  	Her obituary appeared on 8 May 1940 in the Tribune Press in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence, New York, as follows: "Mrs. Emma Townsley Expires Sunday at 78. Funeral services were held for Mrs. Emma Miller Townsley from the home Wednesday with Rev. Joseph A. Schofield, jr., officiating. Burial was in the DeKalb cemetery. "Mrs. Townsley, 78, widow of Arthur Townsley of DeKalb, died Sunday. "Mrs. Townsley was born in the Town of DeKalb May 25, 1861, daughter of James and Mariette Spooner Miller. She was married to Arthur Townsley of DeKalb on Oct. 11, 1882 [?]. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. P. Rodger, then Presbyterian minister at DeKalb. "Surviving are two daughters, Miss Thena Townsley and Mrs. Morris B. Davies of Gouverneur, and sister, Mrs. Fred Holland of Gouverneur. A son, Harlan A. Townsley, died in October, 1939."
