  	Death of a Drummond Pioneer By the death of Mr. John McLenaghan, which occurred last Wednesday, July 21, at the homesteaad, 8th line Drummond, another of the sturdy old pioneer settlers of the county has passed away. The deceased came to this country with his widowed mother and five sisters in 1830. All of these have since died except the youngest, Mrs Padgett, who is now in her 82nd year. They settled in Drummond, and in 1836 Mr. McLenaghan took up land on the farm where he spent the best part of his life, and by thrift succeeded in accumulating quite a goodly portion of this world's goods. He leaves a wife (still hale and hearty in her 87th year) and four sons, Charles and Robert, of Carleton Place; John of Perth; and William on the homestead. In religion he was a Presbyterian and a consistent member of the church at Balderson. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon to Elmwood Cemetery, Perth and was very largely attended, showing in a measure the esteem in which the deceased gentleman was held. In the absence of Rev. Mr. McIlraith, Rev. Mr. Buchanan, of Lanark, conducted the service, and was assisted by Rev. Mr. Blair, of Chicago. The latter, who is visiting here just now, is a native of this section and was a comrade in his school days of the sons of the deceased. The aged widow and the other members of the family have the deep sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sorrow. Mr McLenaghan was 86 years of age. Carleton Place Hearld 30 Jul 1897
