  	1890, Friday May 30, The Almonte Gazette page 7 DEATHS At Almonte, May 23rd, Alexander McLean, aged 80 years. 1890, Friday May 30, The Almonte Gazette front page The Late Alexander McLean We deeply regret to have to chronicle the death of one of Almonte's oldest and most esteemed citizens, in the person of Mr Alexander McLean. The fatal termination came last Friday, after an illness of a few months. Deceased was born in Glasgow, Scotland, April 4th, 1810, and therefore 80 years of age at death. Mr McLean came to Canada when 10 years of age, and started lumbering for himself when twenty-four. Later he went into the milling business here, which he carried on for seventeen years. He never sought a public position, but was induced to accept a councillorship for one year. He was a quiet, unostentatious citizen, but his sterling character made for him a very large circle of friends throughout the district, of all of whom the news of his demise will bring sincere sorrow. In 1848 he married Miss K. Lawson, by whom he had a large family. The funeral, which took place on Sunday afternoon, to the eighth line cemetery, was a splendid testimony to the worth of the deceased, the cortege being the largest seen here for a long time, and composed of all classes of the community.
