, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. "Mrs. Townsley died following a prolonged illness. She had been taken to the hospital last Wednesday evening after a heart attack. "She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Allie Lavack, Gouverneur and Mrs. A. Lawrence (Harriet) Lewis, Watertown; and one niece, Mrs. J. Elliott (Genevieve) Wood, Gouverneur. "She was born Dec. 24, 1881, daughter of James B. and Nancy Tait Welch and moved to this village with her family as a child. She was married to Harlan A. Townsley in Trinity Episcopal church by the Rev. William Braithwaite, then rector. "Mr. Townsley was a teller at the Bank of Gouveneur and an elder and treasurer of the First Presbyterian church here. He died 16 years ago.
